I'd like Mike Wallace vs Vincent Jackson.
ndirish1978 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For someone with more posts than me, you sure seem to troll this board a lot. One player is a free agent. The other would require us to give up a top 10 draft pick WHILE signing him to a big contract. Enough said. -
Looks like they agreed to it to avoid a lowers salary cap number this year (looked like it was going DOWN to 113). The league agreed to help them finesse the numbers to bump it just north of 120. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/12/nflpa-agreed-to-cowboysredskins-salary-cap-sanctions/ Take that and the fact that 28 other teams stood to GAIN cap room at the detriment of two of the more free spending (thus resented) teams in the league and it makes sense they agreed to it. De Smith's contract is also up for renewal soon and I don't see him getting re-upped if players saw the cap go down. Florio thinks the teams should sue and cite that the punishment points to collusion (which it kind of is), but I doubt anything will get done in time for them to actually make a splash in FA first. 36M is an awful lot of money to get taken away. We may be players for VJax if we pony up 11M+. That said, I doubt we offer him THAT much. If he wanted to take 10M plus I think he'd just re-sign with SD.

How will bills Special Teams be without Lindell?
ndirish1978 replied to Billsfreak17's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They re-signed him Feb 12. They're replacing him with himself? -
The league can't not approve a contract that doesn't break the rules of the uncapped year. What they did do was warn the owners on six separate occasions that, while the contracts would not be voidable because in fact the year was uncapped, the teams would face repercussions should they attempt to take advantage of the year and use it as a year to dump salaries and front-load contract to circumvent the cap in the next year. (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/12/nfl-warned-teams-at-least-six-times-about-not-dumping-salary-in-uncapped-year/) In the Cowboys case, they give a WR $17M in the FIRST year of his contract in the uncapped year so his cap number would be negligible for the duration of the contract. The Redskins dumped Haynesworth's $100M contract and several other players and front-loaded their contracts in a way that was structured so that when the cap kicked in they could hide large contracts. Obviously I love it when bad things happen to teams I hate (schadenfreude). In this case, the Redskins and Cowboys totally ignored instructions from the league and tried to exploit the uncapped year despite warnings that there would be consequences for doing so. Let's be clear, only TWO teams in the league are being penalized for this. The Saints and Raiders are not being punished, they are simply not receiving a windfall from the other 2 teams' abuse of the rules. Does it really surprise anyone that Snyder and Jones are the 2 owners who ignored the league's instructions and did whatever the hell they wanted?

If history is any indicator (it is)

Wow, I'm surprised by how little I agree with you, since your points are all well thought out. 1- I don't think we go OL in the 1st. 2- I do think we lose Bell 3- I agree we will not get Jackson or Williams 4- Wimbley would be a full time DE, not OLB 5- If we don't sign a good on in FA, we draft WR in the 1st. -
Mock With Redskins Trade is Up...

Any draft that has Tannenhill falling to the second has big problems -
is Justin Blackmon worth moving up to get?

I don't understand the trade up threads. The Buffalo Bills will not be trading up. Now, or as long as Nix is here. -
Rams, Redskins make a deal for the #2 pick
ndirish1978 replied to cantankerous's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What this means for the Bills: say goodbye to any dreams of Vincent Jackson. The Skins have a ton of cap space and they are going after every OL and WR they want. -
Per ESPN The contract includes $20.5 million in guarantees and $40.5 million in "new" money, bringing his total over five years to $58.25 million, . He can make an additional $10 million in escalators. Sanchez is now the seventh-highest paid NFL quarterback

Chances of Bills signing both Mario and Wimbley

I put our chances at 0. Chances of landing Mario: 0. Wimbley: highly unlikely. -
who is your Homer Pick the 2012 draft

