  1. Honestly, I am beginning to feel that our season might not be won or lost on EJ's shoulders. It's his second season and we can only expect minimal improvement, of which there might not be much of a difference between starter and 2nd string. So reguardless of EJ, we will get one general amount of production out of the QB position. I think the player who may have more of an impact on our team this year is either CJ or Sammy. If CJ can be 2012 productive and other roster upgrades take effect, it would make more of a difference than if he plays at 2013 (injured) production. Same as Sammy, if he gets his roughly projected 60-70 catches, about 1,000 yards and 6-8 tds, it will have a major impact over if he looks lost and has like 35 catches for 400 yards and 1-2 tds.
  2. In all honesty, and this may negate my original statement, if I recall correctly, the study was based on a defense's ability to force fumbles vs forcing interceptions, and how a forced fumble is mostly flukey. Yes, a player with propensity for putting the ball on the ground is more likely to fumble every time he rushes vs a sure handed player, but Schwartz maintains that as far as the defense goes, over the course of the season and all of the fumble prone to sure handed players that every team shares exposure to, that FORCING the fumble is moreso random instead of seen as an actual overwhelmement of defensive skill. It's an interesting paradox between offense and defense, because there has to be a reliable repeatibiliity of a fumbling player to repeat, but conversely a particular defensive set, play call, or even PERSONNEL does not effect freqency.
  3. When Jim Schwartz was an assistant under Belichek in Cleveland, he did a study and conluded that lack of interceptions thrown and quantity of ints forced was conducive to team skill (if you get more, or throw less, it's probably because you're better), but he concluded that there was NO such similar correlation to forced fumble and fumble recoveries.
  4. I don't think it's as cut-and-dried, black and white as that. An ego didn't stop him from being accurate on the field or learning an offensive scheme enough to enjoy sustaiined success. I think he might have some type of learning disability which kept him from making the next step as a pro, once the league caught up and accounted for his elite athleticism. Good for him for succeeding in his chosen field for as long as he did, none of us would be able to boast we were ever top 10 or 15 in the nation at anything, I would venture a guess.
  5. Haha that's great. I live 4-5 hours from Buffalo, so never got to listen to a game called by Van Miller, the only exposure I have to him is when he's rarely on The John Murphy show. I wish they had the smart phone apps and that stuff back in the 90s, when I became a fan.
  6. I tried looking it up online but couldn't find it anywhere, does anyone know of anywhere to find his HOF speech?
  7. It's a Bills game, so there is already a chorus of boos, as well as booze. He indeed has past. Fortunately, he has not passed.
  8. I feel the same way. With me being pretty young during the super bowl run and therefore not getting very familiar with the players then until after the fact, Fred is absolutely my favorite Bill ever. Would love to see him for many more years, but everything has an end to it. Kyle is right there, too, but I see him aging quickly in the future here and only having 3 years left, if lucky. My 3rd choice would be Eric Wood, as soon as he lit up Maybin in OTAs and told him to give his money back haha.
  9. I'm not the type of fan who buries players before they're dead, but I legitimately thought Aaron Williams was a fringe roster player at the end of his second year, as he wasn't getting it done at CB, and I know I'm not the only one to feel that. I can't believe how quickly he has gone from possibly playing himself off of the team to being a leader of the team, having a 2nd contract in his hand already, and on the verge of being a Pro Bowl breakout player. Probably the biggest, quickest turnaround since Moulds. Obviously this turn around doesn't happen every year with 1 player, as it has been over 15 years since Moulds did his turn around, but don't sleep on guys like Bradham, he has shown skills, just not for 3 downs, 60 minutes, 16 games. Yet.
  10. Obviously at this point we have none, I think you missed the idea of the OP. Imagine it's 2028, and a Bills player just got inducted into the HOF, and the 2014 season we look back at as the season he REALLY took off. What player is it? I don't think Spiller,, because he has had 2 of his 4 seasons in the NFL pretty much ineffective. And I'm a Spiller fan, just don't see him turning it around so much so that he puts up 5 years as a top 3 RB, which he would need to to be in consideration. I believe he is what, 26, 27 years old?
