This kills me. I would think ending the 17 year longest in professional sports drought would be seen as a HUGE accomplishment. High fives around. But around here, yall just want to B word about it. I don't like the way it ended, but it really was a great year for the Bills and their players, coaches, and fans. Complainers gonna complain I guess. -

This reminds me of something my boss used to say. "There's lies. There's damn lies, and then there's statistics." As far as the 19 consecutive thing, this is a little cherry picked and misleading. Take the Buccaneers win at home earlier this year. True we were ahead entering the 4th (your criteria) at 17-13. Bills kicked a FG to go up 20-13. Then Buccaneers scored 14 unanswered points (we win because of our defense). We're now down in the 4th by 27-20. What does Hotrod do? He gets US 10 unanswered points. So even though it doesn't count in your stats it sure as heck is a comeback. Lets go to the Panthers game. We're down 9-3 with less than :30 to play. He hits Drop Zone in the hands on the goal line. I give him an asterisk for this come back like I did for Fitz and the Pittsburgh SJ drop. Now as far as the last 7 games go, yeah playoff game was bad. But the Jags have held 7 teams to less than 10 in 2017. Of those last 6 games of the regular season where we WON 4, 2 were against the Patsies**. Hotrod had a TD stolen in the 4th by the instant replay refs in the second one. Colts game he didn't play in. After 4, we were ahead 16-10 vs Cheaps. 1st Fish game we were ahead 24-6. 2nd Fish game we were ahead 19-3. Did Hotrod have anything to do with that? We all know Coach McDermott loves to sit on a lead. So it's not surprising we weren't going up and down the field scoring a lot of points. So in those 6 games, 2 were vs Patsies**, 3 we were ahead going into 4th so Rico and Coach McDermott sat on the football, and 1 he didn't even play. Add to that he had 1 comeback and one asterisk comeback this year. Stats are great, but often do not tell the whole story as is the case here. Bottom line: We won 4 out of the last 6 down the stretch to secure a playoff game and you're bitching because he doesn't pass for more yards. OK. Just give me the wins. -
Possible Darkhorse FA QB's
reddogblitz replied to Jamie Muellers Ghost's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I didn't see AJ McCarron's name on the list. I'd make a strong run at him, especially if he wins and is a FA. They were willing to trade him to Clowns ... -
Possible Darkhorse FA QB's

This is the strategy Marrone used. get an injury riddled vet who won't last more than 6 game. Then put in the rookie . Personally I have no desire for Bradford. Serious question: is Bradford for half a season for the more money really any better than Hotrod? We pay 8 mil to cut Hotrod and sign Bradford for 9, in fact he is more expensive. I seriously question if we would be in a better place if we did that. -

Are you saying the things on your list had no impact? Double Agreed. -
The trivialization of the WR position by the Bills and TBD is mind boggling to me. We have next to no talent there. Look at teams that have good QBs and who thier WRs are. Dalton has Sanuand AJ Green. Bill bellyache traded a #1 pick for a WR and he had Tom freakin' Brady ad his QB. It's the second most important position after QB. If we get some fancy passing QB, we need to majorly upgrade the unit. I thought when we had Watkins, Woods, Harvin, Hogan, and Goodwin we had figured it out. Now we are back to Coach Gailey era WRs. Hopefully with all these picks and cap room we can get some good WRs back in town. We also need a real one two punch back up RB. This team is sorely LAcking on offensive talent imho
-
We also got a new OC and blocking scheme. Shady's ypc was down 1.4 from last year. Cut him too? Stats may have gone down, so whaf.? Wins and playoff appearances went up. I'll take that all day long. Only at TBD is passing yards more important than wins and playoffs.

You forgot the part about the wins. * Hotrod 23-21 .523 Everyone else 1-4 .200 * includes playoffs -
Deja vu all over again. Seems like one year ago Today I was reading the exact same thing. A year, 16 games, and playoffs and I read the same I have no idea if he'll be back or not. Well know within a couple of months. I think its far from a certainty.

As am I. I just don't want to go backwards at QB (which is entirely possible if not likely). It wasn't all Hotrod's fault either. Other guys screwed up too. Kelvin in the EZ. 2 dropped picks. A penalty on a play after Shady ripped off a 35 yard run. A couple of big pass drops. Letting Blake Bortles run all over us. I hope we don't go backwards ...
-
I agree. I hope he doesn't try to pigeon hole the next QB into his "system" that he's not a fit for. I would really like to see us fire Rico and hire Coach McDermott's first choice Mike McCoy. First day on the job I tell him "go build us an offense suited to Hotrod like you did for Denver and Teblow." The guy has a track record of success doing this. The polar opposite of Rico.

I can see this. I just hope our future is not worse without him. We could plan for the future and not start a rookie or 2nd level vet. It took us 17 years to get to this point. I don't want to chuck it in litter box on a possible maybe. Possible maybes have not worked out real well for us in the past. As far as the last 3 years. His production dropped off this year with a new staff and OC. Think that had anything to do with it? Shady's production was down 1.4 ypc as well. Things can always get worse. Be careful what you ask for. imho

I give Bortles credit and Alex Smith and Goff and Hotrod. Even if you think the QB didn't do much, as we have seen, a QB can certainly screw it up. the fact that he got all the calls, took every snap, and didn't fug it up gets Just out of curiosity. what if we can't get smith or Keenum or Cousins? Theres likely to be a lot of competition from teams like Denver, Jets, Cardinals, Jaguars, Washington, We have not fared so well in these FA QB bidding wars in the past. Are you prepared to go into next year with a rookie and a sub average vet like say Fitz or Matt Moore and Nasty Nate? Could come to that if we dump Hotrod come hell or high water. Things can always get worse. Don't forget, we're not in the drought anymore and are a defending playoff team.

Hypothetical - If Peterman won the game
reddogblitz replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not sure. But if Nate couldn't find his helmet and we had to put Joe Webb III in and HE won it I absolutely would start him next week : -
Cool. I'm all for improving the QB position. Find someone BETTER, not just someone else, and I'm good with it. Alex Smith or Case Keenum would fill the bill for me. Also draft someone bring Hotrod back and !et em duke it out in PS. That's what Seattle did. if we can't sign someone then keep Hotrod and draft someone like Andy Reid did. It's not like he is that horrible and we can get to playoffs with him and a bare cupboard. Refill the cupboard. Results will be better hopefully. Dumping your QB that you know you can win games with in the hopes someone better comes along is drought thinking IMHO. I know, old habits die hard . We are now in the post drought era and its about winning now.
