  1. And that is one of the most absolute frustrating things about the lockdowns and the media & political frenzy about the BLM protests. (Not to imply that the lockdowns & protests are related.) But while we are watching wide swaths of the cultural guardians giving extreme lip service to the concept that the lives of black Americans are far more important than we politically historically make them these same guardians are sitting idly by as policies that will disproportionately hurt black children are being contemplated and shortly will be implemented. And not 1 friggin' word from any of them. Not that we needed any more, but this is unquestionably proof that the people pushing this narrative so hard don't actually believe it. If they did, they'd be up in arms. Sooooo frustrating.
  2. Sadly, compared to the bulk of her coworkers, she probably IS conservative.
  3. Isn't she one of those DA candidates that Soros backed heavily?
  4. You know, you could've just said it was written by Jennifer Rubin & saved everybody time.
  5. Don't know what the answer is, but definitely believe our nation should do something. Sanctions of some sort seem to be called for. Hopefully our response to this is greater than simply having the First Lady make pouty faces with a sign #BringOurUighersBack.
  6. It was worse than just that. She threw away the E's and 3's as well.
  7. There's anecdotal evidence that young people with COVID get some weird clotting disease in their lungs which apparently causes lifelong scarring & reduced lung function. Haven't seen any studies yet determining whether that's due to COVID or merely associated with COVID. Also haven't seen how prevalent those cases are. Nor, how they've determined the damage is "permanent" though if the scarring is very bad could see them analogyzing it to other traumatic lung damage. That one seems to be a major reason those that don't want schools opening back up use to justify their position. If they ever had more than anecdotes, maybe there'd be reason to give it credence. But so far, haven't seen hard data and would expect that to be a major issue in places like Sweden that didn't shut down schools if it were a true major side effect. But we didn't see it.
  8. Very good question. If it isn't an error or just something with the way the charts are drawn, pretty sure it is the top of the error bar for the range of how many deaths would be expected at any given point in time. Once the total deaths exceed the confindence interval for what had been expected (aka they're outliers) is when they're considered "excessive."
  9. Thank you for posting that. Glad that you had the fortitude to make it. Truly hope we find a way to instill your attitude in more people that with a lot of effort that success can come. We as a society can and should do better to let people have that hope, but at the end of the day it has to come from within.
  10. In HINDSIGHT, yes, all flights from China should've been halted on NYD & all flights from Europe on 1/31. In real time, 45 caught serious flack for halting travel from China at the end of January & nobody knew how bad things were going to get in Italy & Spain then either. MAYBE he could've shut down travel from Europe earlier in March, but that's reviewing with the benefit of hindsight & can't see any way travel from there would've been shut down in February. Can't really blame anyone (but the CCP) for decisions this winter, but by mid-April some rules such as forcing NYS nursing homes to admit residents with COVID should have been rescinded. And the deaths caused after that due to rules like it fall squarely on the decision makers' shoulders.
  11. The article said that 10 residents could have visitors at a time at a 100 home facility. But a home like that would have to have at least 2 areas for visitors to meet residents as only 10 total people could be in 1 area at a time.
  12. Ummm, that was LITERALLY out of AOC's mouth.
  13. That or they are setting the stage for more than 10 unarmed black suspects to be shot & killed annually by police. Because, if the officer fears for his/her life and they can't dare put a knee on the suspect's back, would expect the gun will come out of its holster pretty quickly.
  14. It seems the theory is that to reach herd immunity you need to have ~80% of the population exhibit resistance to catching/transmitting the virus. Initial theories were that because this virus is "novel" that nearly 0% of the population would be naturally resistant to it and you'd need 70%+ of the population to be exposed to it to reach herd immunity. There are now studies (no idea whether they are valid) estimating that up to 70% of the population may have a natural resistance to the virus due to exposure to other coronaviruses over their lives. My guess is that is an overly optimistic estimate. But there are studies that suggest in the places that had major hot spots, such as Milan or NYC, that ~20% of the population was exposed to the point of contracting the virus. NYC also doesn't seem to be having a 2nd wave despite the fact that there were thousands of people out at the protests. So, maybe that 20% is accurate and also maybe NYC has reached the mythical herd immunity. If so, it would seem ~60% of the population is naturally resistant. If the 20% is the true threshold we need to reach herd immunity, then these new areas having their 1st wave is a good thing as they'll get to that level sometime in the next few weeks. And those areas should be in decent shape in the fall. IF those assumptions are valid, then it's those of us that live rurally that haven't seen the 1st wave yet that will have to deal with this in the fall when the normal flu season starts. Hard to say about any of it because there is so much BS getting floated from both directions. Thanks @Magox @SoCal Deek and even @shoshin for bringing us data that seems to be more reliable than a lot of it.
  15. 45%. Yeah, that's about what Biden will get in "mail in" voting isn't a thing.
  16. Thought it was in this thread, but that was reported at least 2 weeks ago if not more like a month ago. Can't prove protests lead to anything but sunshine & kittens if nobody can find out if anyone was actually at a protest. (It's science.)
  17. Again, we'd be crazy to completely pull out of the UN. Get off some of it's more ridiculous committees - absolutely do it. But leave the general assembly and the security council - nfw.
  18. Let's hope.
  19. No, it's surprising they came after the mayor as early as they did. Had the pinheads not come after her directly yet, she would've blithely stayed in support of their destruction and terrorism of the locals. They made the same mistake Hitler made - he went after his ally that he hated before he'd defeated the enemies he hated. Fortunately, these sort of ####### always seem to make that same mistake. More proof there is a God. (Not that these pinheads were going to win this in the end. The city shutting off power & internet would've had them quitting within a day, but they could've held out for quite a while longer.)
  20. RIP to one of the greats. His passing reminds of one of the greatest mysteries in the world. How in the world did somebody with such an exquisite sense of humor father such a humorless self aggrandizing 'meathead?' Condolences to the entire Reiner family on his passing.
  21. We did. We allowed our schools and universities to deteriorate to the point that THESE people matriculate.
  22. Knew that nursing homes still aren't allowing visitors (which must be great for the mental health of the residents ), but was referring to the order that they had to accept COVID positive residents. Thought that ended May 5.
  23. Sadly, yes.
  24. Related: Why oh why is NY Governor Andrew Cuomo being praised for his coronavirus response? Governor Andrew Cuomo does not deserve kudos for his COVID-19 policies. He put the elderly at great risk. The nursing home mandate was in effect until June 10? Thought that was rescinded May 5 when the order to actually start sanitizing the subway happened too.