  11. I meant to put "other than Garrison Sanborne" when I made the OP,, too.
  12. If you could pick one current Bills player, other than Kiko of course, who you could see somehow, everything going right and the realize every drop of potential, and stay healthy for a decade straight, and made the Hall of Fame, who would you chose? If I had to FORCE someone to play at a Hall of Fame level for the next 10 years, the answer would easily be EJ. For EJ to be Hall of Fame worthy, he would obviously have had to have done a lot of winning, and probably a Super Bowl, to make it. If I had to pick someone who is on the current roster I could reasonably project out to make the Hall of Fame, I would feel comfortable picking Mario Williams, if he plays another 4 or 5 years, has at least 2 more 12-13+ sack seasons, and finishes his career with another 40-45 more sacks. Not an ace lock for the Hall of Fame, but somebody who I could see having the numbers warrented to get in. My other pick, based on potential obviously, and not production, would be Watkins. He hasn't taken a snap that matters yet, but if he does realize that talent, he could very well make it. What say you, if you could FORCE someone to play at a HOF level for the next 10 years, either because it would mean the team would benefit from it, or because you just love the guy and wish he could do well (like imagine if Freddy could play another 10 years at current level, I would love that), who would be your pick? And if you could project someone out to being a HOF'er, who would it be? Assume there is one on the team right now, ignoring just how unlikely it is, who would it be?
  13. Hmm, you may have something here, but if so, that hasn't played out yet. Most draft picks are on 3-4 year deals, and the new CBA agreement was 3 years ago, so most of the top picks that would make that kind of spash's deals aren't expired yet.
  14. We're looking at you, Angelo Crowell.
  15. What happens if we don't, New England does, and they rediscover his screen game skills, and with Brady, he improves on his 2012 stats?
  16. Eh... I can appreciate the effort, but it was written pretty poorly. D+
  17. This kind of crap is starting to drive me nuts... Just what exactly is the conspiracy, than, Mr. Pro Personnel Director?? If he's so obviously not going to improve, and really will be the same as last year, surely it must be obvious to the MORE PROFESSIONAL TALENT EVALUATORS too, who have decided to hitch their wagons to a "terrible player" in an obvious win-now situation. I BET THEY'RE TRYING TO GET FIRED! I BET THEY DON'T KNOW AS MUCH AS YOU ABOUT THE SITUATION, BECAUSE YOU'VE OBVIOUSLY LEARNED MORE BY WATCHING 40 MINUTES OF PRESS CONFERENCE, A COUPLE HIGHLIGHT REELS, AND A COUPLE GAMES WHEN THEY ONLY GOT TO SPEND ABOUT 2,000 HOURS WITH HIM LAST FALL. I'm sorry to single you out about this, but it's just absurd to think that know more than them about a situation reguarding football. And we can't even think they're just trying for next year and enduring a lesser QB today for potential later. This team has stated over and over and proven it through their actions that they are looking to WIN NOW. So what makes you think they haven't exhausted every possible avenue to improve every position on the roster, evaluated all rookie QBs, and arrived at the position that their best option for a WIN NOW MODE was EJ MANUEL??
  18. What is the price tag if we wanted to trade for a top 5 WR... Julio Jones, AJ Green, Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald... Demarius Thomas? Fitzgerald is older so maybe it doesn't pertain to us here, but the rest of them, we're giving up 2 #1 picks. And the 4th rounder next year is a wash. I can swallow this. AS LONG AS HE REALIZES THE POTENTIAL HE HAS.
  19. Win Now. I don't dislike it, as long as they can recoup some picks by dealing Stevie.
  20. Does John Shaft have to repeatedly tell the ladies that he is a fine lover, or is it always just implied?
  21. Sammy Watkins is the Tim Raines of football... if you don't get that, I can't help you... C'mon with the draft already!
  22. Hopefully he can get long use out of it... A transplant is not a new lease on life, but is merely considered a treatment option for those with kidney failure, due to the myriad of anti-rejection meds and regular check ups that are still required. It's not promising that his own kidneys failed by the age of 25 or however old he is, because whatever killed them will likely kill his transplanted one, too.
  23. MORE LIKE THE MILWAUKEE 550 MILLION BUCKS! God I'm killin 'em...
