This is nothing new. Even those good/great Tampa Ds used to get worn down in the second half because they were undersized. There was always a dramatic difference between their yards per play in the first half and the second half. It's one of the flaws of the scheme. I'm surprised the Bills didn't keep 5DTs. Even if there was a drop off in talent the extra rest the other players got would benefit the DL late in the game.

If McNair stays healthy this year the Ravens will be better than the Eagles.

Don't you know that if we're ranked in the top 8 at the end of the season we go to a BCS bowl game?

Everybody and their grandma knew that the Pats would blitz on that play. I would have preferred a simple screen pass in that instance. It would punish the Pats for their aggression and even if it didn't work there was no chance for a sack or a turnover. I'm all for aggression but with a tie game and at your own 7 yard line you have to play smart, a 7 step drop is not smart.

And with the first pick, the Raiders take....

He might be. -
I'm in the opposite boat. I have no idea what I was thinking when I picked the Bills to win on the road this week. If I could change my pick I'd chalk this one up as another loss. Bad teams find way to lose. I fully expect the Bills to be in a position to win this week and then find a new and interesting way to lose. Hopefully some positives come out of it though.

What do you think the chances are that S Merriman
MDH replied to TDRupp's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd say it's 0%. If he's using something its HGH as it's undetectable at this point. -
Yeah, they're not bad. The best part is that neither Jaws nor Vermeil feel the need to fill every single silent moment with their jabbering. If they have nothing to add they say nothing instead of saying something idiotic just to fill the space.

Except for the fact that Losman completed a 3rd and 2 play to move the Bills to the Pat's 38 yard line only to have it nullified by Royal's idiotic push in the back. If Royal doesn't have that brain freeze and the Bills can muster just 5 more yards that gives Lindell a shot at a 50 yarder for the lead. The Bills had lots of opportunities to win this game and many people made mistakes that cost them. Losman is one of them but he's not the only one. Even McGee (who had a great game) made a mistake that ended up giving the Pats 7 when he dropped an INT that was right in his hands on the Pats first scoring drive. The Bills, as a team, simply didn't make the plays they needed to make in order to win.
-
Because the Bills gained a total of 5 more yards after that drive. The play-calling resorted to, essentially, run, run, pass. The coaching staff did a good job overall but the second half play-calling could have been less predictable.

The problem I have with Willis is that he seems to think he's quicker and faster than he really is. Two years ago I loved the guy. He'd put his head down and smash into the line. He's use his monster stiff arm to embarrass defenders. One year removed from his knee injury he didn't think of himself as the speed guy he was in college and he transformed himself into a power back. This year he is definitely faster and more agile but not nearly fast enough to play the type of game he seems insistent on playing. Go watch LT tonight. The guy is as shifty as it gets but he STILL puts his head down and gets tough yards. I'm not blaming Willis for the 4th and 1 miss (as Fowler got blown up) but over the past two years I've grown tired of McGahee's tippy toe dance act in the backfield.

How can the #1 phrase be anything but "the refs screwed us!" Bills fans have been saying this after just about every loss for years.
-
It means a guy that's not small (small guys are usually the fast ones) and can go over the middle and not be afraid of getting tattooed by a LB or safety. Big, tall WRs are much easier targer than smurfs. There are a lot of guys who can catch the ball who get alligator arms when there's the threat of being hit. Sure there are a few fast WRs in the league that can also make their living over the middle but most don't really want to. The Bills have nobody on the team that can consistently make catches over the middle except Evans but it's a waste of his talent to bring him down for short gains over the middle on a regular basis.
-
Yeah, as impressed as I was with Shelton's play two years ago the guy just continues his backslide. I'd like to see the Bills go with more 3WR sets and get Shelton off the field. It's not like he's doing anything in the backfield anyway.
-
This might sound idiotic to some but if Reed had amazing hands he'd be a clone of Hines Ward. Both are fantastic blockers in the run game, both know how to find a weakness in the D and get open on a regular basis but only one actually makes the catch on a consistent basis when the ball is thrown his way. If Reed could get his head out of his as$ and focus for an entire game the guy would be a player.

We lost today....why dont I feel

Losman attempted exactly three passes after the first drive of the second half. How exactly are you blaming him for blowing a lead? The coaching staff resorted to run-run-pass on two of the last three series. They shut down the offense and Losman only had ONE attempt that wasn't on third and long. But yeah, he is somehow to blame. Not many QBs could succeed doing that. The coaching staff did a great job of mixing up the playcalling in the first half and then went into ultra conservative mode after the missed 4th and 1 play. And you're really going to blame Losman for the safety? He dropped back, planted his foot and was hit from behind. Yeah, that's his fault. The guy completed 65% of his passes for 7.1 ypa. He wasn't perfect when it came to running the offense but you know what, he's not expected to be. Young QBs make the mistakes you listed because their head is swimming with all kinds of other info. Once he becomes more confortable with the system these types of mistakes will become fewer and fewer. -
They need to turn him into a drop back passer. Mularkey and Co. told him to run around and it made Losman look uncomfortable in the pocket. Losman needs to be comfortable in the pocket to succeed in this league. I have no problems with them not designing plays for him to run. Scrambling will come about in the natural flow of the game.

Going for it on 4th down was like admitting
MDH replied to Bob in STL's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I actually didn't assume that which you'd know if you had read my post. -
It could have still been a first down had the penalty occurred after Price was 10 yards past the first down marker. The ball is moved back 10 yards from the spot of the foul. If that puts it past the first down marker it's a first down. This foul occurred 8 yards past the first down marker, hence it was 3rd and 2 on the next play.

One flaw in your argument is that you're automatically assuming that the Bills score a TD if they convert. There's a pretty good chance that they don't get in from the 7 if they pick up the 1st down. If it was 4th and goal from the 1 I would be inclined to go for it but 4th and 1 from the 8 doesn't put points on the board if you convert. The Bills might have ended up with a FG attempt anyway. And yes, I realize that a FG attempt doesn't guarantee points there either but the odds of missing a FG that short are miniscule. I'm not going to blast the staff for going for it as I was only slightly leaning towards the FG at the time but in retrospect it was obviously the wrong call as the entire game turned on that one play. Of course hindsight is 20/20. -

How do you know that? How exactly can the game play out the exact same way if the Bills kick those points? Nothing that happens after that gets repeated if the Bills kick that FG, it's not like you can just add those points to the final score and say, "we would win 20-19". -
Actually, I just took another look at it. One Bills gets knocked back into Moorman but there is also a Patriot player from the other side that lands on him as well. It should have at least been running into the kicker (which wouldn't have changed much as it wouldn't have given the Bills a first down).
-
I only saw one of them clearly. On that one the Pats player isn't the one who struck Moorman, it was a Bills player that got pushed back into (and onto) him. I'm pretty sure that's why the flag wasn't thrown.
