  1. Really interesting interview. In football, I get the use of "analytics" in terms of game day decisions and am a HUGE proponent.Yes, there are plenty of old-school football adages that will be at odds with what the data says, and folks will always look at the times that the decision does not work as a reason not to use data as a fundamental part of game day coaching. Really like his "always take the points" and "make em go a long field" as two adages that he has really understood are nonsense when it comes to win probabilities. Also really liked when he said something to the effect coaches and fans would rather lose slowly and late and keep it close, rather than improve win percentages with the possibility to lose early. I think that is 100% accurate. What I don't get is how to use this all this data in the evaluation of players. I never put any emphasis or stock in PFF rankings, just seems to me unless you know exact play call, how can you grade someone? Maybe someone on here who has been a coach or a player at high level can help explain that to me.
  2. A little off topic, but I have drilled into both of my kids that if you get a flat, you run out of gas, your car dies, whatever the reason, if you are on a highway and need to be on the shoulder, get the hell out of the car and stand far away. With the number of distractions in cars nowadays, people drifting lanes is quite common. Seems to me the shoulder of an interstate is insanely unsafe. Sig, I know it looks like SOP for police to park diagonally now and interact from the passenger side now, any thoughts to having people get out of the vehicle on interstates and wait for ticket far away from potential danger of getting hit?
  3. Bad week for suite sales I am sure
  4. No need for new friends in the ATL, you will be with me, my wife, and 68,000 of our closest friends watching the game at New Era
  5. I know, preposterous, at least on the surface! But I may, in fact, have aged a year or two since that delay of game penalty in Cinci. BTW, who else had nightmares about that play and game when Jacksonville did the same thing at NE?
  6. Man, I am getting old. I honestly do not remember him on the Bills
  7. hate to quote myself, but looks like I got my wish...now, i need to act happy about it
  8. Been listening to EEI a bit this morning, a lot of this is coming from Hightower like the IG post from Browner blasting Belichek.
  9. I always look at the price of the entire season and divide by eight. So if I paid $800 for my season ticket, i would just look at it as $100 per game, and they throw in the two preseasons for free. And that is 100% how the teams should market it. How you package things can make a huge difference. On the Washington Metro, you no longer pay a premium at rush hour, you get a discount at non peak hours. Price is the same as it ever was, but getting a discount sounds way more palatable than paying a premium. that makes sense to me.
  10. He has been coaching/playing this way for two years, it was not just "this particular oppoonent. Just heard Jaws on Dan Patrick saying last year he had his concerns about Pederson and his aggresiveness last year, but was proven wrong.
  11. I have been thinking about that. If BB was 3-5 in SuperBowls, when so dominant in the regular season, would we say give other coaches two weeks to prepare and they will out coach BB? Even with the 5-3, could that case not be made?
  12. But Bortles had a great game against the Pats when they were more aggressive. But forget the QBs for a minute, I think going forward the old time adages of the NFL that people are married to are just going to change, and coaches that understand that and embrace the will continue to win, and coaches who refuse to believe the game has changed from even 10 years ago will continue to be mired in mediocrity. They will win some games, maybe even some playoffs games, but will never have sustained high level success.
  13. Must say did not hear most of the game, but I always liked Collingsworth. I am with him on the first TD, to me not even close to a catch they way they called it this year. Second one I thought was a no-brainer, but after the year that was on catches I get his questioning why it would stand.
  14. Disagree John. Too many examples, Foles, Goff, Keenum etc who are deemed to be bums and then get with the right, aggressive offensive minded coach and blossom. I think it's dramatic the difference a coach makes in this league, and being aggressive in scheme, playcalling, and game day decisions and willing to use numbers, data and win percentages etc to your advantage will always have an edge over old-school coaches like Marrone and McD.
  15. even though two different things, not from me. I was only pissed he did not stay with Nathan. McD worries me when it comes to decisions like last night, just look at the Colts game.
  16. Absolutely..if we could go back on this board to the time BB went for it on 4th in the Colt game, I was praising it then, even though they failed to convert and Colts win game.Even last night, before they went for it, I said go for it, worst case scenario you go down eight, but even worse would be TB never giving you the ball back.He is the best QB to ever play the game, i dont want him having the chance to dictate the game outcome. There are going to be times going for it on 4th does not work, there are way more times punting the ball you never get the ball back.
  17. See, that's just what EBall was saying about Marrone. Traditional thinking says that's a reckless decision, Philly and their analytics team said that was a go. They actually use analytics to their advantage, and smart coached moving forward will do the same.
  18. Not a doubt in my mind it was the Benjamin call, immediately after the Jesse James Pittsburgh call..everything changed from that point on
  19. Winner winner chicken dinner
  20. Still can't find anything else yet to bet..saw a prop the Eagles were -150 to have more penalty yards than the Pats..thinking of that one pretty hard. Only problem is the even call after the game has been decided.
  21. I kid you not, out with friends for dinner last night, a nice restaurant that has different wings as an appetizer, and they are awesome. Next to us was an older couple,( like your age Augie ), and a young priest, and they get an order of wings to split. There are like 5 wings to an order, and the lady puts on the plate and proceeds to try and eat with fork and knife, and so the priest follows suit. I felt so bad for him, but figure he was prolly trying to work a donation or something. They each had one, did not eat the other two..cause way to much a pain in the ass to eat a wing with a knife and fork!
