Bodine traded to the Patriots for a 6th round pick

he's been playing the versatility and formation game soooooooo long i've picket it up, and i'm just a fan. sometimes i wonder if most NFL coaches who have obviously been seeing the same thing just aren't creative because can't seem to do it. -

this tells me the pats are having big line issues. one thing we are trying to do, and that billicheck does better than anyone, is keep some players how can play a few different positions. He's had WRs at DB, RBs at WR, WR at RB, TE at WR, TE at RB, LBs who play from like safety down to DT in a 4 man obvious passing down, ILB who rush the passer vs certain formations, from the edge of the line up, and when there are injuries he's had RTs move to LG, C move to RT, and like a guy from the snack stand come in and long snap. to me his greatest feat is engineering all of his schemes to put the player in a place where he is asked to do something he is capable of doing well, and not in a position where he is asked to do something he struggles with. on the other side, he always tries to force players on the opponents into spots where they are just not comfortable. I remember the 2nd game of the rex era, tyrod at home after a big indy win. We scored a run it down their throats TD on the first drive, and forced a quick punt on their first drive. he barked at the LBs on the sideline and then all of a sudden we couldn't run it anymore against them. And they got some cheap calls and made some big plays to dismantle our overwrought D. We were still in the game late, due to some just insane hero plays from tyrod (who just decided the following year to not attempt those anymore) but the same slow dirty d that couldn't cover jack vs us early just shut us down for big stretches of the game by confusing tyrod and keeping in the pocket. i really really hope dabol picked up lots of lessons from all of that and has us always playing advantage. -

Jordan Mills Released by Miami

Point: this shows how just trrbl our line was last year. I think we were bottom 3, along w houston and zona. Counterpoint: we had an awful awful tackle a while ago, can't remember his name, but he went on to start at LT for the arizona team with warner who went to the super bowl and shoulda won vs pittsburgh. of course warner gets the ball out like a hot potatoe (no dan quale) -
The Bills need to keep Duke Williams

i'm pretty agnostic on Zay, would be a bit of a surprise to see him cut but not a shock. He just seems to have something in his head preventing him from putting it all together. He can catch, he can run routes, he can find a soft spot, he can block, but he just can't seem to do it when it matters most. he's not a burner and is kinda lacking in short area quickness, so he really needs to run good routes (which he does, but only sometimes) and use his body and hands to full advantage. he caught all kinds of odd balls in college, so i think he is capable, but something is wrong with his mind on the pitch. i'd love to see him click and ball out, but not sure he will especially given our young QB and lots of new people on O, he won't have many chances to show improve, and the coaches may have already moved on. -
ncaa football players should only play for schools which they academically (im willing to flex a tiny bit, but no 3rd grade readers going to Florida State, gotta be 7th grade like everyone else!) qualify. bring back amateurism to college sports and make a dev league for the nfl. you'd still get some smart good athletes out of college, and most of the limb rippers would come from the dev league. people arguing that Kap and the kneelers had a right to do what they did during the anthem ignore the fact that the NFL regulates so many aspects of player lives (and some i think go beyond the pale, like punishing guys for crimes which they did not get convicted for, mainly i have an issue with how nontransparent it all is): you don't get to just do what you want at work. if a player decided to turn his back to the field and throw up a roman salute, or moon the crowd would the support be the same? obviously not. the NFL is getting dangerously close to the NBA in that they have a bit of a star culture (way way less bad than the NBA), and they are doing some really goofy stuff wrt enforcing rules (the NBA allows blatant travelling and cupping the ball if it's done smoothly, the NFL just allows pick plays if they are cleverly run). the worst rule is the defenseless receiver one. let the defender murder the guy as long as he doesn't lead w a head or elbow, or target the head. rod woodson was the greatest DB of all time

i've read quite a bit about how girl's sports have much much higher injury rates than men's sports. It seemed to be attributed to women having different (less robust) bodies than men, but that's impossible because women and men are equal and caitlyn jenner is a bravery winner as a women in sports, and she won the men's decathlon, so deal with it bigots. -
edmunds totally sucked at first but by the end of the season he was good, and showed some of his big play making ability. he's gonna be a monster this year.
-
Ya, he was good in the one year, sure, but not playing due to injury is a bust. There is some kind of upside to being a psycho or kinda dull in football IMO. Smart and a maniac makes you even more effective, but those traits combined w talent are pretty rare. Smart and insane is basically erry coach.

reminds me of a DE who was first overall pick to the browns a while ago, lavar arrington was 2nd over all (both went to penn state). 1st pick was young, graduated engineering, hard working, oodles of talent, but was a bust out in the NFL. I think some aspect of being smarter/higher IQ (or some correlated factor) does not mix well w the pain and brutality of the NFL. I think a smart guy who is insanely competitive, or possibly some kind of psycho, will be very effective, but a normal smart guy won't just soldier on in the face of enough pain/adversity.

historically, an engagement ring was given by the groom to the bride as a promise. if the engagement were to be broken off, she could keep the ring as she would have a much harder time getting married so at the least for her loss of honor she would keep the ring which she could sell to support herself as she had no husband to do so for her. we are in an odd (unsustainable?) time where culturally some of the old rules don't apply and some of them still do. it makes me unsure if she should have to give back the ring or not. makes the custom of handing out an engagement ring seem anachronistic as we have gotten rid of dowries. diamonds are such a huge scam anyhow. it's just disgusting.

Would you trade a 1 for Zeke?

if i were the bills, i would not. we have plenty of firepower at RB and need money to resign or sign other top talents if they come available. for some other team, i think it could be worth it. maybe pittz, NO, Jax. a team that would get a lot better with a super star RB and who may have a play off team draft pick. all that said, a first is still on the high side. maybe a 2nd makes more sense because you don't get a nice rookie wage year in there, but if I'm NO, or Philly, and i think i'm on the verge of (another) chip, i go for it. -
exactly, makes me wonder how so few teams have figured it out.
-
the one thing that i see as interesting out of all of this is the comment about allen doing easier stuff out of shotgun. for the longest time the rule in the NFL is you need to play under center to be a real QB and have success, but more and more (pats especially) you see good offenses just opt for easy mode; spacing out the D, simple pre snap reads, shotgun looks, quick passes, basically playing advantage all the time. dabo has some pats roots, so it makes sense he likes this idea of O, but it is kinda shocking that more teams don't make the game easier for their players like the pats always seem to do.

i suspect the starting 5 will be dawkins, spain, morse, ford, ty. some flex around ty being healthy, and long/feliciano maybe stepping in for ford/spain, but i think for opening day it is more likely that ford sees the bench than spain, as they would groom ford up for tackle and one of the other two is likely a better guard at this point. also, if a tackle goes down, ford will be filling in one of those spots, while lg to rg we have 4 or 5 guys we can roll with. nice posts in this thread gunner.

Rishard Matthews and the modern NFL player

LOL@ your opinion comment. you have an opinion about if NFL athletes are paid enough, and yet you call 48% a tiny percentage, and don't have a 7 year old with a lemonade stand's understanding of profit and revenue. I bet all your other awesome opinions are equally well informed. -

tre edmunds will have a chance to show that he can live up to all his potential. I'm setting myself up for sadness, but i expect a 3-0 start to the season
