  1. among the Top 10 picks. Robinson will have to make a quick change if the Bills sign Pickett. 8. Buffalo Bills – Haloti Ngata, DT, Oregon. Larry Tripplett was a nice pickup in free agency, but he'll need to work next to a rock to be most effective. Ngata fits the bill perfectly as the replacement for Sam Adams. This might be the most absolute lock among the top-10 picks
  2. People forget that Terry Bradshaw, Elway and Aikman all were terrible in their 1st years as starters. Sure they were all thrown in as rookies but JP had only a little experience prior to last season. I guess some of us were disappointed after all the positive vibes coming from OBD in the prior offseason from TD, Wyche, and Mularkey about how much work JP was putting in and how much he was improving. Well, none of that was in live action. I say "Give the kid some more time". Evaen Tim Couch got a reasonable amount of time before he was tossed away.
  3. Yes, I was just thinking about DE. Schobel is solid but the Bills could use more of a difference-maker. Now they wil lhave to contend with Culppepper twice a year. I get sick of Brady just sitting there in the pocket with all day to throw and pick the Bills defense apart. A DE that gets the other teams attention and one that could even get pressure against double teams like Bruce used to.
  4. Man, this does mess things up for the early picks in the draft but it could still work out. Oakland still needs a QB and, at this point, have a good shot at one in the draft. If Houston doesn't trade their pick, they're likely to draft Bush, or Ferguson or somebody other than a QB, unless they've been blowing smoke. With New Orleans signing Brees, they are very unlikely to take another QB with such a high pick. The Jets. If they were to add Ramsey to Pennington, they aren't likely to go QB. The Titans. They have an aging injury-prone McNair, and a strong backup in Volek, who they invested good money in to keep. However, would they still consider taking Leinhart with the Chow connection? Could be. Green Bay took Rodgers last year so even if Favre hangs 'em up, aren't going QB. SF took Smith last year so they aren't taking one. So, unless one of the teams above the Bills now trades their pick, it's likely one of the top 3 QBs will be there when the Bills draft. Detroit, having signed Kitna, will likely keep Harrington so they won't trade up for a QB but would they for another position?? Arizona, even if McCown leaves, has Warner with Navarette backing him up. Might they move up for a QB of the future?? How about Cleveland and Baltimore?? Minnesota, by trading Culpepper and going with Brad Johnson could use a QB of the future again. If all the teams above the Bills keep their picks, it looks like Ferguson, Mario Williams, Hawk, Bush, and 2 QBs will likely be taken. That leaves one more slot before the Bills pick. That could be Vernon Davis by SF. That leaves it back to Ngata or Huff for the Bills. If the Bills were to sign Pickett, they're not likely to go for Ngata. Like some other posters, I don't like Huff at #8. I'd rather see if someone just below the Bills really want somebody and move down a couple spots and get another pick. Then see who's left. If they stayed in the top 12, Winston Justice could still be there.
  5. Some of you guys have been right on with your comments about a QB like McCown. If he recognized his own difficulties playing at the Ralph in winter weather, I hope Marv and company do. If you look at the 2 most successful QBs in Bills' history, Kelly and Ferguson, they both had rifles for arms that could cut through the winds at Ralph late in the season. Any decent QB can play well in September, its what they do in the 2nd half of the season, especially if the team is making a playoff push, that matter more. If McCown doesn't have the arm to battle the elements at the Ralph, forget about him!! Ultimately, I hope the Bills finally get the linemen and offensve game plans to run the ball successfully so the QB doesn't have to be relied on to win. Still you want to have a QB that won't be handicapped by the weather conditions. There's a case somewhat against Vince Young and Leinhart. They haven't played much in bad weather. Who knows how they'd do??
  6. Yeah, I always thought the NFL was half-ass backwards. They start out with free agency where teams know all their needs but don't know who they can sign from other teams or their own. Then, half way thru the free agency period, they have a draft. Then they continue with free agency. Wouldn't it be better to have one, then do the other (maybe draft first) so teams can get a better feel for how they'll fill their needs?? The way they do it now also has some affect on raising salaries when a team wants to fill a need at a position, there's only a couple guys they'd consider as free agents and they have little idea what's going to be available to them when they draft. So, they overpay for one of the free agents they like.
  7. AVB of TSW reports that the Bills are $75 million under the cap for 2012.
  8. Well, remember that Roy Williams was taken at #8. Some of the other safeties that have turned into great pros were taken a little later with Rodney Harrison at 14, Polamalu at 16, and Ed Reed at 24. The video of Huff someone provided didn't give me a good enough impression of him to be taken at #8, however.
