Yeah, the disparity in talent was often an extreme back then. They'd have a few games in a season where they'd get just a few 1st downs and lose like 31-0. The Green Bay game, although a similar score didn't feel as bad because the defense helped hold it to 13-7 at the half and the 1st downs and time of possession were close.
There were many games in the 70's & 80's where the game was over in the 1st qtr and you knew there was no way the team had the capability to make a game of it.
Yes, and I've said it several times: Why make a switch to the 3-4 defense when your offense was the bigger problem and your new head coach is offense-minded?? As a result, the top 2 free agent acquisitions in A.Davis & Edwards were brought in because of their familiarity with the 3-4. Two of the top 4 draft picks were for the defensive side.
It has been said that you couldn't make this team a playoff contender in one offseason but I disagree. If the Bills stuck with a 4-3 defense, they could have focused on the offense in free agency and the draft. McNabb was acquired by Washington for a 2nd and a conditional 3rd or 4th in 2011 so, they could've gone that way for a veteran QB & drafted one. The QB position would've been in a lot better shape than what they started the season with.
I like Kellen Moore, too!! They have some nice paint colors. Oh wait, you're talking about the QB.
Seriously, even though he usually isn't playing against top competition, he has at the start of this year(Oregon St)
I've been impressed with his leadership & decision making.
Maybe the Niners. They don't seem to have good East Coast scouts as they overpaid for Kevin Williams, Jason Jennings and Clements over the years.
Being a Stanford product they should love him. Alex Smith had another poor game after showing promise vs New Orleans. They also have David Carr & Troy Smith so they might be interested.
I joined the TBD Pick Winners & Survival Pools started by SDS on BetaBuddy but didn't write down the league names/pwds and don't find them anywhere here.
Can someone please help??
How can you call 6-10 a "great season"??
I wouldn't even call it a good season. Another way of putting it would be " 6-10 would not be a horrible season".
I agree with you. A lot of the rushing yards given up last year were on big plays (Ex: Thomas Jones) or when the Defense was on the field for most of the game (Saints' Pierre Thomas in 4th qtr).
During this preseason, the starting defense has been giving up a lot of 15 to 20 yard runs. They seem worse vs the run.
I agree with you. Take the ball. If you're playing on the road and you can go down and score on the 1st drive, you take the crowd out of it some. Conversely, if you're at home you can really have the advantage by scoring 1st as you're crowd is in to it and the opponent is down before having had the ball.
Wow!! Shows how long it's been since the Bills last trip with the "Where would you watch it?"
Or this board has changed and there aren't many members left from the 4 straight trips.
