  1. This is where I'm at as well. Dennison was a 'second choice' hire. Given McD's agreesiveness on player personnel, I can see him reconfiguring his staff next yer, especially if they draft a QB high...
  2. From him? No way, no how...
  3. The 'money being there' is also dependent on fan interest. If interest among the under-35 year old set continues to decline, it won't matter what 1,500 to 2,000 elite college football players want to do for a living. http://enewsletterpro.weblications.com/display2.aspx?SID=5f833a3c-4545-4a01-baf7-6c50c7a95623&N=8592 https://www.forbes.com/sites/adamhartung/2017/09/29/the-nfl-has-a-bigger-problem-than-kneeling-employees-demographics-and-trends/#18bd97254efc Live sports is not attracting new, younger viewers Magna Global recently released its 2017 U.S. Sports Report. According to Radio + Television Business Report (RBR.com) the age of live sports viewers is scewing older. Much older. Today the average NFL viewer is at least 50. Similar to tennis, and college basketball and football. That's second only to baseball at 57 - which was 50 as recently as 2000. But no sport is immune. In another study, teenage interest in the NFL was found to have fallen from 26% to 19% over the last two decades.
  4. And this is good for the NFL, how?? Very few if any of these young people are pro football fans. That's dad and grampa's game. OTOH, Twitch is a big party according to my son and way more fun than getting $hitfaced in the parking lot of some sterile NFL stadium and watching three hours of guys dodging / inflicting CTE collisions. As the poster above you said, participation in youth football is dropping. Our school district, like many in southern WNY, has seen a decline in the number of kids going out for football. They've merged the football team with a neighboring district--and still don't have enough kids to put a credible team on the field (I think they scored 3-4 TDs all season and typically lost by 30+ points). More kids are playing lacross, volleyball, soccer--and yes, video games. Take away the alumni from many of those college stadiums and I wonder how full they'll be in the future. The point is, things change. It may take 20, 30 years, but I can see the NFL going the way of dinosar if more young people don't become fans...
  5. https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-bluetooth-audio-receiver-for-your-home-stereo-or-speakers/ The Audioengin B1 has lots of good reviews. It's pricey but if you have a good analog rig it should sound the best.

  7. Things change. The twenty-somethings I know would never tie up their Sunday's by gluing themselves to TV. That's old fashioned. They're much more into doing/experiencing things and or interacting with other people on their free time. Being a spectator is what the old folks do. And after the crappy NFL Europe games we've seen, it's not likely the NFL brand of 'entertainment' will supplant soccer on a global stage...
  8. Easy fix. Turn it off. It's nothing more than crack for shut ins and the comfortably numb...
  9. I think a more likely reason for the NFL's demise will be the lack of interest that Millennials have in the game. My twenty-something kids and their friends could care less about the NFL. If that generation doesn't become fans, advertising revenue will eventually find other outlets...
  10. Yep. A legend in his own mind.

  13. Fug! Goodell should be fired for allowing those uni's...
  14. He was already talking about retiring at the end of the season. I guess his retirement just got accelerated...
  15. At this point, no more than JJ Watt, Luke Kuechly, Eric Berry, etc.
  16. Glenn has had three DIFFERENT injuries over the past two years. Not one 'chronic condition.' He got a high ankle sprain in the preseason of 2016. He hurt his back in week 12 and missed the final three games of 2016. And this year, he hurt his other foot in spring workouts and he's been battling THAT injury through the first half of the year. You can have you own (half-baked) thoughts, but that doesn't make them logical...
  17. Based on the $$$ Robert Woods got to be a number 2 in LA, that's still more than I can see this FO wanting to spend at the WR position. And Matthews' agent will surely point to that contract as a starting point for his client, given JM's greater career production than Woods. But your point about who the QB is is a good one. If TT's off the roster, a rookie QB salary might help subsidize the #2 WR, whoever that is (I'm not sold on Matthews being that guy yet)...
  18. Well, they obviously must have been looking for a little warmth...
  19. Agreed. The next eight games are Matthews's audition for whether he stays or goes. As a Panther alum, Benjamin has to have the leg up in the competition. Given the way McBeane does not like to lock up big $$$ in any one position group, Jordan will have play like his hair's on fire if he's going to have any chance of remaining a Bill....
  20. Good thing we don't play on Wednesday...
  21. Agreed. Unfortunately, his draft profile appears to be who he is: http://www.nfl.com/draft/2011/profiles/adolphus-washington?id=2555235 BOTTOM LINE: Washington has the size and athleticism that should get him taken within the first two days of the draft, but his issues with contact balance might be something that always hinders his ability to reach his true potential. Washington can become an effective interior pass rusher if he can force himself to play with better knee bend, but he must play with more consistent urgency or could turn into just another guy in the rotation rather than a full-time starter.
  22. Well....given that DT depth took a big hit with Dareus' departure, his increase in playing time is sort of by default rather than merit. Not sure we got better here...
  23. Getting over his ankle problems it seems...
  24. Still doing well against the run. Teams are taking advantage of the soft zone coverage by the LBs, S. Wright's marginal coverage skills and lack of depth at nickle and dime DB. They're dinking and dunking their way down field in the passing game...
  25. Agreed. Rushing yards per game are essentially the same and YPC is actually down vs. the week 1-4 average. Passing yardage is up significantly and that reflects the lack of depth at CB as well as more teams exploiting the LBs in underneath coverage. The short patterns against the LBs also help get the ball out faster, reducing the pass rush/sack stats. Coverage LB and CB depth will be big priorities in the off-season...
