  1. Not even sure Housley returns next year we are so bad.
  2. Double ugh. Don't want Smith if you have to trade picks to get him and Rudolph is an average arm, below average decision making fella with superior wr corp in a bad defense conference.
  3. He's not that good. Okay arm, not great decision making, several pros in his wr corp in a conference that doesn't play defense. OTOH, he might be there in the second round.
  4. I'll grant that the folks who liked Orton will swoon over Smith.
  5. It's a plausible scenario, I suppose. Alex Smith will be 34 next season. I'd be alright signing him if we also drafted a potential franchise qb, but I don't think he's anything more than a better bridge qb. I really doubt the fanbase would be enthused about the notion of Alex Smith for the next four to five years. It might work, but I am skeptical.
  6. I liked this post until you mentioned Alex Smith.
  7. The latter is about as likely as the Bills beating the Pats*.
  8. Imo, where the OP has the most cogency is in regards to securing a franchise qb. It's the most important position in football and we don't have one. Losing enough to get Rosen or Darnold would have increased the chances the team is good for a long time. Obviously, you can find a franchise qb outside of the top picks, but it is harder. Also, if you have two mid to late first round picks, you probably end up having to package them if you want the third qb off the board. This is a problem when you have lots of holes. Once you have the franchise qb, then those who stress continuity and solid drafting no matter where you are picking are generally correct.
  9. Thanks. I was having trouble getting in the holiday mood.
  10. If that happens, I am going out and buying a lottery ticket.
  11. Yes, this is what I am expecting. But losing out isn't going to appreciably help our draft status and thus, somehow contribute to getting a true franchise qb. Hence, I am back to hoping for the improbable. Just almost impossible to even imagine beating the Pats* when I suppose they will still be trying because #1 seed remains in question. Dennison, Castillo, and Tyrod is not a combination that can get you sixty minutes of good offense.
  12. Yes, you need both. I'm on record in numerous posts I think Mayfield has the talent to be an NFL qb.
  13. That's too bad if so, because this team could use that kind of fire at the qb position.
  14. Add in the wr corps at OSU has a couple of future pros. Rudolph is my least favorite of the potential first rounders that get talked about. I'd rather take a chance that Allen will improve his accuracy and that is unlikely. Mayfield is the best feasible qb we should target, imo, because I don't see any way we can land Rosen or Darnold.
  15. Statistics have no effect on the quality of the actual draft class. Maybe this is the exception. We better hope so, because I can't see any rational way to grab Rosen or Darnold.
  16. Rudolph has a meh arm, a wr corps full of future pros in a conference that rarely plays defense. His decision making is suspect. Not at all impressed with him, so he is probably the fella we end up with.
  17. The world will end right before the Bills are about to win the SB, perhaps during the two minute warning. That would be the Billsy thing and supposedly God hates Buffalo. Oh, and I am a skeptic about McD, though its really too early. Have to see what he does with a revamped roster. I worry that he is Jauron 2.0.
  18. Interesting dialogue between you and Fadingpain. I certainly agree that the writing is pedestrian and much of the casting indifferent. I don't see how anyone would dismiss Alex Guinness as an actor and while Han Solo is a conventional character, Harrison Ford inhabits that character in an especially effective way. In my view, Star Wars taps into a mythic consciousness, so it's not a real negative to note deriviative sources. The original trilogy rises above the obvious limitations.
  19. That is confusing. In context, it seems like McDermott must be the moron, but I don't suppose that is intended. If this fella is on the level, and maybe he is, I'm not thrilled they apparently think Kirk Cousins is the answer.
  20. If he can't get healthy, maybe he's just done as a player. In that case, he obviously has no trade value and will just be a large cap hit going forward.
  21. This is completely on target. However, it is entertaining. I doubt it's true, btw, but who knows for sure? Only way I trade Glenn is if I am certain Dawkins can play LT and Glenn is the added piece that gets me Rosen or Darnold.
  22. Folks who like Mayfield don't agree with your judgement that he is JF2.0. Manziel was more interested in being a celebrity than a football player. Mayfield is immature, but he's also passionate about playing qb. I was pushing for OBD to pick Watson or Mahomes, btw. So I don't fully fit your scenario. It would be far preferable to draft Rosen or Darnold. I just doubt we can put ourselves in a position to get them. After that, everyone has bigger question marks. I think Mayfield will grow out of his antics and I rate his skill set considerably better than you believe it, i.e., I think it will translate to the NFL. I see a potential Brees where you see an idiot college qb with no future in the pros.
  23. Yes, I know about the cost. My skepticism was that you could pull off the deal, even with the expense. Throwing in Glenn actually makes it more plausible. It's just so many resources for a team with lots of holes and you add LT (or RT if Dawkins is a viable LT). But I am on the side of those who believe franchise qb trumps every other need by a wide margin. Just better get it right at that price.
  24. That's a king's ransom. I'd be surprised still, but I guess it's possible.
  25. You see Cleveland or the Giants trading out? I don't.
