The Cowboys, Overexposed? Maybe. Overrated? .... You Decide
Paup 1995MVP replied to corta765's topic in The Stadium Wall
Great summary of the Blue team sinking in the swamps of New Jersey. When your owner, GM and coach think you can replace Saquon Barkley with Devin Singletary, and have guys like Jermaine Eluminore blocking, thats a big problem. Yes their O line seems like they have been as bad as any in the league for the past decade easily. Do they even have an O line coach? LOL Just a joke of a franchise at this point. Wellington Mara must be cussing his son from the grave with all his might. I hope they give Jameis Winston a chance to play. Way more exciting and better than Russell Wilson. And then should be interesting to see what happens with Jaxson Dart. Maybe they can bring back Eli if none of these guys work out. LOL -
I hope that all the additions on the D lIne light a fire under Epenesa. He has shown bursts of real good play over his 5 years with the team. But certainly not on a regular basis. (I just looked up his career stats and he has 21.5 sacks over 5 seasons. And only 2.5 in his first two years. That's a real weak start to his career) But the guy doesn't suck, and maybe playing with a big time DE like Bosa will help him hone his craft more, to the point that he becomes a big time contributor for us on a consistent basis week in and week out. I am sure the Bills would love that. As for Solomon, he should get his chance to show improvement in training camp and the preseason. And if he is making plays, he should have a decent chance to make the 53 man roster, and hopefully get some meaningful snaps. But with all the changes to the D Line this offseason, its anybody's guess where Solomon projects on this years team.

We want Tre on the team if he is playing well and deserves to be on the team. If he is slow and washed, bye bye. And good luck with your life after football. As Billy Beane (Brad Pitt) said in Moneyball. There comes a time when everybody has to retire. Time is undefeated. If Jamarcus Ingram is better than Tre, than I want Jamarcus Ingram on the 53. Same with Dorian Strong. Same with Dane Jackson. We all have our favorite players. But at the end of the day, we all just want the Bills to win. Doesn't matter who is wearing our uniforms. Just win baby.

No surprise about Spector not practicing. Maybe we get rid of him before training camp. Give Edufushio Shaq Thompson and Buffalo Joe the reps to fight it out for the 4th and 5th LB's on the final roster. How about taking Spector's body and freezing it like Ted Williams head, so he can heal and be ready for the season? LOL We can call him Baylon "Cryo" Spector.

Very true. The Bills hold all the cards here. (I like your point B) I am sure they would like to sign him to a reasonable extension. But if Cook wants huge RB money he will have to wait until his contract is up. Its not like he had an all time season. He had some nice numbers (including an inflated amount of TD's scored from inside the 5 yard line.) He is scheduled to make 5 + mill this year. Not chump change for a guy that plays only about half the teams offensive snaps. The offseason is so long, there is just not much to talk about. Especially for a team that has been real good for a long time now. So the Cook talk gets extra play. And the ironic thing is that Cook seems like a real quiet guy. Are there any other noteworthy stories right now in the NFL? I guess Aaron Rodgers to the Steelers. LOL

We need to do that some times. Can't just send Josh plowing into the line. The Chiefs figured that play out real quick in the AFCCG. Running Gilliam or Ty Johnson through a crease off the center or guard once in a while would be nice change of pace in short yardage. I agree. And that's kind of weird with the QB we have. And we haven't exactly put a lot of draft capital into improving our WR group. That being said, I am excited about Moore and Palmer. I think they can both be good WR's with Josh throwing them the ball. And you would think Coleman would improve a good bit from his rookie season. Add in the dynamic Shakir, and a hopefully healthy Samuel and Kincaid, and you have a pretty good group of pass catchers..
-
I agree about our short yardage deficiencies against KC. It was awful. We kept on running the same play over and over. With the same poor results. Brady should have been called out big time for the lack of any creativity in the short yardage play calling. To get to and win a Super Bowl you need excellent coaching in all 3 phases of the game. We came up short both literally and figuratively in that department against KC. Hopefully the play calling is better in the big moments this coming season. And also we improve on special teams with a new coach.

Great analysis. We have a top 2 QB in the league. An all timer. And we are going to to pay our RB top 5 money? That makes no sense. We should be all in w the passing game. Otherwise, why pay Josh $300+ million? if the offense is going to be run centric, then we certainly have the wrong coaching staff running things. And speaking of which, I think Joe Brady still has a lot to prove in his play calling, scheme etc. Our short yardage play calls against KC in the Championship were absolutely terrible. 👎👎

Should be a fun game to watch, if for nothing else then the 2 QB’s switching teams. I think Fields will have trouble w the Steelers defense. Throw for about 130 yards and be running for his life most of the game. I see a low scoring game w the Steelers coming out on top 17-13. Bet the under.

Generational Wealth? Wth are you all talking about? This guy is in his mid 20's. Why on earth should he support the rest of his family anyways? Unless they are disabled, they should all get off their asses and go work for a living. He wants to help his Mom out some, that's nice. But I bet she would probably be early to mid 50's at this point at most. She can work too. Its not his families money. Its James Cook's money. I have a successful business which I have run for 30 years. I sure as hell was not supporting my parents or brothers from it. My brothers were both successful in their fields. As were my parents. I helped my mom some when she had a tax problem when getting divorced years ago. But other than that, we all took care of our own selves as adults. Like I am sure most of you on here do. Now with when it comes to our kids, yes we all need to take care of our own. And making a good living in whatever you do helps with that. But I don't think Brandon Beane cares about James Cook's generational wealth one way or another. His one responsibility is putting a competitive team on the field every single year.

