Unfortunately my friend's dog died today on the way to the vet. She was showing signs of improvement over the last couple days after the chemo but all of a sudden had trouble breathing. So not only is she dealing with a lot of debt from vet bills, she is absolutely devastated after losing her best friend. I truly appreciate your response and donation Zevo.

Thanks. It means a lot! I feel really bad for her and it isn't that she doesn't have a full time job and the ability to pay the normal expenses of having a pet, it is the huge costs of cancer treatment. Christmas has been cut way back and presents will be minimal this year. I know some people don't understand spending so much on a pet, but they become like family and you have an obligation to do everything feasible to give them the best life possible. I spent about $125 a month for many years to treat the Addison's Disease that my dog has. It adds up to a lot but I can't imagine letting him die due to the cost of treatment.

There are few things more pitiful and self serving than the "I'm leaving" post. Do us all a favor and just leave without the drama queen bull **** post.

I don't know how everyone feels about the gofundme stuff, but I have a friend that has spent a lot of money over the last few years to get her dog treatment for a heart condition and cancer. The dog is her best friend and has been with her through good times and bad. I have never asked for donations before and would not do this if it wasn't so important to me. It is nice that Simon is donating so much money to help animals, But whenever I see people supporting PETA, I can't help but think they are either immensely ignorant to the true intentions and workings of PETA or they are a horrible person. PETA is a disgusting group of hypocrites and bullies that prey on little kids and the ignorant. Sorry about the rant but PETA evokes that reaction.

Didn't Haslett trash Kent Hull and others with steroid allegations. I think I heard Hull and several of his ex teammates were pissed at him and I always felt Haslett was a weasel.

I'm willing to bet that there is more to this story. It is just too perfectly set up as a media slam dunk. I hate to be such a skeptic but I find it hard to believe that someone who works as a mall Santa and deals with kids all day treated this girl so poorly after the dog was removed. There must have been more to the initial confrontation. Probably some back and forth between the parents and the Santa. After all, they did name their kid abcde! I'm doubting they are reasonable and accommodating. This would be a perfect platform for the family and their friend who just so happens to be a "service dog advocate" to get some major sympathy and support.

If you get a chance to try any of the Naked Dove beers out of Canandaigua, NY, give them a try. It is a small brewery that only produces kegs. They are starting to make their way into Rochester and surrounding bars. The Naughty and Nice just came out and it is one of my favorite "Christmas Beers".

Not necessarily new, but I just had it again for the first time in years...Smuttynose, Old Brown Dog. It is definitely in my top 5. I've become a fan of Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale recently too.

I've been reading up and it certainly seems like the D5000 series gets rave reviews across the board. Are the stock lenses enough to provide quality pictures in most settings or do you need to have a few different options?

It looks like the D5100 has been discontinued and replaced with the D5200. I did find some good deals on used and refurbished D5100s though. What are your thoughts on buying a used camera?

Are there any photography junkies that can provide some recommendations to someone that is looking to move past the point and shoot camera and into something more advanced? I don't know if it is realistic, but I am hoping to get a decent DSLR set up for around $600 or less. Are there any good places to buy a used camera or is that a bad idea? The Nikon D3300 looks promising.

I like my Henckels but they are not on the same level as the Japanese knife that I bought. The German knives are thicker and seem to be better for certain tasks like cutting through bone or cartilage. The Japanese knives are thin and made from a steel that takes a razor sharp edge. They slice so much better. It will rust or tarnish though if it is not cared for properly though. There does seem to be a few manufacturers like Shun that are more marketing than substance though. Kind of like the BOSE of Japanese knives and riding the wave of increased interest.

Anyone else a little too into their knives? I spent hours researching types of steel and different manufacturers and decided on the Zakuri Yanagiba in Blue Super Carbon steel. I realize this is not normal behavior. Although I felt a little better after finding entire forums dedicated to kitchen knives! After using a quality knife I really can't understand how anyone can tolerate a crappy, dull knife. Do you have a brand or specific knife that you recommend? My Henckels are looking at an early retirement as I find replacements...

That's awesome! I've always wanted a Garand. My arsenal has been shrinking as I realize that I simply don't fire many of my guns much any more, but that would be one I would happily make room for in the safe.

Anyone have any words of wisdom related to meeting a girlfriend's 4 year old daughter for the first time? I really like this girl and don't view it as a fling. The mom has not dated anyone since the daughter's father and that ended a couple years ago, so I will be the first guy that is getting to meet her. My girlfriend also has full custody so there is a very big attachment. I have no kids and very limited experience dating someone with a child. Any pointers from those of you that have been through it before would be appreciated.
