Which makes him completely undraftable? Yet Kaepernick has "upside" I think the Newton hate is funny and I love how the haters (not necessarily refering to the OP) always say "he's the next Jamarcus Russel" rather than Ryan Leaf, Tim Couch,Joey Harrington, etc.
-
just curious why the OP left Cam Newton off the list. He is on every list of first round graded QBs you find by all of the draft experts. He has unique physical skills and has won 2 national chanpionships and started every game over the last 2 seasons. I would be interested to hear why you would not even consider him 'worth drafting'

I agree. I wish they'd go back to the white helmet with the charging buffalo

I would be happy if the Bills take Newton at 3. It would be great to trade down and get extra picks and still get Newton. But if he is the pick at 3, I would be thrilled. I really think he has the potential to be a great QB in the NFL. That being said, the QB that I think the Bills end up taking is Ponder. After reading and hearing about his connections to Gailey and Modkins and his very strong performance in the Sr Bowl, I am really starting to think he is the target for the Bills 2nd rd pick. Fortify the defensive front 7 in Rd1 and land Ponder in Rd2. Not bad.

I am opposed to bringing back Whitner under almost any scenario.
-
Based on what? I have no idea what he'll score and I think it's is interesting that you would just assume he will do poorly.

If you include his National Championship season last year in Junior college, Newton would have more than 26 college stsrts.

With the 3rd Pick in the 2011 NFL Draft

I am hoping for Newton as well. I thing he has the potential to be amazing and I would be thrilled if the Bills took him. -
would love to see any or all of them signed by the Bills
-
I know I am in the minority, but I want Newton in Rd1. I like the rest of your draft. I really don't think the Bills will go D line in Rd1, they drafted Troup and Carrington last year, and as Marv Levy always used to say "the best Rookies are last year's Rookies"

Golisano "interested" to keep the Bills in Buffalo
Maddog69 replied to EndZoneCrew's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Same here, I don't need details. I would just like to hear that a plan is in place to secure long term, stable ownership of the Bills and secure their future in Buffalo for the next several decades. I think by doing this, he would immediately receive positive publicity and would get more benefit of the doubt from the fans. I think their would be an increase in ticket sales as well. But, to be honest, I think Ralph enjoys the villain persona. -
Golisano "interested" to keep the Bills in Buffalo

Maybe I read it incorrectly, but when he was talking about Ralph and he made reference to Ralph being smart and also talked about Mr Wegman having a succession plan to avoid the death tax, Tom seemed to insinuate that Ralph has a succession plan in place. I got the impression that Tom was basically saying that the future of the Bills is already decided. He said something about "the Bills might never be for sale" or something like that. I have no factual basis for this, but it sounded to me like Tom didn't want to step on Ralph's toes but he was saying that Ralph already has a plan in place and that is why he has never been willing to talk to people who want to buy the team. -
Wow. What a small world. That's funny.

Nice. I don't know anything at all about Gabbert, so I cannot express an opinion. Curious, why were you on the phone with his grandfather?

Didn't mean to get into a pi$$ing match with you. I apologize. I respectly disagree with you, though. 1.) Elite QBs do in fact make it to pick 3 or later all the time. (Rivers, Roethlisberger, Rodgers, Marino, Kelly, Brees, just to ones that came to mind quickly) 2.) You have a much higher opinion of Fitz than I do. He is, in my opinion, not very good. The stats this year and over his career bear that out. He is much better than what we've had, so by comparison he looks great. But he is average or below. With horrible accuracy. We need to find a QB 3.) With regard to whatever QB we draft being 3 yrs behind Fitz. I see your point, put I think you overstate it. On one hand, the reason I want to draft a QB this year is because it will take a year or two before he is ready to really play full time and be near his peak. I want to have that guy on the roster developing this year while we build all of the other key components (OL, dominating D, weapons on O, etc). I don't want to get all of the pieces in place only to realize we don't have a QB. On the other hand, most of the highly drafted QBs are playing much sooner these days, so its possible that by late year 1 or early year 2, the drafted QB will be the starter. 4.) Any draft pick is a risk. There is just was much risk of Cam Newton being a bust as there is for Fairley or whomever else you look at. I am hoping the Bills come out of this draft with their QB of the future. I personally hope that Newton survives all of the upcoming scrutiny and becomes that guy. I have a feeling he could be a special player in the NFL (his character concerns also give me heartburn). But I will be very excited if Nix/Gailey decide Newton or Gabbert are the guy at #3 or if they take Ponder or one of the other guys later in Rd1 or early 2. Anything beyond that is a low risk gamble like we took on Levi Brown. I really wanted them to grab Colt McCoy last year. I just want a young QB to give us some hope. Maybe he'll follow in the footsteps of Jim Kelly and help rebuild our team to prominance or maybe he'll follow in the footsteps of Rob Johnson, Drew Bledsoe or JP Losman and be a player who we wasted a 1st round pick on that did not live up to expectations. I just don't see why so many people on this board go so far out of there way to say that any QB in this draft sucks and will not be any good. None of us can see the future.
-
It was in response to Darin who said that none of these QBs won a Big game. No player ever wins a game by himself, it is a team sport. That's obvious.
-
So many things wrong with your post: 1.) How do you know there are no elite QBs in this draft? 2.) You also need a real QB in this league to win consistently. 3.) How do you know that every QB in this draft will be the next Akili Smith? Maybe one of them can be the next Jim Kelly, Manning, Elway, etc. 4.) How do you know that whatever defensive player we draft will not be the next Erik Flowers, Aaron Maybin or John McCargo. The simple answer is; You have no idea. So if you'd like to express an opinion, great. But spare me the attitude. Thanks. and last time I checked, Newton just won the National Championship and the Heisman and he won the JUCO National Chanpionship the year before. Maybe that will translate to the NFL, maybe not. But you cannot say he has never won a big game.
-
Agreed. Marecic is a player. There's always room on the roster for this kid.
-
That would make sense if we already had an elite QB. But since we don't, why would we trade out of a position where we could take an elite QB prospect only to allow someone else to take him?
-
Relax, dude. I never said he was any good. Just made an observation. Although the throw Boller made from his knee was impressive. And the QB you describe sounds like Trent. No Thanks. I want a guy with some skill. I want a playmaker. SOmeone who can make something out of nothing and who has some attitude. I don't a guy who is OK with losing.
-
I disagree with you on Newton. I watched 4-5 of his games this year and the one thing that I liked was that he always seemed to be looking downfield for an open receiver while he was scrambling from the pocket and only once he found no open receivers would he run. He did not seem to me like a run first QB.
-
Kaepernick did OK in the game. The one thing that stuck out for me was the velocity he puts on the ball. He has a quick release and the ball moves like a dart.
-
What do you base this on? Most of experts say that this is one of the deepest QB classes in years. There are any clearly elite prospects like Bradford last year, but the class is loaded with talent.
-
What did he do that was so great? He was the 22nd rated QB for Passer rating He was the 27th rated QB for completion percentage He has 23 TD along with 15INTs and 5 funbles lost The Bills had terrible scoring offense. He is the definition of journeyman. I'm not saying he's terrible, but I would not say his play has convinced me the Bills don't need a viable NFL starting QB as soon as possible.
