7-9 and on the way up!

we lost the last two weeks on a number of bad individual plays and horrible special teams. edmunds did have a shot at a hero tackle that would have cemented the win, but missed. if we hit one of the two missed FGs, covered one or two of the big returns, or cought one or two of the big drops we would have won. Allen clearly cost us with 3 turnovers, but he also literally produced all of our offense, so i think the rest of the team had more room to step up.

so i agree that JA17 has accuracy issues. he's not like alex smith who just can't throw a dime, he just throws bad balls from time to time. that said, how many times has he avoided a sure sack but sprinting away from pass rushers or stiff arming them? he did it at least two times vs the jets (with the sprint out and the stiff arm, and i think about 6). most good qbs make the majority of their completions on easy peasy passes. now allen certainly misses some of them due to running to early or not seeing the guy in time, but as a team we set our qb (any of them) up to fail more than anyone else. i remember a big completion with 20 yards to go a couple times vs the jets. how do we keep doing that? the constant penalties on O and WR drops (combined with how terrible our run game has been) makes me marvel that we are even in games, and that's totally on the back of Josh Allen's ability to just flat out make plays that no one else is doing. one single star WR would change this whole offense, let alone better protection.

we have our QB, so we don't need the one guy to change it all, and the chances of us getting that guy with the higher pick are low anyhow. I'd be happy winning out, growing the team and getting our young guys better. we need vets to come in as FA signings, and winning will help that.

two interior OL and a RT would make our Oline solid, which is plenty. We need at least one new TE (two likley), a stud WR, and a large possession WR, as well as RB. the biggest holes on our team are at skill position, followed by OL. we could use a CB and DT as well. the one "good thing" about having a talent level as low as we do, is that adding even OK and average players will make the whole team better. Our special teams shows horrible coaching, but also how low the over all talent level on the team is. could you imagine allen playing with a less worn out shady, karlos, our old LT, richie, woods, as well as percy, rob woods, and sammy watkins like in rex's first year here? we just need to get some talent out there, guys who can get separation and most importantly not drop passes all the time. of course, all of the above blows up if a top flight pass rusher is available at our pick, we take that and work out the rest.

tyrod is a better sprinter, accelerates faster, but allen has a higher top speed. long striders are worse in the phone booth, but better in the open field.

I had a hot take in this thread (kinda sad it wasn't quoted in the big funny post roll :/), where i said it would go like how Watson went, but i was also hoping Allen (and i'm still sticking my FavrElway tag) wouldn't get hurt. In my hubris of being right and righteous, i was struck down by jinxing Allen to an injury. I'm sorry fellow Bills Faithful, I hope you can find it in your red white and blue hearts to forgive me, love the sinner hate the sin and all that.

he's a crappy 40 runner. not a powerful start, not a compact guy out of the blocks. as said above, he's a long strider, once he gets up to speed he's obviously really fast, i am still surprised to see he was like top 5 fastest in the nfl a couple times. one thing about him, and guys like kaep, is that he's such a natural athlete that while he cannot make sudden changes of direction like barry sanders, he sets up defenders so that he can move away from them (or leap right over them). this works for a long legged guy because one well timed stride puts him out of reach for the defender. he'd make a bad RB, but i honestly think he could be a good WR at the nfl level.

I'd so love to see this happen. The bills would break every franchise record for passing, scoring, running, TOP, turnovers gained, sacks, and Yards for and against. Part of it is because of the way the bills play. We are still goofy on O, but on D the team plays with a ton of emotion, and has a great secondary. Tom Brady didn't get a TD pass on us when the D was in top form, and that was with a disaster pretending to play QB, Tua may end up being an NFL great one day, but today ain't that day. He'd be confused by the coverage, and would be shell shocked by getting smashed up on every drop back.

he and the texans are playing well, but we really shoulda beat them. peterman, god he sucks

what gets me excited about the D is that we really do not have that much talent on D. we obviously have some key bits who make a big impact (houghs, Tre, less consistently but Edmunds and Milano), but this is a compliment of players playing in a well coached scheme. the wheels have fallen off a couple times (first 6 quarters were on pace to be as bad as our O is), but if you throw all the data together, we are still the best D in the nfl wrt YPG. top 12 or so in points, and that's likely to be top 8 or so by the end of the season.

jeez, the hallmark card moralizing is in overdrive today. yeah, sounds like he had a rough life. so do millions of others, but they don't all think they are above everyone else and just pss away their lives and a small fortune. the point made is that "maybe other people who are good would not be good if they had a tough life". sure, there may be some truth to that, but this guy was DEFINITELY was not good after his tough life. not good is not good.

Why, because he's dead? Truth is truth, dude. he made bad decisions and was pretty horrible to people.

ypp is a solid stat, we are top 3 or so there. we have good over all safety play, one just disgusting CB in tre, and decent 2nd through 4th cb play. our pass rush has been decent over all, and our run D has been solid, just one really bad showing. our weakest positing has been LB, but with a lot of improvement shown there, and edmunds barely old enough to drive, there is a lot of upside. if allen never got hurt we'd be 500, maybe even with a flukey chance at being over 500.

it's a little over stated, but YPP is no joke. it's a very solid D and most def one of the best in the NFL. Say top 5 for sure. a little bit of explosion on O and better special teams play would make the bills a really tough out for anyone. i think the signs for 2019 look good. Allen turning into a stud would make this team pretty tough, assuming we stock up on talent in the draft and in FA next season.

Jets, Giants, Browns, Zona, 49ers, Raiders, colts, jags, lions, and green bay are all within 1 win of us. there are some 500 type teams who could also fall apart. our o has had the worst 9 games i've ever seen, and our special teams are junk, but the D has been nice and at times great. if josh comes back and lights a fire under the team, we could win teh second jets game, sweep miami, and even win one of detroit and jax. i gotta say, our raw raw rook allen brings a lot more to the table. i think his ability to be electric and make plays keeps us in games.

if we get to 500 over the next 4 games, and JA is not healthy to go in (conservatively, which you know will be the mantra) it will be pretty hard to put JA back in while the playoffs are still possible. if we are over 500 after 4 or 5, then its' a super hard decision. any other result and the just jam JA back in because playoffs don't look possible. all of that said, if allen is healthy and looks better and is learning well in practice, and if DA is not great but we are still winning (i really don't think he's gonna be as good as say, Orton was for us, so it's not like he's gonna put up crazy numbers) it's an easy thing to justify in the locker room, and given that corch benched tyrod for peterman, i think he'd err on the side of rolling with the rookie. its' also likely that if the O does better, someone else (shady, benji, whoever) is gonna step up large and will be seen as the reason for our winning, so we aren't in much danger of sitting our ticket to the playoffs in DA alone, so i don't see how JA doesn't get back in, and likely sooner. Personally i'd ride the hot hand cuz JA is so young and confident, but Mccorch has shown he likes to act rather then let it play out
