Joe Marino's 9 point plan for improvement
Paup 1995MVP replied to D. L. Hot-Flamethrower's topic in The Stadium Wall
No safety should have as poor of tackling ability as Bishop has shown in his short NFL career. Neither Bishop or Rapp should be playing. They stink.. I agree a trade for a safety if someone decent were available would be nice. And we do have Jordan Hancock drafted in the 5th round. Give the kid a chance. He is better with far more upside than what we have seen on the field so far this season. Maybe playing with Poyer, he will learn a lot quickly too. And btw your user name cracks me up. I had one of his baseball cards as a little kid in around 1971. -
Max Hairston to return to practice from IR
Paup 1995MVP replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
The guy is a first round pick with blazing speed. Something most of us have not seen on the field at CB for the Bills since Leodis McKelvin or maybe even Nate Clements. The fact that we are starting Tre White at CB, let alone that he was ever brought back on the roster is a scathing indictment of the organization. Do you watch the other NFL teams? No team has aging veterans (who can't run a lick) starting on their back end. If anything, when they have a bunch of injuries, most teams play a lot of young guys like the Lions and the 49ers did over the past two nights. And both teams did quite well because the players all understand the scheme, which I would assume they keep simple to allow the players' athleticism to take over, and our coached up during the week, and throughout the season. If Hairston is physically ready to play, and his head is in the game, he needs to be on the field. -
Its ridiculous that the team has been built to play as conservatively as possible with one of the most gifted QB's of all time. Does Pegula understand football? Because you would think if he did, he would have fired McBeane several years ago. He really needs to bring in an outside guy as a consultant to look at the entire operation, if things continue South the rest of the year.
-
I agree we need better at the position. Look at Jackson Smith Ingigba last night. An amazing talent. Jamar Chase, Justin Jefferson. Amanra St Brown, Jameson Williams, Mike Evans, etc. etc. But still the guys we brought in have made more plays with other teams before they came to the Bills. But I guess they all had other WR's on their prior teams that were better to take pressure off of them.. So what does that say about Brandon Beane bringing in a bunch of scrub free agents, and a pretty marginal talent in Keon Coleman? You seem pretty knowledgeable about football KJ. Why do we bring in very few players with explosive traits by free agency or the draft? James Cook is an exception. And Deone Walker is looking pretty dam good also. But for the most part a lot of uninspiring guys like Bishop Landon Jackson TJ Sanders Taylor Rapp AJ Epinesa, etc.
-
So we spent free agent money on Palmer Samuel and Moore. Granted Samuel has been injured a bunch, but when he has been on the field, why aren't building our offense around guys we are paying decent money to as free agents? If we are bringing them in, why aren't we using them more down the field? Moore was solid in Cleveland with bad QB's. Palmer was better in LA, than he has been w us. And Samuel has had his moments over the years. A good team knows what their plan is for every player on the roster. We just put guys away in the closet. Its ridiculous. And doesn't Josh have any say in the offense? He is the team. He needs to take charge of the organization. Because he is the organization. If McDermott Beane do not realize this, Pegula needs to kick some ass real quick. And if this continues through the rest of the season. Blow the whole thing up, and start fresh with Josh, Cook, Kincaid and the O line. Keep Deone Walker and Hoecht if he plays well on defense with Hairston Strong and Hancock, and everyone else can be on the trading block if there is value to be had.

Wide Receiver Train Full Speed Ahead- CHOO CHOO!
Paup 1995MVP replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall
The comical thing about "everybody eats" is that noone is really eating. We just throw to Keon when he is constantly blanketed up and down the sideline. How slow is the guy seriously? Is he close to 4.5? Or more 4.6-4.7? He is never open on the sideline. How many throws per game are we sending to Shavers Moore Samuel and Palmer? And how many to Shakir 5+ yards past the LOS? Seriously, these are your WR's who are dressing each week, and we barely throw to any of them. As for TE's, Kincaid got 6 catches against NE. He should have had another 6 targets. And with him out, why did they not try and get Knox or Hawes doing similar things? Or call Latu up from the PS. Instead we just run run run with a generational QB, and that great runner we have isn't even on the field on 3rd or 4th down!! And the results are scoring a total of 34 points in two weeks against 2 middle of the pack teams. This coaching staff is absolutely maddening. Nothing they do makes any sense. Are they really as stupid as they seem to be? I have never met McDermott, Beane or any of the other coaches, or been in meetings with them. (there was no candor talk on Hard Knocks between the coaches about the players, like on most other teams on the show over the years) But do any of you know where their intellect is relative to other NFL coaching staffs. We seem to have regressed to a 1970's based offense, but worse because at least back then teams were throwing deep quite often. -
New coaches added this year - any impact?
