  1. Buddy Nix is nothing but a square shooter and he stated after the draft that there were TWO offensive left tackles that his scouting department said were good enough to insert year one. In my view both exited with earlier picks by Washington @4 (Trent Williams) and Seattle @6 (Russell Okung) before the Bills picked! That clearly indicates to me that Bulaga and Davis, in their minds, were NOT ready to assume the mantle of starting OLT in Buffalo. The comment about NOT adding players who can't play either, to a position that needs upgrading, was a telling bit of information before the draft by Nix and crew. In other words adding another player who can't play compounds the problem!! Maybe they collectively looked at film of Trent Edwards in January and February and decided IF he is prone to dump offs, let's get him a target that can go the distance, so as to make that throw a potent weapon. Lastly, C. J. Spiller has a stat that blows me away so here goes... Spiller had 21 TD's at Clemson of 50 yards or more! EXPLOSIVE, Versatile, and dynamic! What more do you want out of a rookie prospect?
  2. C.J. Spiller will be, barring injury, the best back since Thurman Thomas, IMO. Sit back and enjoy the ride! Oh, by the way, I don't think Ralphie had a say in it, other than to endorse his selection!! They rushed up to the table at Radio City Music Hall because he was simply the best player in this draft, and that's my belief. The age old, "we couldn't believe he was still there" comment holds water on this one, he will be FUN!!!
  3. Outstanding bit of news, as he is, without question, a building block going forward!!
  4. I think the fact they cheated really sums up the Billichick years for me. If you've ever had the displeasure of listening to Teddy "Brewski", they are ALL the perfect match for that area of the country. Smug, pompus asses throughout that region!
  5. Defense is akin to real estate in the 3 aspects both need. In land aquisition it's location, location, location and in the NFL it is pass rush, pass rush, and more pass rush!! The improvement will be tied to this statistic largely, and George Edwards (Bills defensive coordinator) needs to find ways to generate pressure and generate sacks this year. Of course, the run defense needs a total overhaul, but bigger stronger players can turn this stat around in a hurry! One example is Aaron Maybin, whereby he needs favorable match-ups coming off the edge and this can be done by moving around said player prior to the snap. Parcells and Billichick did this with Lawrence Taylor all the time, and guess what? IT works!! Just a thought....
  6. In my eyes, this OLT problem could be solved simply by waiting on Jared Gaither being a free agent at the end of the 2010 season, and by evaluating his play, if it's good, sign him to a contract in March of 2011. In this way, the Bills keep a 2nd rounder with Gaither NOT costing them anything other than a free agent contract. Then the Bills can draft a franchise QB and a pass rusher and suddenly you have a team poised to contend, going forward!!
  7. One of the things I do hope for in regards to Aaron Maybin is that George Edwards has a plan for him in this defense. The NY Giants in LT's heyday would isolate Taylor on the weakest blocker, either a TE or RB, and generally he'd fly right by for the sack. In my mind, Maybin must be schemed by the Bills to put him in favorable match-ups, so they can benefit from his elite speed. Does anyone here really feel Aaron Maybin was properly utilized last year? I doubt it, so let's see what this staff brings to the table when they, in fact, have athletes that could excel with the right defensive coordination! It should be quite interesting.....
  8. Maybe it's just me, but I get excited when I see a young team that arguably had back-to-back cornerstone drafts, and is suddenly heading in the right direction. This season can't get here quick enough for me, and I'd bet if all of you really toned down the doom and gloom factor, and just watched a rebuilding team JELL over the second half of the year, you'd feel exactly the same way I do. Try to put aside the QB situation until one, two or all three of them ( the veterans) prove that they can't get it done and look forward to Buddy Nix and crew getting the next franchise QB in next years draft. Simply put, I will wait and see, and hopefully Brohm or Edwards can right the ship and we can address other needs such as the pass rush or the second reciever etc. in 2010. GO BILLS!!!
  9. My gut feel here is Demetrius Bell has been locked in the weight room all offseason, and will come in and show what he's worth. He now has starting experience (albeit rocky) in 2009 and the "promise" of an open competition between him and Jamon Meredith. Trial by fire can work, so I'm thinking he's smart enough to realize his potential windfall IF he performs as a starting OLT in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills, don't sell him short!! His major knock last year was strength, if it were me, I'd shore up the faults and let natural ability win out. Go Bills and go Demetrius!!!
  10. In Oakland, it's NOT what Tom Cable wants, it is exactly what Al Davis wants!! Hope springs eternal for little T.O.!
  11. I'm totally "on the fence" with Roscoe Parrish. If, as has been said, he gets cut due to younger talent beating him out, so be it! If Chan Gailey can find ways to utilize Roscoe, in his offensive scheme, good, I'm all in to see what's in store! It's all up to little ol Roscoe!! Hope it doesn't snow!!
  12. The questions are numerous so here goes.... The pass rush is a huge question mark at this stage because the people that identify OLB as a problem might, ultimately, be right. The underpinning of the thought process is adding Carrington and Troup to bolster the size and toughness of the unit. Rookies, people, rookies who will see more in their first NFL season in a negitive vein than having any rousing successes in 2010. The growth pains will very likely mean that this unit will have a bumpy ride most Sundays, but I'm OPTIMISTIC that improvement will be evident in the second half of the year. My wish is for a healthy team, so that we can see the fruits of better strength and conditioning in action. I'm thinking that Bills fans will be much more positive after the season is over than during the playing of the schedule.
