(hypothetical) Alabama vs. Bills spread
Lurker replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
An NFL team will beat any college roster even if it were entirely comprised on 1st and 2nd round prospects, IMO. The operative word here is prospect. Half of those first rounders will eventually (maybe 2-3 years down the road) be mediocre NFL players and about two-thirds of the second rounders will, so "draft buzz" is just that for a large swath of the Alabama roster--buzz. Wet behind the ears college kids--no matter their pedigree--could not match the physical, mental and experience levels of men who devote 365 days a year to their craft. Full stop, IMO... -
(hypothetical) Alabama vs. Bills spread

Men against boys, you've got to pick the men, IMO. Even with all the day 1-2 draft choices Alabama has on their roster, the bulk of their team will never see an NFL game from anywhere but the stands. Look at the two UDFAs the Bills signed from Alabama this year. One couldn't catch a cold at the NFL level and the other just came off the practice squad and will likely be last on the team's depth chart at his position, assuming he's even activated on game day. There's more to the NFL game than physical talent. There's the experience, savvy and ability to adjust to different schemes that's light years ahead of the college game. I'd bet on the Bills to beat that spread... -

Hockey is fast paced for the casual sports fan

That a big part of it, IMO. I played right through freshman year of college when I tore up my knee and hung up the skates. Watching games with that kind of perspective is easy and enjoyable for me. I usually look at guys without the puck, the goalie's positioning and anticipate/recognize situations even when the puck's not visible. I've tried to instill that knowledge and love of the game to my son, who never played, and he just sort of shrugs and smiles. He'll watch games, but he doesn't 'see' them. -
Bucky and Sully Blackballed By The Pegulas?
Lurker replied to Phil The Thrill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They would have a hard time qualifying for PFWA membership, given their popgun website: http://www.profootballwriters.org/about-the-pfwa/join-the-pfwa/ Membership in the Professional Football Writers of America is open to those who fit the following criteria: 1. He/she must be employed by a media organization of general circulation, which regularly assigns reporters to cover professional football. 2. Such an employee must be one of the following: A. A reporter assigned regularly to cover professional football. B. A sports editor, assistant sports editor or head of a sports desk. C. A regular sports columnist. D. Anyone certified by his/her sports editor as a football specialist who is not covered in paragraphs A, B or C. 3. Anyone who does not qualify under sections 1 and 2 above may be granted membership on a case-by-case basis by the membership committee and president, but only if the applicant meets the following criteria: A. He/she is an employee of a weekly newspaper or news magazine, which covers professional football on a regular basis, and the applicant is assigned to such coverage. B. He/she is an employee of a daily newspaper of specialized circulation (such as a foreign language or neighborhood newspaper) which regularly assigns reporters to cover professional football. C. He/she is a sports editor or regular columnist of a daily newspaper of general circulation that does not regularly assign reporters to cover professional football. D. He/she is an employee, editor or owner of a web site which specializes in professional football. E. He/she is a writer for a media enterprise who primarily is responsible for covering professional football or related subjects such as college football as it pertains to the NFL Draft. 4. WHO DESERVES THE BLAME?? THE PEGULAS!

Yep. How some posters don't get the difference between Rivers and Allen/Anderson/Peterman is mind boggling... -
Who cares if he a 5th round pick. Kyle Williams was a 5th rounder and he turned out OK. This kid may as well...

Bucky and Sully Blackballed By The Pegulas?

Bupkis. A new sports editor with fresh eyes and large market experience was hired by the BN. He came in, observed what 'talent' he had and decided to "purge the roster" (through buyouts) and rebuild his team. No different than what the Bills do every time a new HC is hired. Sully and Bucky were 'retired in place' hacks long before they got the big check from uncle Warren. Addition by subtraction may have been tough on their egos, but guys like that are always the last to see the writing on the wall... -

Deadspin: Someone Left A Poo At The Bills Game
Lurker replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"Tim says he got to his seats about a half-hour before kickoff, only to discover a piece of ***** in the row in front of him." Funny, I had season tickets for 18 years and it was that way every week in my section... -
It is backward. But that doesn't make it wrong. I flipped to the New Orleans-Rams game after the Bills loss. I got bored by the end of the first quarter with both teams moving up and down the field at will, like an NBA game with no defense. I'm not interested in that type of football and the NFL has a problem on it's hands if that's what the future looks like, IMO...

That's a truly odd POV, IMO. Uber is a business taking payment from riders for facilitating a service. The drivers may be independent contractors, but Uber is the entity riders are contracting with--just like any business. The riders are not "in public" anymore than if they were in a taxi--and have every right to expect their privacy to be honored...
