I think it is funny how people keep saying this. Our offense was just as bad as our defense. We need lots of help on either side of the ball. Saying we don't need a QB because we have Fitz is like saying we don't need a DE because we have Kelsay or we don't need a LB because we have Ayodele. The entire roster is in need of upgrade. If Chan identifies a QB that he thinks will be a difference maker, that's fine with me.

I'm glad we have Merriman and I am glad he's trying, but I really don't expect him to have a big impact on bringing in any FA's.

If they take a QB at 3, it better be Newton.
-
I think they will take Newton. But I'd be fine with Peterson or a DL or LB. Taking a WR would be idiotic.

LOCKOUT WILL MEAN NO TRADING OF DRAFT CHOICES
Maddog69 replied to Maddog69's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
good. The draft without any trades would be a lot less interesting. Do you know if they can trade this years picks for next years picks? -
I think it means that if there's not a QB at NO. 3 they like, they're not going to reach

LOCKOUT WILL MEAN NO TRADING OF DRAFT CHOICES
Maddog69 replied to Maddog69's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Adam Brandt from National Football Post said on Twitter in reply to a question about teams trading draft picks: "If lockout, no signing or trading, but there will be a draft" That's the first time I've seen this years picks mentioned. -
If there is a lockout that is not resolved prior to the draft, teams will not be allowed to trade players or draft choices. So, anybody hoping the Bills trade down should be praying for the labor situation to be resolved prior to draft day

So much for the NEED to have a "franchise QB"...

But, as you point out, it works both ways. With a better QB (and thus better overall offense) we would score more points, taking pressure of the defense and forcing the opposing offense to have to score more points. This would force the opposing offense to pass more, thus helping our Rush defense to look better on paper and also providing more chances for INTs. As you say, no unit on the team works in a vacuum. We should be trying to find elite talent on either side of the ball. -
Good article by Gaughn on Buddy Nix Today

I don't understand this logic. We need an elite QB. If NFL talent evaluators think Cam is an elite prospect then he should be our pick at 3. Why would it be good to pass on an elite QB prospect and let someone else have him just so we could get a lesser talent and another lower pick? -
The Difference Between Ben Roethlisberger & Cam Newton
Maddog69 replied to BiggieScooby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. If he plays well, the fans will love him. If not, he will be run out of town like all of the other failed attempts to replace Jim Kelly. I would be one of the first fans in the stands with a Newton jersey if he is the choice. -
To me Coach Lovie Smith showed a lot of class.

You do realize Collins was injured and is having surgery? That's why he left the game when he did. -
That's the first thing I thought of too.

The Giants already had good players at other positions and had the luxury of drafting for depth. They also drafted Eli Manning when they had a top 5 pick, I would be happy to follow their lead. Take a QB at #3 and then load up on DL

We have a probowl DT in Kyle Williams and we have Troup who was a 2nd rounder last year. If we take another DT this year in the top few rounds I will not be happy. We need QB, LB, DE, OT

LOL. Tell that to Bruce Smith.

You can find stats to say whatever you want. How about these 2010 playoffs: 60.7% completion rating, 3TD, 1 INT, 91.7 rating and 2 wins so far. 2009 playoffs: 60.2% completion rating, 4td, 2 INT, 92.7 rating and 3 wins to only 1 loss (AS A ROOKIE) I'd say that is pretty good, unless you just have it in your head to hate the kid. Watch the games. He is still young and learning. He makes mistakes, but he makes some excellent plays when they are needed. I hate the Jets, but I've got nothing but good things to say about Sanchez. -

One was an amazing catch by Holmes on a perfectly thrown ball. The other two were well placed throws that put his playmakers in a position to make plays. You have to give credit where credit is due. Sanchez is developing into a very good QB and I would be thrilled if he were QB of the Bills. Don't discount the good things he has done to make you argument against him stronger. He is a big part of their offense. He is not great yet, but he's getting there and he comes through in the biggest games. -
Are you rooting for the Jets or the Steelers?

can't they be fixed concurrently or slightly after? or is any new QB drafted going to be automatically doomed for their entire career if the lines are not fixed before that players name is spoken at the draft. -
How about we forget about arguing over the definition of "Franchise" qb and just agree that we need a better QB? Whatever category you put Rodgers in, that's what I want the Bills to have. For me, a "Franchise" QB is a guy who is Hall of Fame quality. It's tough to identify that during the playing career, especiially early on. But over time, you realize it and by the time they are done playing, there is little debate. True "Franchise" QBs don't come around often. I will settle for a very good to elite QB. Right now we have and average/journeyman QB.

It happens. Here is one that I found quickly 2009 - Cleveland trades the 5th pick in RD1 to NYJ for the 17th and a 2nd rounder

Defense and running game are important, but you cannot win consistently without an elite QB and we don't have an elite QB. The Bills will be in position to possibly draft the #1 QB in this years draft class. If Nix decides that one of the QBs in this draft is a potentially elite prospect, that should be the pick. I am not saying that any of these prospects are that guy, but you would think that one of the QBs in this draft class will turn out to be great, we need to find him. Once we have the QB to develop, then you build the OL and the defense. With out the QB, the rest is meaningless. Say all you want about the Jets D, they would not have won that game yesterday without Sanchez outplaying Brady and matching him score for score in the 4th qtr. The Jets "dominating D" couldn't stop a runny nose in the 4th qtr. Same goes with Pittsburgh, their D is good, but Rapelisburger is winning games for them. The #1 most important position on an NFL team who wants to win consistently is an Elite QB and until you have one, you should be trying to get one.