Paup 1995MVP replied to Desert Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
As a fan you can get a reset when we have a bye. And really focus on the rest of the NFL. The teams, the players, the schemes. And the biggest takeaways is 1)how lacking we are with speed at WR. Keon would probably not be playing boundary WR on almost any other team. He has no burst or twitch to separate. But we still need to take more shots to the intermediate and deep parts of the field with everyone else. Have to try and use the entire field. Get Kincaid 12-15 targets if you have to. He is are only matchup problem for opposing defenses. He needs to be out Jamar Chase or Jackson Smith Ingigba. And on defense are back 7 are the least athletic, least physical of any team I watched in week 7. Even Benford has no explosive twitch to him. Our best player right now is Shaq Thompson. And he is an 11 year vet who would be a solid back up on most teams, but would not start. This is an epic fail by Beane and McDermott to have so little speed aggressiveness and athleticism on the defense. (And little talent at WR) Everyone is playing pressure D all over the field. Last night all 4 QB’s were under attack. We need to really change things up. Hopefully w Hairston Hoecht and Ogunjobi we can do that more. But the league has really evolved on defense over the past few years. And we are left behind right now. Our roster needs a major makeover at WR, LB and secondary. Really troubling. -
Max Hairston to return to practice from IR
Paup 1995MVP replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
Good god the guy is a first round pick w lightning speed. Put him on the field, sign a vet who still can play, and get rid of Tre. Just him being on the team at this point is bringing the entire team down. -
Fields is afraid to throw the football. You can’t play QB at any level that way. Shane Buechele is better. Maybe we can trade him to the Jets for one of their defensive players. On that note is their a worse back 7 talent wise in the NFL then what we have? Seriously. Thank you McBeane for putting this trash unit together. How can you talk Super Bowl with this group on defense? UGH!!

Who's the Emotional Leader on the Bills ??
Paup 1995MVP replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall
What do you think the perception of the team is around the NFL? That they are a one man group that has poor coaching and a marginal roster? I watched a bunch of NFL yesterday. And we have our work cut out for us if we want to be serious Super Bowl contenders. The Colts look real good on offense. As do the Chiefs. And the Patriots are not going away. And are not afraid of us in the slightest. We need to find some fire on defense too. The 49ers laid the wood to the Falcons from the 2nd qtr on. And made Penix London and Robinson look very ordinary. And physically bullied them w their run game. The Bills should have done that with our running game all night long with some play action passing mixed in. It would have certainly taken the jet off of Josh. Hopefully the coaching staff woke up after being embarrassed the past couple weeks. And not having played reasonably well since the Jets game. -
Who's the Emotional Leader on the Bills ??
Paup 1995MVP replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall
That would be a great result. i agree about the defense in the second half last Monday night. They played better. But the offense looked completely out of sync after the Davis TD made it 21-14. And brought absolutely nothing the rest of the game. I don’t know what goes on behind closed doors. But I would really like to see Josh take charge of the offense in a much more leadership type role. He needs to be the Alpha leader on the field. And on the sidelines. That was not there against the Falcons in the slightest. He seems very melancholy and subdued. For god’s sake look at Mack Jones w the 49ers or Jackson Dart with the Giants, or Baker with the Bucs. They are all fired up and excited. Somebody needs to shake him out of his malaise. We need an igniter on the team. It sure isn’t coming from McDermott. -
Chauncey Gardner-Johnson to the Ravens
Paup 1995MVP replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall
I can live with that. We aren’t getting any production out of Rapp. And we all can see he has no upside. I thought he would be better, the way he started out w the Rams. Maybe their scheme was more conducive to success on the back end. -
Who's the Emotional Leader on the Bills ??
