Bengals' Devon Still raises $400,000 for pediatric cancer res
MDH replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Uh-oh, another "balance" thread. Is this one going to turn out like the player who rescued his nephew from drowning? -
Actually, it should make the tackling better. There isn't worse tackling form than leading with your head. There only thing leading with your head accomplishes are injuries to the tackler and ball carrier.

The Jets are not going into GB and coming home with a win. Sure GB didn't look at good but that was on the road against the best team in the league. There's a wide gap between that situation and the Jets, who struggled for most of the game vs. one of the worst teams in the league and that was at home. I give the Jets slightly more than a 0% chance of coming out of week 2 with a record of 2-0.

You don't think falling off the rail and injuring himself and another, losing his job, paying a fine and 100 hours of community service accomplishes that? Hell, I'm sure he still have a civil suit coming his way. The guy made a stupid mistake and paid (is paying) for it. How much more is really needed? 100 lashes in the town square?

Corey Graham should start at CB opp Gilmore
MDH replied to 26TrapDraw's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There seems to be a different standard for judging McKelvin and Gilmore. If Gilmore had the game McKelvin did vs. the Bears he'd be getting lambasted. But since it's McKelvin he "played well." -
It seems to me that your issue is more with Goodell than with the public. The public is always going to state their opinions about any number of topics. However, Goodell (and the NFL owners) are the ones who give those complaints power. Without somebody doing something those opinions hold no weight. The bottom line is that it's the bottom line. If the NFL fears people will boycott their product they'll react to the mob, if they don't they'll ignore them (or placate them.) Nobody can force them to do anything. They have to power to do what they want and the public has the right to state (shout, tweet, etc.) their opinions. The system appears to be working just fine even if those shouting are highly obnoxious.
-
The government is supposed to work that way, not society as a whole. The public has always decides what was acceptable in their community/society. Granted, that used to involve just a small community but with the advent of new technologies it's spread much, much wider.

That is funny but man that dip sounds horrible.

Eagles player leaves 20 cent tip at restaurant
MDH replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How do you know it wasn't lousy service? I generally tip 20%, even if the service is mediocre but I've had some horrible service where I purposely left a few pennies to show my displeasure. Can we be sure this isn't what happened here? -
You need to study some history if you think it's a recent thing in America where people shout down those who don't agree with them. Shouting them down on twitter and putting pressure on someone who has authority over the person are nice compared to what people used to do. What is happening now is how things are supposed to work. The public, not the government, decides what is acceptable or unacceptable. They do that by stating their opinion. But go ahead and bemoan a "PC society." This is the open discourse you pine for. They state their beliefs and you state yours. It's funny that you're doing your part by voicing the opposite opinion but you believe this right is strictly reserved for you. Do you only like "open discourse" when the majority agrees with your side? Now I will say that I find it humorous that people are calling for Goodell to resign. As if he is a governmental figure who the people have a right to dismiss. The man works for the owners and nobody else and they're going to be looking out for their best interests here. Why do people care if Goodell is the commissioner of the NFL? He's not setting public policy.

How good does that Sheppard for Hughes trade look now
MDH replied to Bocephuz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly, how is it all for nothing? I hope they sign him too but no matter what happens it was a fantastic trade. -
FCC to end black outs it's a done deal, breaking news

Not a bad first draft of a poem. You need to work on your meter though. It might flow better if you used Iambic Pentameter. Check out Shakespeare's sonnets for a good example. Nothing wrong with football poetry, just work a little bit harder to clean it up. -
EJ isn't good enough? Not just another EJ thread.
MDH replied to stevestojan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love this idea people have that the Bills have to have studs everywhere (or even above average guys everywhere.) It's just not going to happen. Chandler is by no means a bottom of the barrel TE, I'd say he's slightly below average for a starter, somewhere in the 15-17 range. Sure he makes mistakes but have you guys seen games not involving the Bills? Lots of guys miss assignments, drop balls, fumble, etc. It doesn't make them "trash" or someone who should be cut immediately. -
People (yes, this includes sports writers) just discount the Bills because of their decade+ of futility. If they bothered looking at the roster they'd understand that the Bills have all kinds of talent. With the talent on the Bills' D it really isn't much of a surprise that the Bears struggled to score a lot. Keep winning and the Bills will get that recognition.

It's interesting that defensive players aren't give any credit in regards to win probability. If the O has a positive play it's positive WPA for them, if the D has a great play, it's negative WPA for the O.

A Few Thoughts About The Game, in no particular order.....
MDH replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Given how often EJ hands the ball off on the read option I'm beginning to think that a lot of these read option plays are simply hand-offs with read option window dressing. The window dressing would serve to lull the D to sleep for later, actual, read option plays. I'd also tend to lean this way given how they Bills want to protect EJ yet they seemingly run the read option all the time. It's either that or EJ is just a horrible read option QB. I'm hoping for the former. -
Ray Rice suspended two games? (Update: now cut/suspended)
MDH replied to Tyrod's Tailor's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, for the sake of the victim the perpetrator should go unpunished. -
Multiple Reports : Pegula IS the new owner
MDH replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nobody outside of Buffalo cares about the sale of the team. The sale isn't going to push the Ray Rice thing to the background, time will do that. -
The best thing Schwartz did in this game was his game plan coming in. He knew that Cutler didn't have the patience to dink and dunk it down field time and time again so he gave him that stuff all day long. It didn't look pretty on the stat sheet but Cutler delivered the needed INTs for the Bills to get the win. I'll be interested in seeing how he changes it up next week. If he goes with the same game plan the Bills will be in trouble vs. Tennehill who is all too happy to dump it down time and time again.
-
The most encouraging thing was Brady missing open guys quite a few times. Hopefully that continues.
-
The great thing is that it was truly a team win. Lots of guys made a play here and a play there to help the team. That's what I like to see.

A Few Thoughts About The Game, in no particular order.....
MDH replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The sad thing is that right after the play my initial reaction was, "at least he didn't tip it up in the air and get it picked off." True, and in year one or two of the rule change those WRs were still getting hit hard. You just don't see it much anymore though you're right, it can still happen. -
We lost 65 total yards in penalties
MDH replied to mitchmurraydowntown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While I wasn't happy with a lot of the calls the difference in calls can usually be explained by home field advantage. The home teams simply gets more calls, as unfair as it is. -
I didn't watch the game (obviously) but their offensive numbers looked a lot like the Bills. Under 200 yards passing and almost 200 yards rushing. The major difference I see is that Tennehill threw the ball 32 times. The Bills D better be prepared to stop the run and the short passing game.