  9. Bills Daily shows the Bills at $15.9 Million under as of 3/11 but the signings of Triplett and Royal were announced on 3/11. So, is this number before these signings or after?? It obviously doesn't include signing of Davis and re-signing of Jerman.
  10. Well, it seems pretty certain Josh Reed won't be back. So, with Moulds' staus not finalized yet, that would leave only Aiken, Parrish and Freddie Smith with Evans. I think Davis makes the team, even as the #4 receiver.
  11. The 2005 Bills sure weren't familiar with what it was like in that Miami game.
  12. signal when it snows??? This is the 2nd time this month it's snowed here in California and I lost the signal. The ACC Final starts in about an hour!! My roof has a good pitch to it so I'm not too enthused about going up there to get the snow off.
  13. We got 4 inches out here in the Sacramento area and it's still snowing. And to think I delayed a visit to my Dad in Buffalo to avoid the winter weather. LOL!!!
  14. Hey, Bob, get any snow down there??!! We got 4 inches and it's stil snowing!!
  15. I heard Oakland pulled out of the persuit of Culpepper after hearing Minn wanted a 2nd round draft pick. What did they expect to get him for?? I know he had a major knee injury but this is also a guy who's had 40 TDs in 2 separate seasons. Al Davis has used a 1st round pick on a Todd Marijaunavich and an earlier than expected 1st rounder on Seabass and he doesn't want to spend a 2nd rounder on a Pro Bowl caliber QB??
  16. Hey, like your avatar. Those 2 guys were the best of the Muppets for me.
  17. That was my first reaction. Unless he has super strong arms and hands, he sure isn't going to bring down a big NFL RB like Alexander or McGahee like that. I was expecting a big hitter.
  18. Yes, the key would be the versatility you'd have a with a TE like Davis. The Bills offense has tended to be pretty predictable over the last few years. Think of the use of the TE similar to the blitzing defense we've had. From play to play there's the unknown of which players could be involved in a pass play. Just like with the defense where another team wouldn't know if the blitz was coming from an outside LB or a corner, you could have the two TEs that were both good at blocking and receiving. One one play, one TE goes out on a pattern while the other stays in to block. On another play they reverse roles. We don't know how the current team management will look at things but I would like them to go for versatility and an impact player with the 8th pick. I would also like the idea of drating Huff. Think of some of the top defenses and their top players. Pittsburgh , for instance, has Troy Polamalu at strong safety. He's an excellent player that brings a lot of versatility. He can come up to support the run, blitz on a definite passing down and also get back into coverage. I''m not very familar with Huff but if that's the kind of player he is, he could help the defense tremendously. It seems the Bills management had determined that Lawyer Milloy may have given them the run suport and blitzing abilities but he wasn't very goo d in pass coverage. Takeo Spikes gives the Bills the same type of player at LB, as he also is effective whether it's in pass coverage, blitzing or supporting the run.
  19. People always become critical of the GM when a draft pick doesn't pan out. It is not an exact science, however. The pick of Flowers was a bad choice, but only because he was taken with a late first round pick. If I remember correctly, the general consensus was that he was a late 2nd round or 3rd round pick. The Bills (Wade Phillips) were wowed by him at the Combine and "reached" to take him. This didn't necessarily have much to do with John Butler and the scouts. All of the NFL teams have reps at the Combine and their overall lists are about the same. They could have different opinions about a player based on their needs, how they'd fit on their teams and what came out of the interviews. So, again, the worst you can say about the Bills' selection of Flowers is that they took him too early. Had they not taken him, another team would've a little later in the draft. He just didn't make it as an NFL player. You can apply this same logic to the drafting of Mike WIlliams with the 4th pick in the draft. On everybody's board, he was rated high. Had the Bills not taken him at #4, he would've been taken at #5 or sometime soom after. He just turned out to be a bust with the Bills. You can't really blame TD for picking him.
  20. I like the idea. While there are no real good excuses for the way the defense played last year, they could've been better if the offense did more. So, by drafting Davis, maybe keeping Moulds is not as big of a deal. If Moulds is kept, what offensive potential!!
  21. LOL!!! The 1st one was a sign that said: "Dont't Drink and Drive" which included the misspelling. The 2nd was a ground level grave marker with the name: "DUMFART"
