It's Time to Mandate Vaccines
leh-nerd skin-erd replied to The Frankish Reich's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
In most cities, there are an endless variety of polls touting “Best Double Decaf Latte Cold Brew!”, “Best Craft Brewery!” and “Best Late Night Taco!”. This is one of those polls, albeit on a larger scale. If we’re basing any model for the world on a vote some stoner casts at 3:30am after a day long bender, we probably should reevaluate our priorities. The Canadian dollar is beautiful though. I think they call it a krugerrand. -

This is why it’s best to draw the hard, non-negotiable and “We’re saving the world here” bold red line in pencil. -

I spend quite a bit of time there but I'm most definitely not an X and O guy. I try and read folks who are (or seem to be). I've also become a company man here--I trust Beane and McD to make choices, I don't worry a lick about salary cap, who gets paid or extended, or the play on a particular player. So, while I read the Edmunds post for example, my sense is that TE is viewed as very good player by the brain trust for the role he is expected to play. Stepping back a bit, the Bills have won 19 out of the last 24 games, made it to the AFC Championship and are fun to watch. I also am becoming a bit more emotional as I get older, I don't want to talk about guys who someone thinks stink, or who should be benched, it seems unproductive and mean-spirited. These are good damn times for the Bills faithful, and SB or not, I'm going to try and enjoy them.* I will though, mock your love of Barry Manilow music and your collection of Michael Bolton vintage vinyl if you like. Peace friend. *The other night, after what seemed like the 15th penalty of the first quarter on the Bills, I said to my son "This game's over." He's a much more rational fan and assured me it wasn't. I'm a work in progress for sure. -

Tim, while I’m a conservative leaning fellow but I don’t like to characterize things in that way. I get what you’re saying and from certain perspectives that’s probably true. I recall Savannah Guthrie interviewing Trump early on in the race and she pointed out how poorly he was doing in a poll and asked him about it. He replied that a very recent NBC poll had him leading the field and wondered why she didn’t mention that? She was flummoxed and stuttered some answer. He called her on her bs and that’s the best course of action to follow imo. I think we both agree you have to consider the source and the agenda. I think most reasonable lefty folk would agree as well. -

I was going to mention the Couric thing. RBG, whether one agrees with her politics or not, is one of the giants of American history. Her story is incredible and while she obviously stayed on too long, her place in history is secure (unless future generations choose to change it of course). Katie Couric is an accomplished and successful person. I don’t doubt her intellect, tenacity and based on recent stories, her willingness to crush anyone or anything in her way. At the same time, she’s famous for being able to listen to the voices in the earbud, recite scripts on a teleprompter and do so in a manner that appeals to a large segment of the population. To think she felt compelled to protect and censor RGB to save her is outrageous. In a time when we needed voices to be heard, and dialogue, she chose to become the arbiter of what people should hear. Katie Couric is a footnote in the pages of history, replaced and replaceable with another talking head in short order. Then again, I believe it was Couric who manipulated the 911 call from Geo Zimmerman to change the context of the conversation and wrote it off as a time saver. -

Rogan went ground and pound here with Dr. G. When the good doc tried to stand up and laugh it off, Rogan persisted, returned him to the mat, and commenced to wearing him down. When Dr G tried to blame the feds, Rogan returned to his actions and the actions of the networks. He would not be deterred. Rogan “I can afford people medicine, m#$&$#-f&$#@er!”. Classic, and the Doc never quite could convince himself to acknowledge the lie. -

There are pro-life Democrats, Pro-choice Republicans, and in that crazy Venn Diagram of life, Ds Rs and Is who are pro-choice to a point where the line crosses from a medical procedure to something barbaric. But really, in this case, seems there are a whole buncha Ds, Rs, and agnostics that don’t want the vax for any number of reasons. People are complicated. -

