Americans are not well-represented in their government
Taro T replied to LA Grant's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
While theoretically such a proposal might increase the representation of individuals, really don't see it doing that effectively. Would expect a couple of the unintended consequences being that for issues that aren't strongly advocated by special interests that gridlock would increase (which isn't necessarily a bad thing) and for those issues that special interests do hold dear, the big guys now have an even greater advantage as they have the resources to lobby the larger # of Congresscritters now required to pass legislation. -

FYI Florida & NY currently have the exact same representation in the EC. -
But wouldn't waiting until US troops are actually gone be a BETTER hedge against the US reversing policy & provide a better opportunity to kill a few dozen enemies?

You have continually avoided the elephant in the room regarding this, whichis large states will see their representation increase to a greater degree than the states w/ 1 Congresscritter. Thisis a HUGE matter, and you continue to pretend you don't support that element of it. This would move the country closer to your stated goal of eliminating the EC and is a total non-starter. The fact that a 1,000+ member body will necessarily be unwieldly simply make this idea impractical in addition to being a non-starter w/ the western non-coastal states. -

Holy cow, you really truly believe the people reading what you write are dumber than tree stumps. You are the most disingenuous poster that's been on this board in a very long time; which is quite an accomplishment. You are not being "thoughtful;" you are exhibiting your duplicitousness. And if you truly believe that doubling or tripling the membership in the HoR will increase its effectiveness, then you are demonstrating that you've never been on a committee nor a BoD. -

Good job of TOTALLY ignoring the question that was asked of you. -

This proposal wouldn't have ANYTHING to do w/ a desire to alter the, presumably unfair in your eyes, balance between the large & small states representation in the Electoral College now would it? -
Yeah. Some of the other stuff they complain about may have merit, but really find it hard to complain about giving him a 24/7 security detail.

On your own property, you do have a right to drive a car. On public land, such as public roads & highways, people are granted the PRIVILEGE of driving. There is a difference between a right & a privilege. -
True. But from his perspective is it? Things keep going forward like they appear, he'll be forced to think for himself soon. That CAN'T be good. And is probably even a little scary too.

That's not the hypocritical part of the story. The hypocritical part is where she wrote him a recommendation letter after forcing him out for cause & signing an NDA to not disclose why he left. -

Why should that matter? She was very big on giving verbal support to the #metoo movement. Andisn't that what REALLY matters? What people SAY is far more important than what they DO. -
The President stated on March 20 "... The call had to do also with the fact that we will probably get together in the not too distant future." As this is now breathless breaking newsit appears that not one single reporter asked him where & when this would happen. Can't be bothered to worry about insignificant stuff like that when there are important matters such as decade old affairs to report on.

I'm waiting to see 45 come out in favor of something that EVERYBODY supports (4th of July, Mothers Day, casual Fridays, puppies?) just to watch the Never Trumpers come out against it.

Any thoughts on Trump stating that the US will be pulling out of Syria soon? Seems like an acknowledgement that GCC has things under control regarding ISIS & doesn't need US boots on the ground. CNN was apoplectic. No one here (assuming she meant CNN) nor in the WH saw this coming. Was he lying about never telegraphing military moves or is he lying about this or both.

Any other developments on this?. Haven't seen additional coverage. CNN too busy w/ "storm" coverage to report on this. -

FTFY. And the kids won't disappear when school shootings stop; they'll disappear when their puppeteers find a more useful face of their issue du jour. -
Though, back to your original Q, the "Was x the right move" threads seem to be the equivalent of the "Have you checked out y" threads. But there seems to be 30 of the x threads and only 3 of the y threads. So, as the multiplier effect clearly would indicate, this has always been the saner board.

Is the situation in Iran that dire for the Mullahs that they need to provoke a shooting war to get the Russians to intercede? Or is this a last gasp of some Yemini bad actors? This doesn't make sense to this (too) casual observer. -
