Obama, Hezbollah, Cocaine, Iran Deal
Taro T replied to B-Man's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
A pass w/ the public, very doubtful. A pass w/ their buddies, quite possibly. Which is why something to the effect of the bolded would be necessary. And as I'd stated earlier, not sure if an agreement/ condition such as that would remainin effect after a pardon was granted. -

Pretty sure Marv Albert went right back to work for NBC after he got out of jail. These people have powerful friends that would be fine w/ bringing them back after something else becomes the news du jour. Thisis still America & they'll find folks that would allow them to show they've reformed if they aren't explicitly barred from returning. -

Provided there is also some sort of lobbying/government employment ban associated w/ the plea deal, that would probably be the best option. Not sure that ban would survive after the pardon though. Will leave answering that to someone more versed in Con Law. -

Absolutely, if this stuff is true that question has to get asked and answered. Absolutely hate the idea that some (heck, any) are above the law & maybe the people that were bright enough to bring this into the open (again if it turns out to be true) can figure out how to punish the transgressions without fundamentally changing our republic. But not sure that our current leaders are up to that task. If they aren't, is it better to have the crimes brought to light but not punished (similar to the way South Africa ended apartheid) as a teaching & concilliatory gesture or is it better to punish them all & let the chips fall where they may. Don't have that answer. -

Even if these accusations turn out to be true, they'd be entering truly uncharted territory by indicting a former President. Not sure whether that would be the right way to go as it would seriously undermine our tradition of peaceful transfer of executive power. Feel similarly about potential indictments agai nst the last Democrat chosen to run for the general election. We're in a real bad place if 1/2 these accusations pan out. But it truly is fascinating reading. -
True. But in the British sense, it's also a meal.

Oh, come on. What good, hard core, rich democrat unhappy about his/her federal taxes going up wouldn't want to double down and guarantee they get audited, pay those same taxes (eventually) along w/ penalties and interest and if they do it often enough also face criminal charges?. Looks win/win from here.

Down to Four - Which Team Are You Rooting For and Why?

Vikes. Them beating (preferrably) the Marrone led Jags at home would be sweet. Beating the more likely opponent - the Cheatriots, would also be good thoygh it would mean we had to watch Belicheat & crew 1 more week. If the Iggles beat the Vikes, the Go Iggles. -
Definitely going to be interesting. And, though it's always true that people should track down original sources whenever possible, with this story it seems that'll be even moreso the case. Expecting a lot of dissonance between what gets reported & what's actually happening. Regardless of whos ox is being gored.

The Media's Portrayal of Trump and His Presidency
Taro T replied to Nanker's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
According to Senator David Perdue (who wasin the meeting), Senator Dick Durbin is the leaker & President Trump didn't say what Durbin claims he did. Senator Lindsay Graham saying that the President "basically" said what Durbin claims makes your assumption extremely plausible. -

Hypothetical - If Peterman won the game
Taro T replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Most likely. But Taylor gives 'em a 5% chance of winning. Peterman? Does anyone put it even at 1%? -
2 1st Round QBs or Trading up for 1
Taro T replied to Ittakestime's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Your point's clear as well. But having 2 1st rounders back in '89 gave the Pokes the same issues that people are stating would occur by drafting 2 1st round QB's this year. -
Hypothetical - If Peterman won the game
Taro T replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
IF Peterman had tied it & then won in OT, provided Taylor cleared concussion protocol soon enough to get worthwile practice in, I'd still have expected Taylor to get the start. Foxboro is a lot tougher place to play than a soccer stadium or Jacksonville. Really expect that Belichick would've eaten Peterman alive & that McDermott would want to have had a guy that's won in Foxboro calling the signals. -
2 1st Round QBs or Trading up for 1
Taro T replied to Ittakestime's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not a huge one. That forfeited 1st rounder In '90 would've been the #1 overall due to their '89 1-15 season. They drafted 2 QBs they considered worth 1st rounders in '89 & ended up spending high 1st round picks on both. -
2 1st Round QBs or Trading up for 1
Taro T replied to Ittakestime's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In '89 the Pokes took Aikman in the 1st & Walsh w/ the equivalent of a 1st in the supplemental draft. My preference would be to use the 2 1sts to move up & get Mayfield if possible. If not, stay put & use 1 1st on best available QB.