  13. If you are including draft picks, the supremely simple answer is C.J. Spiller! If you are asking about free agent rookie pick-ups, I'd say Antonio Coleman at OLB might stand the best chance.
  14. Sorry, had to go on a groceries run! I opted for Greggo, he will get a second chance soon.
  15. I'm assuming that I have the number one pick (expansion teams do, generally) so here goes.... Round 1- Sam Bradford, QB Round 2- Nate Allen, FS Round 3- Jon Asamoah, OG Round 4- Corey Wootton, DE Round 5- Arthur Jones, DT Round 6- Arthur Moats, ILB/MLB Round 7- Selvish Capers, OT URFA- Antonio Coleman, OLB URFA- Ciron Black, OT/OG RFA- None ( they cost draft picks!) UFA- Wade Smith, OG UFA- Rex Hadnot, OG UFA-Jay Feeley, K UFA- Brandon Manumaleuna, TE Head Coach: Gregg Williams Trade(s)- Troy Smith, QB from Bal. for 4th rounder in 2011 Sam Hurd, WR from Dal. for 6th ronder in 2012 There is plenty of cash, so UFA's rule the day!
  16. What makes me antzy is the idea that Torrel Troup can simply ride into town and light it up!! Ted Washington, you'll remember had stops in San Francisco and Denver before rounding into a stout NT. This is a tough position to play, so Bills fans PLEASE have patience for this young guy before declaring him a bust.
  17. Totally unanswerable, in the sense that one good OLT may or may NOT improve a teams won/loss record. Hall of Famers like Anthony Munoz played on some real crappy teams, with the emphasis being T-E-A-M!!!
  18. My feelings are exactly this... What could Chan Gailey do with an Andrew Luck or Jake Locker? The possibilities are endless if he truly can make chicken salad out of chicken sh$t!! A franchise QB in his hands MIGHT turn out A-OK! Just a thought.....
  19. One of the worries I have is in the 3-4, the nose tackle is soooo important and I'm hoping that the Bills are very patient with Torrell Troup. Even Ted Washington had two layovers before he got to Buffalo, and he was rounding into a dominant force by that time. My feelings are that this regime will be given the neccessary rope it needs to coach up, and develop these talents without having the fans run the youngsters right out of town! In my mind draft number two of a total overhaul is now in place and one or two more are ON THE WAY!!!
  20. My friend, I'll go 'ya one step further, as I believe this draft is the second "cornerstone" draft and next year is the litmus test for turning the proverbial corner competitively!! After the selections of Wood, Levitre, Byrd, and Nelson, the tide has turned with this new staff adding their mark to an already "ahead of schedule" rebuild. What I mean is that the outgoing regime might have (inspite of themselves) given this new management team the tools to work with insofar as the 2009 draft was concerned. If Troup and Carrington pan out along with Moats and Batten, and I see no reason that they can't, the dye is cast and the Bills will contend in 2011. Heck, if Levi Brown works out, it might be downright historic!! How's THAT for optimism....
  21. My feelings are that IF it's done, it shouldn't be an advantage to any one team, but a training template that literally teaches all the frnchises, or non at all. Then the impetus is on the individual clubs to delve into the material or simply dismiss it out of hand. Either way, he gains the dollars he seeks, and it ultimately doesn't create an unlevel playing field. Officiating is hard enough, but to gain an unfair advantage muddies the waters even more!! One truly wonderful offshoot could be better, crisper games that are played cleanly and correctly, IF that is the gain here, I'm all for it!!!
  22. the Bills are supposedly "in play" for Chester Taylor, RB, Minnesota Vikings. If so, I'd deem this a real good move from the front office. He is starting potential the minute he signs with the Bills, IMO.
  23. Yeah, I'm keeping the hardware in so I can play football for the Buffalo Bills, basically as soon as I can. Holy cow, this guy is going to be a BIG part of the future success! I love this kid, what determination!! GO BILLS.
  24. To me, this all hinges on who's available at #9 that teams didn't think would slide. I am rooting for Eric Berry to tumble a little in the top ten, and IF, and that's a big IF, he drops to 9, then the phones WILL light up like a Christmas tree!! Dez Bryant might also end up as a viable pick at that spot too, so keep your fingers crossed, it could very well happen!!
  25. WhyNot Hamden hit it right on the head, WE NEED PLAYERS! Not average or good, we need an influx of Pro Bowlers and game changing talent that rivals those in the league already. Look at the 90's team and stars were everywhere (nearly), so the premise is correct, get quality, and wins take care of themselves!! Bills of the 90's point this out... Kelly, Thomas and Davis (one/two punch that is in vogue today, this doesn't get the credit it deserves frankly!) Reed, Lofton, Beebe Metzalaars, McKeller Wolford, Ballard Davis, Ritcher Hull B. Smith, Hansen Bennett, Talley Odomes L.Smith
