  1. I was following the same MO until I clicked the link - there was no "sullivan" in the link as it usually has been. Perhaps they've caught on and are doing that to add 'clicks' to his articles?
  2. FYI, most 3-4 defenses run a 4-3 when they are against nickel personnel. Most of the teams have been in Nickel or the Bills have played nickel with McGee, Florence and McKelvin
  3. For a 350 lb man, walking on crutches is darn near a requirement with any sprain...
  4. You're right about the number. The only available numbers for him @ WR are 12 and 83. So there's that. And they're signing him so that the guys they want to use during the season don't get blown up or injured doing too many reps in practice/pre-season games.
  5. Don't forget that at the time Marshawn was in trouble, and his agent threw out the "Bills don't really invest in character guys" zing into the media. And he was an ERFA so he had nowhere else to go other than back to the Bills. Compare him to say A train when he got here and I think he got paid a bit more.
  6. It's disappointing, but his agent was dumb enough to get that deal. He's 30 and to pay him more money isn't the best thing to do for a back..
  7. And the Steelers liked him, drafted him, cut him and then now on the second team's cut, tried to re-claim him. I think we've moved on, particularly with Batten and Coleman being healthy.
  8. He tweaked his ankle early in camp and has tweaked it occasionally since that happened.
  9. That too is a fantastic point. If you look at his receivers, they really are mostly no-names or complementary guys...
  10. A few of the pubs that came out when Levitre was drafted said his best position might have been the only one he didn't play (center). Perhaps they're working him there with the thought that if Rinehart shakes out as a good guard he could LG, Levitre C and Wood RG...just a thought.
  11. I think it behooves the NFL to hold off on the Supplemental draft, because they're probably going to add 15-20 kids in a week...Good Lord. How is it Cole can come into town and blow this stuff up but the NCAA can't find a darn thing?
  12. One thing about Gaither though Coach is that from college he's been hounded with a lack of work ethic and having some "dog" in him. If he becomes their LT and they regress because he doesn't rehab his back right, they're in bad shape... I agree with you re: Stinchcomb though. If they bring him in however, he's not the best at recovering at times in pass pro, but that may be from the injury...
  13. To help the poster that wasn't aware - there are tons of tips that a team is in man/zone. Typically, watch for a receiver in motion most of the time. Some OCs like pre-snap motion in to see if a guy is trading or following the player. Also, if it's one high (one safety) or two high, how the corners are spaced, how the linebackers line up (particularly in a tampa or pro cover 2). So yes, there are ways and OC didn't pull this outta his/her keister.
  14. Greetings Bills Fans, I am not much of a poster nowadays, but since I love going to camp and love running into BLM, I figured I’d post some thoughts about what I saw at camp. I was able to attend the practices on the 5-8th and instead of going over each minute detail (especially days after the fact) I’d go over weird observations I thought I would want as a Bills fan that is out of town. First, size. Buddy and co were right in terms how much bigger some of the players have gotten! I think in particular Troup, Carrington, Levitre, Bell and Wang stood out in that regard. So much so that newer players like Hairston stood out for their lack of girth, particularly in the legs. Even Kelsay looks like he’s lost a little weight in the stomach and gained a little up top in his chest, which as a vet buying in (despite thoughts on his ability by some) is very helpful for the program. Secondly, leadership. I don’t know if Chris Brown has mentioned this a lot, but there are guys on both sides of the ball taking ownership of the team. On offense, it was Wood. In particular, during the 8th of August’s practice, where the defense particularly got good pressure, Eric was in the face of the 2nd and 3rd teamers telling them to hold their ground vs their defensive counterparts. He wasn’t all bark however; after the team portion was finished, he would go up to the linemen in question and give him a tip or two on how to counter whatever the defense did. On defense, Merriman’s help has been well documented. But Dareus has been very helpful in particular to big Mike Jasper. Whenever they have a spare second, Marcell is busy showing Big Mike how to have his hands placed when on the line and the importance of his punch and “locking out” the arms as a 2 gap defensive lineman. Jasper has been soaking it up and seems to be getting better; only time (and live fire) will tell. Third, seeing some of the new pieces in place is very intriguing. Brad Smith to me is a player that will be a “glue guy”. He may not get 1,000 yards rushing or receiving, but I think best case for him would be about that, maybe more in total yardage. In the short time I was there at practice he would do everything from being solely a QB, to playing slot WR, to Wildcat QB and then working on being a returner as well as a gunner on ST. Obviously whatever Chan’s got in store for him in a game-time regard will remain under wraps for a while, but the preview we as fans were afforded was enough to get me excited. Finally, coaching. I know lament that George Edwards is the dc, but I think he will make some moves this year with the personnel. In particular with the Psycho package they used on the 8th (similar to the “Creep” of years gone by) in which he has Williams and Dareus on the field with 4 linebackers and 5 dbs. A lot of movement, a lot of chaos and it was the cause of a lot of the offensive struggles on Monday. Especially with a 300+ pounder like Carrington in there to replace Kelsay, that was a lot of speed/size to deal with in a very short time. On offense, Chan seems to be his usual self, using a good bit of stack slot receivers and giving a nod to the speed on his team, with some of those formations featuring CJ, Fred, Lee, Roscoe and Stevie together at the same time. By nature I’m an optimist, heck maybe a full on homer (gasp!) but I truly believe this staff can get it done. As soon as I return home, I’ll post pictures that I took over the time I’m there. Big thanks to Thoner7 who provided me with a night practice ticket! Go Bills!
