  1. Same here. Go for the 1 boners and the wife likes the 2 boners. Makes for a happy marriage.
  2. Pensions used to be a good thing where both the employee and employer had skin in the game. The employee took a lesser salary to have income post retirement and the company funded the plans adequately. Nowadays, most of the few pension plans that remain are essentially stealing from future owners of the company as the pension funds are oftentimes not fully/ adequately funded to provide for the defined benefits that are promised the employee. Defined contribution plans don't have that issue. The employee and employer each contribute what they've agreed to do and future owners/shareholders & employees aren't on the hook for covering for what didn't get done. And, by maxing out contributions to the plan, employees can take control of their own retirement and not be at the mercy of a company declaring bankruptcy. (Fully realize that people can be in situations where they can't contribute much to the 401k, but they can also often change those circumstances. Not much they can do if the company pulls the rug out from under them.)
  3. No love for Buffalo's own Kevin O'Connell hosting "Go?"
  4. The mayors & governors are on record as supporting the protesters. Presumably they are opposed to the destruction of their biggest cities. If both positions are held by them, and it seems that for the most part protests during daylight hours are peaceful & nighttime protests are anything but peaceful; then wouldn't it make sense that they'd support & enact curfews?
  5. Considering we've been told for 4-11 years just how transparent & scandal freeTM the past administration was; shouldn't the Democrats WANT the results of these investigations be made public prior to the election? Wouldn't exoneration goose turnout of their voters? Unless, of course, they have reason to believe there aren't going to be exonerations ...
  6. Over on Scott's Sabres board my suggestion was that whoever owns that parking garage overlooking the baseball field needs to remove the curtains obscuring the views of the field & make a killing. Pettibones should be able to make a killing as well.
  7. It certainly seems to be going that way. And if the current hot spots wind down in the next couple of weeks & the original ones don't re-surge then we'll know there's something to that theory. And IMHO that theory being right will go a long way towards forcing the schools to reopen and only go virtual for limited times if the area they're in get hit hard. (Personally, expect they could stay open through a surge, but politically there is absolutely no will to do so.)
  8. Let's hope that one passes scrutiny when it gets peer reviewed.
  9. My hope is that he ended up with enough money to buy the WaPo.
  10. Hoping that is true (that there really were only 14 COVID deaths in FL yesterday). But what is Cardillo's source. Not seeing that claim ANYWHERE else.
  11. Am saying the people that were in charge should have done better. (And, as you know, per the way our government is set up, those that were legally in charge were in those positions.)
  12. Until they've actually been tested and shown to be effective & without significant adverse side effects, we BELIEVE we have them. And, until we actually have them, we don't have them.
  13. Umm, the Navy Hospital Ship arrived on March 30. You really think that nobody in the NYC medical community could've figured out the logistics of using it for care of hospital discharged nursing home patients that were still contagious within 2 - 3 WEEKS? IMHO somebody should've been able to figure that out in that sort of a time frame. Had they started using that ship (or other available facilities) to house them by the 15th-20th they could've saved 1,000's of lives. Not giving them flack for making poor decisions in the heat of the moment. But at some point the leaders have to step back and say 'holy ####, we have to rethink what we're doing.' And that can't happen 1-1/2 months after assigning death sentences to the most vulnerable IMHO.
  14. The original plan as of when the ship docked was to use the hospital ship to take non-COVID patients so the COVID patients could be kept together and non-COVID patients wouldn't come in contact with it. No data on why that plan flipped. News reports made it seem like that was an 'oops' on the part of the people running logistics but don't know that that was the case. Also don't know why neither the ship non convention center was utilized in any meaningful way. But would really know to know why that was.
  15. A couple more comments like that and ALL of upstate will turn on him. (We won't be able to get rid of all D run government at the state level, but maybe we could get a different gov. C'mon Andy, talk trash about beef on weck and Zweigels too. Double dog dare ya.)
  16. The hospital ship was supposed to be for NON-COVID patients, but they were sent COVID patients anyway, so that plan changed and there were several hundred available beds for nursing home patients on the ship. (IIRC, only 77 patients went to the hospital ship & only 3 went to the Javits Center; which could've worked wonders to keep non-COVID Nursing Home patients COVID-free.)
  17. Agree with a lot of this. But, unless the plan is to drag out the virus spreading until after there is a vaccine (which could be available anytime between Friday and never) eventually a complete lockdown will end and the virus will spread through the population when the lockdown ends. We delay the inevitable, but don't prevent it. And if the idea is to get to "herd immunity" then lockdown the vulnerable tightly & don't lockdown the rest until the heavy transmission starts & then lockdown just enough to keep from overwhelming the healthcare system in that particular area. Try to keep the transmission rate manageable. If the goal is something else other than 1 of the 2 extremes, state it explicitly and let people know what the plan is to reach THAT goal. And getting back to Cuomo, won't criticize him for decisions made in March; but by mid-April at the latest he needed to rescind that Nursing Home directive. He still had the Navy Medical Ship & the converted Javits Center available both sitting nearly empty to use as temporary housing for the nursing home residents to stay after they were well enough to leave the hospital but were still contagious. How many lives would've been saved changing that order 3-4 weeks earlier than it was? And the subways were handled about as poorly as possible- they cut down on the # of trains running, crowding the remaining riders into tighter spaces but didn't stop train service at any hours to allow for ACTUAL disinfection rather than simply wiping them down for a few minutes at night. The disinfection via UV should've been happening by April 15 as well. Really expecting we'll find in hindsight that what finally slowed the spread in NYC was they'd already reached / approached herd immunity after having it rage through for close to 2 months. Would explain why LA & other major cities are getting hit hard now, but with similar behavior by its residents that NYC isn't seeing a 2nd wave commensurate to these other places initial waves.
  18. Hmmmm, BladieBlah doesn't like others scoring political points off of the increase in the NYC crime rate. If only there were a way to keep people from making a big deal of increasing crime rates? Perhaps not implementing policies that can easily be predicted to cause crime rates to increase? Nah, too easy.
  19. It figures that you would prefer to have go past your chosen route & cut across oncoming traffic 3 times rather than simply turn right where it's appropriate. Astounding.
  20. The freedoms to deface others' property, the freedom to destroy public property, & the freedom to assault others for starters.
  21. That sounds about right. Good luck w/ it.
  22. Ra-cha-cha. Would assume those others as well.
  23. Teams are able to rent ice starting this weekend. So, they're pick up games for adults, but it beats no hockey.
  24. Hockey rinks are opening back up in those areas of NYS that were in the 1st regions to enter Phase 4.