Paup 1995MVP replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree 100. I said that after the Pats game. Diggs was all pumped up on the sideline getting everyone fired up. Haven’t seen that from anyone on the Bills. Josh comes off the field and takes a seat on the bench by himself or next to Trubisky. He seems sullen and seems to have isolated himself from his teammates. He used to be the emotional leader of the team. I have not seen that in some time. The team really seems emotionless. I think they have tuned McDermott out. This is year 9. I don’t think the players get anything from McDermott at this point. They know his schemes are bland and not creative. And probably don’t expect to be any better than they have been because they know they get no advantage from our coaching staff. And I think he plays favorites with marginal veterans over more talented young players. And the players have to see that. I believe a major housecleaning is in order if rhe same disinterested play continues through the season. I think they the league is passing the Bills by. And if they don’t adapt they are going to take a big step back.- 60 replies

Where the team stands now at 4-2 and having played pretty mediocre football on the whole for most of the season after almost making the Super Bowl last season is an organizational failure. The team has regressed since the end of last season. And that should not have happened. We obviously needed some additions at WR, and did nothing other than draft a kid in the 7th round as an afterthought. That is stupid on Beane’s part. We needed help on defense and drafted 6 guys. Unfortunately 3 are injured, one has not been given a chance, 1 looks awful and 1 has been a beast. We signed 3 D lineman in free agency, and 1 has looked good, and 2 have been suspended (hopefully they will give the team some juice starting this coming week) My biggest problem besides the lack of talent at WR is that we brought in trash in the secondary besides our rookies. Tre and Dane are not NFL players any longer. And Rapp is a back up period as is Bishop. Either the team has no clue on what starting NFL talent looks like, or they are blindly loyal to guys who were good at one time. But can’t run any longer. Give Hancock a chance. And play Poyer until you can find someone in a trade. The back end is killing us. Also we continue to go with small LB’s who can’t defend the pass and get run over against the run. That will not when you a Super Bowl. The organization really needs to be doing a lot of self evaluating. We will see come next Sunday. And the Panthers are a solid team. We had best be ready.

Chauncey Gardner-Johnson to the Ravens
Paup 1995MVP replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Bills have their future and present player on the roster to start at safety. And I have been screaming about it since training camp started. And that is Jordan Hancock.. The guy showed he can play in the preseason.. His upside is much better than anyone the Bills have had since Poyer and Hyde in their prime. He needs to start ahead of Bishop. And have Poyer start ahead of Rapp. Could someone define for me what the "Bills Culture" even is? I know CJ Gardner Johnson has gone through many teams. And he really isn't that good watching his game. But is the narrative that there are certain types of players we shy away from for reasons that have nothing to do with their on field play? -
My god, do you hear that? It’s Gabe Davis’ music!
Paup 1995MVP replied to FireChans's topic in The Stadium Wall
Our entire receiving group other than Shakir are giving us pretty much nothing. We barely throw to any of them, except Keon on the sideline when he is blanketed. We design almost nothing down the field for our WR's. We hit two nice passes to Palmer and then he was injured. We have barely used Moore. Samuel only dressed for two games, and we did not target him once down the field. Keon can not catch on the boundary. Get him running in the middle of the field. As for Shavers, figure out what he is good at, and give him some targets. As for Shakir, get him the ball all over the field, not just within 3 yards in front or behind the LOS. Sure our WR's are not game breaker burner types. But my goodness we are scheming almost nothing down the field. Elijah Moore was above average in his career before coming to Buffalo. Get him the frikin ball down the field some!! The same with Samuel!! Our passing scheme is absolutely absurdly terrible!! And this is with probably the best QB in the league. Get rid of Joe Brady if he can not orchestrate an NFL passing game. And if McDermott does not want him to. Get rid of McDermott too. So if you want to dress Gabe, make sure we throw him the ball. Running is fine. But you had better be able to make plays in the passing game, otherwise you are not winning anything. This is not the Chicago Bears of 1985. And even they threw deep to Willie Gault and Dennis McKinnon a decent amount. -
Seriously, what has happened to Benford? He looks dazed and confused every week. Taron is just physically overmatched with his lack of size. Although I thought he made a nice breakup on the 4th and short throw over the middle. And how come are safeties are showing no improvement? They look horrible. I have been saying this all year. Get Hancock on the field. He will be a starter going forward! The guy has instincts and talent. He won't get better sitting on the bench. And only playing special teams. Bishop has no instincts for the position, and I don't think he has a lot of talent either. And Rapp has no athleticism period. Start Hancock and Poyer if you have to against the Panthers. It has to be better than Bishop and Rapp. That being said, regarding the original post on this thread. Tre pretty much sucks at this point. And should not be on the field.
-
I love Walker's play. He has been good since he stepped on the field for us in the preseason. He is a huge man who has really nimble feet that allow him to get into the backfield and use his power. A great pick in the 4th round. Heck he is playing like a 1st or 2nd round pick. And will only get better, if he can stay injury free. Oliver has played with a lot of juice the two games he has played. He just needs to stay on the field. Agree about the LB's and DB's. Both units have been lousy. Except for Shaq Thompson who has made some plays. We need Hancock to get some reps on the back end. Our safeties have been terrible.
-
I was at the game. Atlanta had guys open all over the field. Our DB's have forgotten how to cover, or have no idea where they are supposed to be. Bishop and Rapp and Tre are bad and Benford is regressing. Penix was meh tonite. I told my step son who is a Falcons fan, that I would give him a C+ He missed open receivers, plays with not a lot of confidence and makes questionable decisions with the ball. A good QB was putting up 400 yards tonite. We are that bad on the back end against the pass. But we still had a chance to win. Unfortunately, the offense had less than nothing after the TD to Ray Davis. This is a football team heading in a bad direction. These next two weeks are very telling. We play an improving Panthers team, and a once again very very good Chiefs team coming out of the bye. 4-4 and its time to clean house of the McBeane stench that has permeated into this once very proud and ascending franchise. Hopefully there is a big time awakening this week and next from top to bottom in the entire organization. The team tonite was embarrassing to watch. And that should never happen.