  15. That's a good point. I was able to get the stats end from Pro Football Reference, but I haven't found a place where I could chart it...anyone know where that may be?
  16. Morning y'all. I was driving to work today and on the Sirius Opening Drive, Former Bill Ross Tucker spent a good 2-3 minutes talking about how the Giants, Raiders and Bills needed a TE. I know we as fans have mentioned that a ton, but to hear it from Ross got me to thinking - how much has Chan actually used a TE in his offense outside of Buffalo? The first example I thought of was the Chiefs and T-Gonz's monster year. That turns out to be the outlier as you'll see below: Team Year Player Catches/Yards/TDS Denver 89 - Kay 21/197/0 Mobley 17/200/0 Denver 90 - Kay 29/282/0 Mobley 8/41/0 Sharpe* 7/99/1 Pittsburgh 96** - Bruener 12/141/0 Hayes 2/14/0 Pittsburgh 97** - Bruener 18/117/6 Dallas 98*** - LaFleur 20/176/2 Dallas 99*** - LaFleur 35/322/7 Miami 00 - Goodwin 6/36/1 Miami 01 - Goodwin 4/27/0 Weaver 18/215/2 Chiefs 08**** - Gonzales 96/1058/10 Cottam 7/63/0 *Bear in mind that in 90, Shannon was being used as an H-Back/WR/TE type and wasn't really integrated in the offense. **Slash was a favorite toy of Chan's in these years in Pittsburgh, but note how the TE in the second year had a 6 more catches, but yielded 6 TDs. ***In Dallas Chan used Deion as a receiver and kick returner, but LaFleur's catches much like in Pitt jumped up in year 2, as did his TD total ****In his only major outburst of TE prodcution, he had a HOF TE and a great WR in Bowe, who snagged 86/1022/7. They were responsible for at least 80 percent of the receptions on the team that year. So, based on what he's done and the numbers behind it, Chan can use a TE. He chooses not to, and as a result I'm intrigued as to which TE this year will have that year 2 jump he has had in the past, as opposed to any FA TEs we may or may not pursue. Thoughts?
  17. I sent one a sec ago as well Thoner, only if you have one to spare?
  18. It's 99% this year, then 95% in 2012 and finally 89% in 2013. Clayton's confused..
  19. They've been playing a lot more 4-3 than 3-4 in the last 4 years. So this fits and makes it even easier for them to do so.
  20. According to Jason La Canfora on NFL network tonight, the Falcons anticipate the Bills and Seahawks to target Clabo in FA. So there ya go.
  21. Do that many people really believe that Chan's that two-faced and that Wannstedt may not actually want all the responsibility of a HC/DC? It isn't conceivable at all Wanny wanted a stress free coaching position (with the added title and pay of assistant HC) that allows him to just coach guys up and not deal with the craziness of politicking to be a HC again? I can tell you from his time at Pitt, he thought that was going to be the job he retired on. He was burned out after Ricky and after being fired at Pitt the Bills job may be a breather where he can just be a coach and not a booster, or a recruiter or a head coach. JMO.
