  1. Random chance within the game. For instance, Favre's hand coming down on a lineman's helmet when he throws the ball which breaks a finger in his throwing hand. A 350+ lineman falling on Favre's knee and tearing a ligament. Things that are out of Favre's control which "toughness" can not protect against. Any QB who suffers injuries such as these has no control over them and it's just random chance that gets them injured.
  2. No one can question Favre's toughness, but him staying healthy his entire career has more to do with chance than it does with his toughness.
  3. Every CB in the league gets burned and every CB in the league will be burned again. It's the nature of the position. What we need to see out of him is consistency and that's just not going to happen his rookie season (and it won't happen for Corner either if he plays more.)
  4. No QB could look good in Fairchild's "system." The move that helped the Bills the most this offseason was Fairchild landing a HC job.
  5. I'm sure it has to do with policing the unruly fans in the parking lot. Teams have enough trouble with the drunks in the stands, I'm sure they don't want to have to deal with the drunks in the parking lots who don't even have a ticket. If people acted like adults instead of idiots while drinking I’m guessing this move wouldn’t be necessary by the Bears. I wouldn’t be surprised if other teams headed in this direction soon.
  6. I keep seeing this said but I just don't see it happening. If Peters is looking for a 5-6 year deal worth $10 mil per season he's prob not concerned about restricted free agency or the pension. The increase he'll see in this year's pay alone would be way more than anything he'll ever see out of missing a year of pension. And the length of the contract he'll sign will put him well over the years needed to reach FA. Perhaps I'm missing something but why would these things get Peters into camp today? Just check out Steven Jackson - he didn't show for his date needed to accrue these things (which was Aug. 4th for him I believe.)
  7. Let's take it a step farther. Kelsey tears his Achilles heal next week in practice and is out of the season. He tries to come back next summer but re-injures himself. How long to the Bills "'honor his contract" and keep paying him on the before they simply cut him. Or Schobel has 1 sack this season and is totally ineffective. How long to the Bills "honor his contract" before they simply cut him? It’s funny to me how fans never talk about “honoring the contract” when players who they feel are overpaid get cut. I guess they think it's only a one way street. As for your question about when it ends - it doesn't. Teams will continue to cut players they don't want to pay and players will continue to demand more money when they outperform their current deal. It's just the way it is.
  8. The only ones acting like babies are the posters here who whine incessantly because Peters isn't doing what they want. “That Peters is STUPID, he doesn’t do what I want him to do!!!” Peters is just sitting at home playing the waiting game like his agent has suggested he do. He’s not whining, complaining or taking his case to the media. Yeah, what a baby. And as the other poster said, it sets no president other than if you're one of the best players in the league at one of the most important positions then the Bills will pay you what you deserve. I prefer that president to the one the Bills currently have of paying average players above average money.
  9. Not only did he not "only make the Pro Bowl as an alternate" (meaning someone had to pull out for him to get in) but he was a starter (along with Matt Light). Obviously he didn't play (as he was hurt) but that doesn't make him an alternate.
  10. I feel for the Packer fans. They've been on a roller coaster ride the past month only to have their hearts ripped out at the last minute. Yesterday the news was that there would be an open competition and today that Favre is a goner. As a Bills fan I know all about thinking things are going to go my way only to get B word slapped at the last minute – it’s not a pleasant feeling. Sucks to be a Packer fan today.
  11. It's obvious you didn't watch any skins games last year. Collins was solid - not fantastic, but very solid for them. They certainly didn't get there in spite of him.
  12. From what I read it sounded like it might have been a cheap shot. The other players were warned by the coaching staff not to retaliate against Smith and I can't imagine they'd be given that warning if Smith clocked the guy in a straight up fight. This is the second time Smith has punched a teammate, he did it a few years ago as well. Sounds like a great teammate...
  13. Why are you a chump? If he gets drafted by the Bills that same injury doesn't occur and he's likely not failing physicals to start the season.
  14. For once, Bill is right here. If a player fails to live up to expectations the team cuts him and doesn't "honor the contract" yet if a player uses the only thing they have to force a negotiation (their presence) , the fans and teams throw up their hands in disgust. The guy is making a business decision and likely a pretty smart one given the violent nature of his job - his career could be over on any practice play (and then the Bills wouldn't never give him an extension). I don't fault the guy for sitting while waiting to be paid like he should.
  15. The only reason Novak spoke to police the same day is because a wittness chased him down and blocked his path preventing him from getting away. Yeah, I see a big difference there...
  16. So let me get this straight, your biggest concern is that a guy who you don't think is a winner or protects the ball will be on the field enough? Isn't this akin to the old joke where someone complains about the horrible food at a restraunt and his friend says, "and such small portions too"
  17. Leave it to Bill to get offended when Edwards is compared to a 3 time playoff QB (and to bring JP into a thread that has nothing to do with him.) As to the original post - there are many QBs that Edwards could remind someone of based on his style of play at this early stage of his career- Brady, Pennington and yes, Fielder are among them. However, comparing someone's style of play and their eventual success level are not the same thing. There have been all time greats and all time busts who had the same style - it doesn't determine success.
  18. Yeah, but if you want to run your football team this way (which I don't disagree with) then don't draft RBs in the first round. A franchise can't aford to keep letting their top draft picks than actually pan out go after one contract. The last 1st round pick the Bills signed to a second contract? Eric Moulds. That, my friends, is not a good track record.
  19. People forget how good Cowart was pre-injury. The guy was begining to dominate like Ray Lewis and imo would have been mentioned in the same breath had he not got hurt. Of course, I'm not sure he played enough games to warrent being on any all time "best" lists. His best was better than Conlan's best - WAY better - but he didn't sustain that level for long enough. The others you list - namely Paup, Speilman and TKO didn't really have a long enough tenure with the Bills to be considered "better." Again, their best was better than Conlan's best but Conlan was with the Bills for 6-7 years while Speilman and Paup were only around for what, 2 each? TKO was around longer than that but he only had 2 great years before his injury. I can't say I saw Haslett or Nelson play.
  20. You're unsure if you're still in the dark?
  21. How did I miss this quote from Rogers last week? This is the kind of thing you say to your buddies over a beer - not to the press before you've ever started a game. Unless Rogers lights it up quickly the fans are going to eat him alive.
  22. If you are looking for immediate help at the WR position the draft generally isn't the way to go (here comes the posters who post the list of a handfull of players who have done it in the past 10 years...). It would be great if Hardy could step right in and start but I seriously doubt that will happen. The best case scenario has him taking over mid-season. A more likely scenario is he doesn't move into the starting spot until next year (unless last in the season they're eliminated from the playoffs and they throw him in there to get some seasoning.)
  23. Takeo was good in Cinci (nowhere near the best in the league, however) but he was actually better in Buffalo - at least for the few productive years he had pre-injury.
  24. It's a strategy that has success when you are facing teams who are more talented/better than your team. It keeps the games close and gives your team a chance to win it late (usually when the opposing team makes a mistake.) The problem with the strategy is when you have a talented/good team because it allows lesser teams to stay close and perhaps pull out a win late. If your team is loaded with talent (and I'm not saying the Bills are) then playing this type of style gets a coach fired. Right now the Bills are somewhere in between, I'd like to see them drop the conservative game plans against lesser teams but still use it when faced with the better teams in the league.
  25. I agree with some of your comments but Vince Young? The guy isn't in the top half of starting QBs in the league, there's no way he deserves to be on a list of the top 50 players. I wouldn't have him in a list of the top 100 players.