-
Seriously, is there any coaching even being done on defense?? Its a ***** show. Maybe the players hate McDermott and have quit on him.

Roster Support over the past three years (Beane)
Paup 1995MVP replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
Samuel is ALWAYS injured. So is Bernard. So is Milano. So is Daquan Jones.. So is Taron Johnson. Kincaid has his best game as a Bill. And now he was out tonite. We are on our 3rd punter. Our second kicker (one good thing so far from this season.) Now Palmer is injured. Why was Benford out for parts of tonite's game? Bishop has missed most of the last two training camps. Hairston has been out since training camp. This team is always injured and has been a revolving door of mediocre to marginal players. Amari Cooper came in and broke his wrist. Oliver plays well against the Ravens and hurts his ankle. We don't have good starters at a lot of positions, especially on defense. Let alone have good back ups. We need guys who are tough solid bigger guys who can take some punishment. -
I was at the game tonite. Watching Keon try and run boundary routes is just painful. Even Shavers is better. And he still isn't anything close to being good. Not sure why Keon runs nothing breaking towards the post or the middle of the field. He has no idea how to adjust his body, his feet and get his hands up to have any chance of catching anything on the sideline with a DB anywhere near him. Why are we running that nonsense with him? And what did we see in drafting him as a high 2nd round pick. He has no better skills than Shavers, (less speed) and Shavers was an undrafted free agent. Beane McDermott and our assistant coaches are running this franchise into the ground. And why does Bishop look so lost? Didn't he play at Utah, a really solid college program with a real good coach? He comes to the Bills and looks awful. Get Hancock on the field ASAP. The kid started on Ohio State's Nat championship team. My god, look at the WR's he went up against every day in practice. They are all 1st round picks. Its not that hard. Get guys on the field who can run hit and tackle people. That's what football is on defense. Why draft a guy from a program like that if he isn't going to play? (instead we go with Rapp, Poyer, Bishop and Cam Lewis. And if Hamlin wasn't hurt, he would be ahead of Hancock also.) Are we purposely trying to embarrass ourselves? Has Bishop made a big hit coming up on a play once since entering the league? My goodness, what is the team looking at when it scouts players? Landon Jackson had no idea what he was doing when he was playing late in the game. And we took him in the 3rd round. Why? Most of our draft picks suck. And at least half the defense is always injured. And we have nothing at WR. Something has gone very wrong.
-
We have the worst secondary and wide receiver groups in the league. And it is not even close. Our LB's as a group are pretty bad as well. That's on Beane. And the coaching staff. Its the same management team going into its 9th year. Many in the league have caught up to the Bills, and passed them with how they run their teams, and play the game. We look old slow and disinterested. We have wasted so many high picks in the Beane regime. And traded for has beens like Amari Cooper. These next two weeks will be very pivotal for this season. And beyond. You have to wonder how happy Josh is playing for an organization that seems like it has fallen way behind how the game is now being played.
-
Other than the Jets. What offense hasn’t presented problems for us? We can’t stop the run consistently. And there are always large open spaces at all levels of the field for teams to complete uncontested passes against us. it’s seems like the LB’s and DB’s have no idea where to line up a lot of the time. You just don’t see that on most of the defenses in the league. Too much thinking. I think it has really hindered guys like Bishop and Dorian Williams who are good athletes, but are having to think too much instead of just playing the game w speed and intensity.
-
I don’t think we really know completely what kind of a team we have this year relative to the rest of the league just yet. It kind of evolves over the entire season. Tampa looks real good. Baker is on fire. The Panthers are much improved. As our the Pats. We have Josh Allen which is our ace card obviously. James Cook and Kincaid if he can stay healthy. But the team overall looks lethargic, stale and bottom tear on defense. And plays w very little intensity which is a product of its coaching staff. And the lack of emotion of its head coach. It’s great not to panic. And be a leader. But some urgency and forcefulness is needed as well. And the willingness to make changes to our scheme so opposing teams will not have an easy time preparing for us. Isn’t that what coaching is about. If not, just let Josh run around and play street all game. This is 9 years of the same regime. It really looks old and tired. Watching Diggs run up and down the sidelines exulting all his teammates last Sunday night late in the game was something. The Bills are missing that. Emotion and passion do matter.