Matt Breida-There’s a name from the past. That’s a real solid analysis. Maybe he goes to $10 mill per year on Cook max? But definitely not above that. if that’s the range that Beane values Cook at, it will be interesting if Cook shows up for training camp. He will probably have to play out the final year of his contract and then all bets are off.
-
Are the Steelers just going to hand Rodgers the starting job? Shouldn’t there be a QB competition between him and Rudolph?
-
I didn’t say it was Beane’s fault that Von got hurt. (And Tre White was injured the year before on Thanksgiving 2021 in NO) But after his injury he had nothing left. i don’t like the contract Beane gave an aging player. It was a major overpay. And it came back to bite us. But Von is gone. And let’s hope the 3 D lineman we drafted set our D line up for success for years to come.
-
You you really don’t mean all that do you? Different positions in the NFL get paid on different scales. The RB position is paid much lower relative to the DE position. James Cook is a good player. But he ran for barely 1000 yards. And many of his TD’s were inside the 5 yard line. Johnson and Davis could have put up similar numbers if they got the ball as much. The O line is why our run game is so strong. James Cook is a nice RB. And the Bills like him. But he is not going to get paid by us like he is Thurman Thomas reincarnated. Just not going to happen under this regime.
-
Von was a non factor ever since he blew his knee out against the Lions in 2022. He did nothing in 2023 and next to nothing in 2024. If he really had six sacks last year, they were very inconsequential. The fact that we are even talking about him seems awfully silly. Maybe consider bringing back Jerry Hughes too then. LOL
-
This could be the year he hits the proverbial wall. But I can’t see him falling off too much. What about the Ravens O line? Did they make changes there this offseason? Its not just the RB. It’s the O line and the offensive scheme as well. I think Beane realizes that with the Bills. And is not going to break the bank for James Cook.
-
Henry is a unicorn. He is still top 3 in the NFL even at age 30. He is getting what he deserves. James Cook is a nice RB. But he isn’t changing the landscape of the NFL. I think the Bills may offer $35 mill for 3 years tops. And that’s a very fair contract for him. If he won’t take that, he may not play for the Bills again. And we won’t miss him. Because there are a lot of guys who would run very well behind our O line. And if we have to become a more passing centric team w/o Cook we will be that.

PFF's top 32 TE's (Dalton Kincaid at 10!!!!!)

He dropped the most important pass of the season. That was awful. Surprised more wasn’t made about that over the offseason. -

Cowboys got smoked at home last year week 2 by a bad Saints team. Two years ago in the playoffs they were destroyed by the Packers in Dallas. The Bills took them to the woodshed two years ago in Buffalo. They are not a ***** show. But not a top 10 team. And certainly not a top 10 organization. They let Connor McGovern walk. Not smart. -
I live in Atlanta too. And the Falcons are definitely not overhyped to say the least. I do like them more then the Braves though. Pitts' play has been underwhelming to say the least. Guy doesn't play nearly as fast as his 40 time. Is not twitchy in the slightest. I also think the Falcons coaching has been pretty lousy since he came in the league. Arthur Smith just wanted to run the ball. And is no passing guru. And Raheem Morris is marginal also. Maybe a change of scenery is what the guy needs to realize his potential. But I would not hold my breath. Seems like a Cowboys move to overtrade for a guy like Pitts. LOL

I understand where you are coming from with your ideas. But disagree somewhat. Edmunds was certainly overdrafted. And is now overpaid. He is just not a very good NFL football player. I would not say he is Baylon Spector. But he certainly is not a difference maker. And glad we did not give him another contract. Rousseau is a solid player. His length helps in knocking down passes at the line of scrimmage. He needs to be good to very good more often. He is never going to be great, because he does not have great explosive athletic traits. I understand what the going rate is for good DE's. And am glad we resigned Rousseau. I am glad we resigned Bernard. I think when healthy he is an excellent LB. Too much talk on what a premium position is versus "non premium". You need good players all over your roster. The more good players you have, the better your team should be. If our LB's are lousy, then the defense is lousy. You can't have any weaknesses at a specific position if you can help it. Doesn't matter the position. If your Guards are lousy, then your O line is lousy, even if you have 2 all pros at Tackle and a great Center. Need good players across the roster. Don't need pro bowl guys at every position. But you can't have guys like Kair Elam starting for you. Because they will get exposed.
-
He can disagree all he wants. Wood was a solid player over his years. No disrespect there. But I don’t think he ever had the top end ability that McGovern showed last year. And I think McGovern is just a bigger more imposing player.
-
I have been disappointed in his play on the whole compared to what I was expecting of him coming out of Utah. Really thought he dominated his senior year there. And he has not shown any domination at the NFL level so far. Lets hope he figures out the pro game, and can put some size on him. You would think with an NFL training staff, that they could muscle him up some. Lift a bunch of heavy weights, and eat a ***** ton of food. It doesn't seem that hard.

Interesting thoughts on Bernard. Was very surprised that he wasn't top 32 in the league. He had a great 2023, and an OK 2024. I think he is an above average athlete with great instincts on what is going on around him on the field. Is he Fred Warner? No. But he is certainly light years ahead of Tremaine Edmunds as an NFL LB. Your opinion on Bernard being #5 on who you pay of the guys up for extensions is interesting. I think his 2023 season was much better than any season Rousseau has put together. Rousseau has been consistently above average. But not consistently great by any means. I think Bernard has a higher ceiling as a football player than Rousseau. But overall keeping both is good for the team. Bernard just needs to stay healthy. I wish he would put on an extra 10-12 pounds. LB's should weigh at least mid 230's to take the pounding they get week in and week out.