I'll amend the statement: you expect difference makers in 1-2, starters in 3. You don't always hit, but you need more hits than misses and we had far more misses than hits. Or are you saying you enjoyed our drafts? Here are all our draft picks rd 1-3 since 2000 up until Chix. You tell me which year you really like. In 9 years we hit on more than one pick TWICE in 2001 and 2009. 2000 1- Erik Flowers 2-Tavares Tillman, 3-Corey Moore 2001 1- Nate Clements 2- Aaron Schobel 3- Travis Henry 2002 1- Mike Williams 2- Josh Reed 2- Ryan Denney 3- Coy Wire 2003 1- Willis McGahee 2- Chris Kelsay 3- Angelo Crowell 2004 1- Lee Evans 1- JP Losman 3- Tim Anderson 2005 2- Roscoe Parrish 3- Kevin Everett 2006 1- Whitner 2- McCargo 3- Youboty 2007 1- Lynch 2- Pos 3- Trent Edwards 2008 1- McKelvin 2- Hardy 3- Ellis 2009 1- Maybin 2- Wood 3- Byrd

How would you guys feel if the latest batch of mocks hold true and we draft Coples?

Oh I know. I'm not complaining. I just identified in myself the reason why I have subconsciously been skeptical about our chances of drafting an impact DLman.

Probably our starting SLB unless something dramatic happens. Glad he re-signed

There are a bunch of names floating around for us at 10 and I keep wincing when they mention us going DL. I realized the reason we're all so gun-shy about drafting a DL early this year is our historical futility picking DL early. There are too many question marks for me to feel confident taking a DE. Upshaw- he looked terrible at the combine. Coples- has issues with effort and was a bit of a one year wonder. We're so used to missing on DL picks that everyone is scared to pick a guy early. We've generally done such a poor job in the draft and that's why we're the team wit the longest playoff drought in the NFL. DL drafted in the 1st 09- Maybin- Bust who picked up some stats with the Jets. 06- McCargo- Terrible 00- Erik Flowers- Benched after 5 games in yr 2 and then cut. how about 2-3? 01- Schobel (2) The best of the bunch. Great player. Our ONE hit 01- Ron Edwards (3) Average, we didn't hold on to him 02- Ryan Denney (2) Average player. Had a couple of decent seasons. 03- Chris Kelsay (2) Stats are comparable to Denney's, but somehow scored a big contract and has stayed with the team. 04- Tim Anderson (3) 52 tackles in 5 years. Lasted 1 year in the NFL post-Bills. 08- Chris Ellis (3) Brought in to rush the passer, 1 sack in 3 seasons. 10- Troup (2) ?? 10- Carrington (3) ?? I have reserved judgement on Troup and Carrington. When you draft someone in the top 3, you're looking for a difference-maker. We have hit on exactly 1 good pick out of 11 and secured 2 decent role players. That leaves us with 8 complete misses in the first 3 rounds. You build along the lines. We were able to turn our OL drafting around when we picked up Levitre and Wood in 09. I really hope we turn this around soon. I hope this year's draft is a lot closer to our '11 draft than '10 and we pick up at least 2 good DLmen.

Here is the knowledge I be about the player I want. Also, the knowledge I be about the coaching system, you grammatical genius. Wimbley came out of college weighing about 25lbs less than he does now, so they shifted him to LB, where he has gone on to bulk up. 6'4 260 is the prototypical size for a DE that Nix wants and he is a natural pass rusher who would no longer have to worry about ever having to drop in coverage. 4-3 linebackers are supposed to be smaller than 3-4 LBs because their job is not rushing the passer, but covering and run stuffing. Cowher has stated he wants smaller, fast LBs. Wimbley is a DE in our scheme, just like Merriman is a DE in our scheme. Keep your smug answers to yourself and don't interrupt when grown-ups are talking.

Can playing in Buffalo ever be cool again?
ndirish1978 replied to zow2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's pretty simple, not a place that gets made fun off being bass ackwards. When you have players making jokes about Buffalo (long list), reporters making jokes about Buffalo (Peyton to Buffalo:LOL), it gives the town an air of not being a good place to play, even if it's not true. Perception means a lot to people whether you credit that statement as accurate or not. Miami sucks, but the town is a vacation spot, so player would consider signing off of that alone. Buffalo needs to create a player-friendly culture. Not in easy workouts or anything, but being known as a good place to live and supportive of the players. -
It is.