What an interesting dichotomy of approach by educators and the police for this young lady who refuses to wear a glorified Kleenex over her face and mouth, v the folks in Loudon County, Virginia. In Virginia, a young lady has accused another student of a violent sexual assault in a bathroom at the school, the school has been accused of trying to cover up the crime, and the school board had her father dragged out of a meeting for daring to raise the issue in a public forum. Then, the diocese school administrators chose to return the alleged rapist accused student to another parish school and apparently kept the accusations from parishioners parents and potential targets school children at risk, and reportedly, the accused student may have sexually assaulted yet another student at the new parish school. To get ahead of you on this one @B-Man, back to the topic: Here's a couple clips of Joe Rogan interviewing Dr. Sanjay Gupta about corona virus, young people, their parents and relative risk. I've heard Rogan on air previously, but I liked his approach here to get appropriate feedback from Dr. G. The first clip deals with youngster and their parents. The second clip deals with the very reason some people feel there are nefarious actors about with Gain Of Function research, the specific actions of key players, the WHO and others and fealty to China. It certainly bolsters the suggestion by the many anti-vax-shamers to 'shut up, get in line, and don't worry about nothin!'. https://citizenfreepress.com/breaking/joe-rogan-interviews-cnn-dr-sanjay-gupta-this-is-fantastic-tv/ -

I have come to realize that I wish I could take those approach to the game(s). It would make everything on game day more enjoyable, and less personal. That said, I would like to throw eggs at your house, and I hope you left a couple windows open. -
Or friend who was retired law enforcement told me one time that if the police invited him in to talk about a situation (where he was not and independent witness w/re to facts) he would decline and get an attorney. When I told him that surprised me, he said bluntly “They are investigating a crime, they are not your friends, and they are counting on you to speak freely. It’s almost always a mistake. If you’re innocent you should take advantage of your right to counsel to avoid confusion, if you’re not well all the more reason”. Sidebar…the same guy bought a really nice piece of property on a lake in the Adirondacks from a whiskey boozing alchy. He cleaned the place up, put a ton of money into it and put a fence in to block access to his lakefront that the prior owner didn’t care about. Soon, his place was getting vandalized, though no other vandalism occurred to the neighbors property. Fence busted. Grill flipped over. Trailer tires punctured. Lawn mower stolen. Tractor pushed into the lake. He called the police, they canvassed and turns out no one knew nothing. He thought that was odd. Eventually though, the same thing started happening to the neighbors around him. Tells me the police and a neighbor came over one day to inquire about tires punctured and damage to the neighbors trailer. My friend tells me he said “Man, that is crazy. People were vandalizing my stuff and nobody saw or heard anything. Now, it’s happening to you. That’s weird, huh?”. He told the police he would keep an eye out but was sorry he couldn’t help. Then he stopped, looked at me and said for emphasis, “What are the chances?”. He said that was pretty much the end of vandalism at the lake.

Rolling Stone should consider running a phony story about EC sexually assaulting someone. That's right in their wheelhouse and really moves product. It's really interesting to see these bastions of higher education melt down over the equivalent of some middle schooler having a fit because their mom packed the wrong snack for lunch on Field Trip day. Some people are so smart they come all the way around to stupid. -

When the run game was king, maybe. With today’s modern NFL designed around the pass, the lack of the digitus pollex pretty much guarantees a bison drafted in the first 4 rounds is a huge mistake. Maybe bring in one in on a late round flyer, kick the hooves and whatnot.

