Vic C's BN piece--really rips Rex as defensive coach
Dr. K replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Pegulas should have known when they hired Rex that, no matter what he said, he would want to change the defense and that Schwartz was instantly a lame duck. Hell, that was the very first thing I thought when I heard they were thinking of hiring Rex. If the Pegulas truly thought they could hire Rex and have continuity on defense, they are incredibly naive. -
I remember endless complaints here about the fact that Wade did not wear headphones on the sidelines during the games, so he must be a terrible coach. That "meaningless" game at the end of the 1999 season the Bills beat the crap out of the Colts (31-6 was the score), who were 13-2 at that point and fighting for home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Bills offense had been strugging for weeks under Flutie and looked better in that game than it had all season. That was why, "inexplicably" they started Rob Johnson in the playoff game against Tennessee, the top rated team in the AFC that year.

Dunne interviews 6 NFL guys about Tyrod Taylor
Dr. K replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I second this. Dunne is by far the most credible sports writer they have at the News. It's a relief to read his work rather than the high school gossip columns of JS. -

What will get you excited for next season?
Dr. K replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It will be impossible to get me excited about next season unless Rex chooses to resign in the next three days. Otherwise, not until they are 12-4 and have a bye into the second round of the playoffs. -
Oh, so the 21 consecutive points he led them to, a couple of drives over over 80 yards for TD, the 53 yard pass to Easley don't count. Got it. And his terrible play on defense on that last Jags drive—he was the cornerback on the touchdown pass that won the game, wasn't he?

I'm okay with EJ. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person who watched the second half of the Jags game when (after putting them in a hole in the first half) EJ brought them back to go ahead late in the fourth quarter.

One Take Home From this Season - what's yours?
Dr. K replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Rex is a mediocre coach at best and will never win a Super Bowl. Too blockheaded, too undisciplined, too emotional. -
This would be my course of action, too. No more Matt Cassels

I agree that he had a five-minute meltdown in the first half of the Jags game to put the Bills in a big hole. I'm not defending his play during that period. But nobody seems to want to acknowledge that he borught the team back in the second half and got them the lead by late in the fourth quarter, and it was the defense (with some help from the refs on a missed call) that lost the game, making Blake Bortles look like a Hall of Famer.

Marrone/Schwartz to Miami? Nope. Gase it is.

I agree. -
Do you think the Bills a well managed football team?
Dr. K replied to PlayoffsPlease's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Management: okay--except for whoever thought hiring Ryan was a good idea. Head Coaching: abominable -

Carolina is a good choice. Yes. And I see no reason to believe Rex has learned anything from this season. -
Are you still bitter over fredex after seeing carlos
Dr. K replied to seadog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was never bitter about the Bills releasing Fred. I loved him as a player for the team but it was time to move on. The thing that annoyed me was the Pegulas forcing Whaley to keep Fred after Whaley had cut him last spring. -
Pegulas announce Rex and Whaley will return in 2016
Dr. K replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with this. I thought Gailey, given the incredibly mediocre receivers he had and the just servicible play he coaxed from Fitz, did a good job. His downfall was having two terrible defensive co-ordinators. Give him a couple of good receivers and a solid defense, as we see with the Jets, and he can win some games. -

Dr. K replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have no faith in Rex, and it will make me sick to see him on the sidelines making bad challenge decisions and mis-managing the clock, while on the field the players are confused and committing penalties every fifth play. No faith whatsoever because he has given me zero reason to have faith. -
How many people will be pulling for Fitz and Chan?
Dr. K replied to billsintaiwan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I liked Chan and Fitz and wish them well. I've been a faithfull Bills fan since 1966. But I will be pleased to see the Jets dismantle the Bills this weekend for one reason and one reason only--in the hope that Rex will be fired. I do not consider this rooting against the Bills. I want them to win a title or two, something they will never do with that asshat as coach. -
Please, if there is any justice in the universe, fire Rex. The team has lots of problems, and he makes them worse.

Here's what I posted on last Jan 12: I freakin' hate this. This is one one of the reasons why hiring Ryan was a bad idea. The Bills need help on offense and the first thing that happens is they lose the DC who brought them the best defense in the last decade. For what? A "Big Name" coach who hasn't won in four years. Until I see otherwise, hiring Ryan was a terrible decision. I hate this musical chairs administration. No continuity. It makes me sick. The Pegulas dazzled by Ryan's fame and the spotlight it brings. Idiocy. and: I like Whaley and I think in general he has done a good job. But Rex is the wrong HC hire. Maybe the Pegulas were leaning on him to make the sexy hire of the Big Name, like they did with LaFontaine for the Sabres. I'm saying Rex is not taking this team to the playoffs. He has a terrible record developing an offensive system and a QB. The Bills DID NOT NEED the things Ryan is bringing. He was the wrong hire for this team at this time. Of course I could be wrong, and I'll be pulling for them, but I have NO faith in Ryan. None. and this one day later: All this jazz about Rex's great defensive mind is completely beside the point. The Bills ALREADY HAD a top five defense without Rex's great defensive mind. Do you really expect, with another freakin' change of system for next season, that the defense is going to be better than it was in 2014? So what is Rex bringing to the defense that the defense NEEDED? Even if you don't care about the prospect of players having to change roles to responsibilities they are not suited for. I will be flabbergasted if they play better defense in 2015 than they played in 2014. So what is Rex Ryan bringing to this team that IMPROVES their situation for 2015? Well, apparently he's bringing Roman as the new OC, a guy who has shepherded the decline of Colin Kaepernick over the last three seasons and whom they can't wait to be rid of in San Francisco. Even if you like Roman, the Bills could have had him ANYWAY--or any number of other OCs who I think would do a better job with the Bills personnel and as mentors for Manuel, while keeping Schwartz as HC. They have thrown away any chance for continuity on either side of the ball by throwing away Schwartz, and any improvement they have at OC they could have had anyway without hiring Rex. All this optimism that Rex's presence immediately makes this team more competitive is moonshine. The guy is 26-38 over the last four seasons as a head coach. I expect Whaley will give him a good roster to manage, with upgrades on the o-line, for instance. But Whaley would have done the same for anyone--Schwartz with Bevell, for instance, as OC. I do not see any convincing way that hiring Rex is going to improve this team for 2015 over what we saw in 2014. Except all of you who are so excited that the national press is paying more attention to the Bills. Enjoy Rex's press conferences, brothers and sisters. Wrong coach for this team at this time. A step backwards.

Twitter rumors about Bills new structure, fate of Rex/Whaley

Twitter rumors about Bills new structure, fate of Rex/Whaley
Dr. K replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly. People who rail about drafting EJ never name the great QB from that draft that the Bills should have drafted instead. They never mention that Whaley traded down and picked up an extra second rounder who turned into Kiko (who later became McCoy). I've even seen people complain here about how Whaley TRADED UP to get EJ. Not to say he's been perfect and he may be gone but I don't expect this mythical "Czar" to come in and turn everything into sugarplums and twenty year old bourbon with his magic wand. Looking at the problems with the team this season and deciding to keep the coach and fired the GM would be just about a classic Bills move. -
TIME FOR THE FANS TO TAKE CONTROL
Dr. K replied to 1st Ammendment NoMas's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How about based on a year of terrible coaching, dismantling the defense, lack of discipline and accountability, losing the players, blustering and hollow promises, and a history of losing prior to his coming to Buffalo?
