  1. Talent pool is more important than anything else. Especially for knowledge-based tech type jobs. Amazon chose two of the highest cost locations in the country--simply because they could deliver the talent pool needed to fill 25,000 jobs. Other areas are growing, we're not. That explains a lot about why our economy lags so many southern/western metros...
  2. Thanks for passing through. Don't come back...
  3. Two-faced Timmah. He's sanctimonious about so many things--then has O.J. on his show? smh...
  4. $2 billion in tax credits (i.e., credits against future tax bills, not actual cash payments) over ten years seems like a fair price to pay for 25,000 new jobs paying $150,000 per year (a total of $38 billion over ten years). Not a bad investment at all...
  5. The only one assuming here is you. The people leaving NYS are retirees and middle aged workers with mismatched labor skills (i.e., ex manufacturing workers who don't have the skills needed for a growing knowledge-oriented service economy). The data's all there in the annual American Community Survey produced by the Census Bureau. Even a caveman can do the analysis, but it's a lot easier to just repeat 'conventional wisdom' ad nauseum. Factoid: The Millennial population in the Buffalo-Niagara metro area has grown at almost twice the national average over the past decade (21.7% vs 12.5%). A net increase of nearly 30,000 people, of whom about three-quarters have an Associate's degree or higher...
  6. Nope. $1.5 billion over ten years is equivalent to a five minute squat in the Amazon executive washroom. NYC has the talent pool needed to add 25,000 jobs from. That's invaluable to a trillion dollar company. $1.5 billion in tax credits? Not so much... Much better to never read or know anything. It always makes your initial gut reaction be right!...
  7. This has nothing to do with Cuomo or NYS. New Era is no longer a manufacturer. Full stop. They are a design and branding house. Having a token production facility in Derby became irrelevant once they passed $500 million in revenue, on their way to a billion...
  8. No. No it is not...

  10. As a corollary, I wonder how many folks that applies to here on TSW...
  11. I feel bad for anyone who loses their life's ambition. Even the never-were's and never-will-be's here on TSW...
  12. Yep. He doesn't have the arm, but seems to have a legit NFL head. I was very impressed with how well he saw the open receiver and made quick, decisive throws that were on time--not "pat, pat, pat, run around a bit, desperate heave" cluster-****'s like we've seen from too many Bills QBs in recent years...
  13. Competent QB play makes a world of difference. Just like competent goaltending in hockey. The Sabres finally have it and it's not surprising that they're doing better this year. When the rest of the team see the guy at the most important position on the field/ice making plays, it lifts all boats. You feel comfortable taking more chances and relying on your teammates, rather than trying to do too much (or too little). I thought the Bills fed off of the confidence they drew from Barkley not sucking, like I'm sure the rest of the world expected as well. That first series was a shot of adrenaline that just set the whole thing in motion (somewhat similar to the Vikings game). I also think getting good play from Teller added a big dose of confidence to the OL play...
  14. Some pretty good hot takes early in this thread....
  15. Ding! Ding! Ding! Dumb post of the month, come on down...
  16. "Barkley. Matt Barkley..."
  17. After today, I don't think anything anymore...
  18. What the heck happened to the Jets d-line? It wasn't long ago they were touted as the best in the NFL...

  22. Here are the Alabama players in the NFL by draft year: http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/fulldraft?abbr=A&collegeName=Alabama&abbrFlag=0&type=school They send a lot of complimentary players, but not a lot of stars...