Right. But I understand the dem operatives (at least on some level). What I don’t understand is a self-described independent like Oldy sitting back and watching Rusky-gate and Kavanaugh is a serial rapist and supporting that. I could write off the Ukrainian controversy, while impeachment was extreme and silly, sometimes you inadvertently expose your throat to the enemy. As an independent, I’d think seeing Biden brag about shaking down the Ukes and getting nose deep in their process would point to the absurdity of impeaching Trump on whatever he supposedly did, but Trump brings out strong feelings amongst people and that colors how they view the world. On the part about the dem strategy working, I’ve said that myself a number of times. The Trump “stop the steal” process was, at worst on his part, politics as usual these days. Suddenly though, as if by magic, any controversy regarding election security and voting is outrageous! The Dems feasted on Covid, Ukraine and Russia, up to and including allegations of treason, but the so-called independents clutch at their pearls over “our process is broken and the election was stolen”. In this case, you, but I understand you believe that you’re only doing it because someone else is to started it. 😳 In the larger picture, every politician and major media outlet in the country made it political. Trump. Pelosi. Cruz. Harris. Biden. Worst, probably was your infallible Dr Fauci who could have been much, much stronger in his role. From my perspective, it’s really quite simple. When the pandemic first started, there was confusion, distrust, and the government across the board—federal and state—was unprepared as is pretty much par for the course. Plenty of blame to go around there. I gave virtually everyone in leadership a pass when it started, including both Trump and, because I’m a NYS resident, Cuomo. Who wants to be the person in a leadership position responsible for: A. An unknown virus with the potential to cause mass death; B. The decision to decimate a roaring economy, cause people to lose their income, businesses to shutter and be wrong (your political enemies pounce, the average Joe thinks you screwed up, and the economy is screwed) or right (you’re still THE guy who made the decision that resulted in devastation of the economy; C. Who can you really trust? In the calm light of day, Trump pulled the trigger and shut the economy down. For the vast majority of the career politicians and workers in state or federal system, salary and benefits remained intact. On the really important issue of things like food, ability to pay the mortgage and the like, it was business as usual. For a private enterprise guy, the implications were dire and he knew it. Once into the two week to stop the spread and moving forward thereafter, the dem leadership took every opportunity to politicize virtually everything. They trash talked his approach. They encouraged the spread of the virus by supporting and encouraging mass demonstrations in cities across the country (aided by your boy Fauci, to weak or feckles to stand up and use hiss platform to scream about the danger of mass gatherings), and of course trash talking the vax just in case Trump prevailed in the election. Where the heck was the togetherness you yearn for then? Bottom line here is that if folks like you are willing to support the opposition party running McCarthyesque investigations gobbling up 3 years of an administrations time, walking away with nothing on the target of the investigation after promising “TREASON!”, one should not be surprised that even death and disease will ultimately be in play in the political world. Now, though, now you seem to want us all together singing campfire songs. I see that as unlikely. -

Donald Trump was President in the spring of 2020. Are you having a Biden moment? In retrospect, though, you inadvertently make a good point— it seems clear Trump should have relieved your science guy from his post. There is a marked difference between suggesting the general public “did not need to wear masks” and “Sorry folks, you have to sacrifice because there is a shortage of masks but here are options to stay as safe as possible”. Maybe this is the point where people started to realize they needed to think of themselves first. To his credit he seems completely unfazed by it all. I have to say your commitment to him is unshakable. -

Devastating takedown. When he brings up the point about Fauci misleading people about the masks and sending them to die, it sort of dove tails back into the theory that death and suffering were good for the Dems and establishment players in 2019. I’ll be interested in @oldmanfan’s take on this. -

I guess I misunderstood your earlier post. I read “What exactly should he do” and he told people, they don’t listen (my words, not yours) as a giant shoulder shrug. You generally don’t strike me as a shoulder shrug guy. You’ve absolutely been vocal about your thoughts and beliefs on this subject, and a few of your responses might be considered by some to be extreme. I recognize that those times might have been due to frustration, or emotional investment due to your life’s work, but I don’t sense that same passion with Biden. He’s the Commander-in-Chief, and beyond the occasional “Grandpa knows best” appearance under tightly controlled circumstances he’s AWOL while the infection rages. Honestly, I’d have thought you would call for his resignation. On the flip side, it’s clear you’re passionate about the country and your fellow citizens, so I would have been stunned if you did not express outrage at his handling of Afghanistan. He had so many options to pursue and it appears he chose the one specifically that would result in maximum death, injury and chaos. It’s almost like he wants the problems there so at some future point, the US can intervene again.
