Investing, The Stock Market/Favorite Stocks & Retirement
Guffalo replied to BringBackFergy's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I assume my wife's 403Bs and my former 401ks cannot be folded into the same IRA? So at best I would fold the 5 orphan accounts to 2, one in each of our names? -

A few years ago at a Pinto tailgate I remember Kenny surveying the Sunday junkyard with the assorted misfits and debauchery stretched out before them and proclaiming to one of his kids "Someday, this will all be yours" ( and I think he was being serious) -

Thats the problem, a financial planner wants all of them consolidated in one account, but then he offers only a limited amount of choices. Principal, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, Fidelity and Transamerica are the ones, but they only offer the funds selection that give them the best incentives. I keep them separate, but their horizon/targets are all over the place. But at least with those five firms, I have multiple funds to choose from. As for picking stocks, I am horrible, but once in a while you hit and it is rewarding. Lately I am looking at dividend returns, once a payment comes in, I will but a few shares of something I already have or have been looking at. -

I have been contributing to my 401K since the early 80's, we are now over 50 years old and max out every year with the extra 5K per year. Because my wife and I have been at different jobs, we have five what I call "Abandoned" 401Ks which have no new cash going into them, but are part of our nest egg. One of my wifes' former employers deprecated their pension plan and she received a lump sum which we rolled over into one of these "abandoned" 401k's.( I was hoping that pension would have stayed since it would have been around 1200 per month for her.) My biggest failure is that between the 5 abandoned and our two current 401Ks, each one was set up with a strategy that made sense at the time it was opened, but neither one is appropriate for our current goals. I wish there was a way to consolidate them without losing the diversity that they offer across multiple firms. I have also have a modest trading account that I use for trying out different stocks that get my interest. I have Jetblue since we like the company, Ford, since I believe in the product (and they offer a dividend), GE, INTC and CSCO for the dividends. Some other stocks that I go in and out with in this account are things like TASR since they came up with a great body camera solution in the wake of the Ferguson mess, as well as some small biotech stocks that show promise and tech stocks. -

Question on skiing next week - temps in the 40s?
Guffalo replied to BillnutinHouston's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Soft / Spring skiing is great for beginners as long as the cover doesn't turn to slush. If the mountain is groomed properly, it can be a great day or two of skiing. If the groomers are not on top of it, it can be a nightmare. As I recall HV had a pretty good crew and are good at making the snow last and with a good base, you could be in for a treat. The soft conditions allow the skier to translate the body movement easier to the ski and therefore the surface of the snow. Since you are not engaged in the delicate balance of "just the right edge pressure" required to carve on a hard surface, your turns will come a bit easier. The edge of the ski only needs to begin the turn before it starts the carving motion, as long as you follow through on your turn initiation, you will be fine. Remember anything you learned on hard surface still apples in the soft stuff, its just the amount of work and edge pressure will fluctuate with the softer conditions. Have a blast! -
I think you may be correct, I also think this crew was the same that inhabited the settlement in Virginia where Noah grew up

I hope that is the plan, a quick signing of Hughes would take the sting away from losing Alonzo.

Also, was this clan run out from the other location in virginia where they went looking for safety? The place that was Tyreese was bitten. Same kind of setup, walled community, set apart from others. Also where the headless torsos were found and the heads with the "W"s carved in them.

Did anyone notice that the woman that gave Rick the haircut, also the one from the food pantry, had a tattoo on the inside of her right wrist? She is kinda homespun, clean cut MILF look and feel going, but then she has this gnarly black tat on the inside of the wrist. Wolf Tattoo?

I have a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell! Loved the show, I also cringe when the Californians comes on, thats ususally when I go for another beer. Kristen Wiig is hot, but she seems so shy. I love her Lawrence Welk skit where she is the deformed "other" sister to the singing sisters. Wish I would have taped it.

Try a free app called "What Was There?" It allows you to look at a building or location from another time period. Example, I stand in front of my office on Park Avenue, there are 4 different pictures of the building one from 1890, one from 1913, another from 1955 and another from 1988, Select one and and the picture displays on the screen of your phone, you can increase or decrease the density of the picture so you are looking at the present building with the "Ghost" of the old picture overlaid in the viewfinder. Its pretty cool to see changes through the years.
