  1. I am not a fan of Smith, but I do think he's an upgrade over Taylor. I would not invest a high draft pick to acquire him. He's only acceptable as a bridge qb, which means you better get the franchise qb in round one. Love your avatar, btw.
  2. Why? He's a great player. My favorite D player in the draft, though a DT like Hurst is probably just as important to improving the team. I really want a qb, but if it doesn't play out that we can acquire a franchise qb, R. Smith is a nice consolation prize.
  3. Yeah, one legit super bowl without cheating and blatant ref bias is worth more than 6 Kraft Wrestlemania titles.
  4. Yes, I agree. I've always been skeptical about Rosen or Darnold being available. Arguing cost is just in terms of an unlikely hypothetical. Identifying qb #3 and whether or not he is truly a potential franchise qb is crucial. He's a polarizing player. I like him quite a bit. Others like Rudolph who I am not keen on. Don't suppose anyone really knows though.
  5. I am guessing it takes the 3 #1's, a #2, and then at least another high pick and/or player combo. It will be very expensive. I like Darnold, but I don't think he's can't miss. Not sure anyone is. My top three are Rosen, Darnold, Mayfield in that order. Allen has off-the-charts arm talent, but lots of concerns. I would trade up and pay a significant price for Rosen or Darnold. I would make a more modest trade up to secure Mayfield. Talent is probably there this year, but there are a ton of teams wanting qb. I think we should have taken Watson or Mahomes last year, though there's no denying Tre White is a very nice player.
  6. I doubt that will get you to 4 and you very well could be picking qb #3.
  7. Funny, 'cause last year lots of folks were telling those of us pushing to take Watson or Mahomes that this was the year to take a qb. Somehow, it is never the right year.
  8. I never root for the AFC team. They are all the enemy. In this case, I dislike Marrone and I loathe the Pats*. I see no need to root for either. I'm supporting the Minnesota Vikings.
  9. Yes, I agree. Dan Fouts . . . man, I'm old. I graduated high school that year. Freezer bowl was really exceptionally cold; arctic really. I grant you need a superior qb to go outside the standard model answer. Seems to me we are due to get one and I am cautiously optimistic the current regime will aggressively seek to get a fella that will open up the playbook.
  10. That is the typical wisdom and one understands why folks think that. OTOH, Big Ben and Brady consistently seem to have prolific passing offenses in similar weather.
  11. Thanks. Another poster had a brief article/link confirming the Daboll-Belichick interest. I wasn't trying to express deep skepticism. Just wasn't sure what level of certitude should be attached the rumor. Lots of folks here do not seem enamored with the pick. I think generally a good qb can make most offensive schemes look at least reasonably good. So, I surmise how well we fill the qb position will determine a lot of Daboll's future success.
  12. I don't know if this is true. I heard this as speculation/rumor. I don't know much about the fella. His previous NFL OC experience was apparently limited by bad qbs. Nonetheless, his numbers are underwhelming. Qb/qb coach will determine much of his success or lack thereof.
  13. Well, I am sorry to exasperate you. Achievement without virtue is negligible, imo. I share your wrath towards the Pats**, though perhaps you are more vehement. Do you think they are not talented apart from cheating? I grant that one cannot really know how they would do without the extra help. I guess what I am suggesting is that they appear more contemptible to me, because I surmise they have talent. A bad team that cheats is almost understandable. A team that could achieve without it is sinister in a particularly appalling way.
  14. Godfather II is one of the greatest movies ever made. The Mission is a different kind of film from what DeNiro usually does, but I think it is quite powerful.
  15. I had stopped watching Patriots* playoff games, but made an exception with last year's super bowl (I live in Atlanta.) That was a joy. It really is like the Patriots* are the Harlem Globetrotters and everyone else is the Washington Generals. What is so exasperating is that without cheating and blatant favoritism, the Patriots are legitimately formidable. But it's got to be dismaying as an opponent to know that you are always playing the team and the refs. Seems like a tipping point should already have been reached where fans say the hell with it. It's just not fun to watch games where the entitled are always given a helping hand, made worse by the gloating charge of envy and dismissal of any wrong-doing by their boatloads of bandwagon fans.
  16. Jackson is not my favorite, but he is intriguing. I worry about him staying healthy. He seems very slight. Don't want him crushed like RG3.
  17. Aesthetics are difficult to debate, because taste is hard to adjudicate objectively. I like your avatar, but persist in my preference for today's uniform.
  18. Wouldn't want to pay more than a third for Smith. I'm fine with bringing him in so long as it doesn't mean we pass on qb in the first.
  19. People have nostalgia for that look because we won with them. Current unis are a lot better, imo.
  20. I like the throw backs with the standing buffalo, but the current unis are classy. Teams with good uniforms don't make big changes just to generate sales. Raiders uniforms will look good a hundred years from now. Best way to generate sales is to win football games.
  21. Is your source saying this or is this just speculation? I think he's an interesting choice.
  22. Ahh, it was a good joke until you brought facts in. Still don't think he's the OC I want developing whoever we draft to be qb.
