Here's the problem with that line of thinking: it makes sense because you approach it from the vantage point of what would most benefit you, not the best move for the other organization. The best move for a team with an aging QB that suddenly finds itself at the top of the draft in a draft that's being touted as being strong at QB, is to take a QB.

Yeah that guy is an amazing public speaker. He could pretty much sell anything. I'm 4 minutes into the press conference and he almost has me convinced this is a good thing.

Oh, i wasn't talking about McDaniels, I was referring to all the possible second-choice candidates and how likely it is that they be willing to leave to coach for that organization. I dislike McDaniels (because Patriots) and it's a bad look for him, but it DOES look to me like they announced a press conference to move things along and pressure him to sign when they thought he might be wavering. For McDaniels it's simply an awful move - he screwed over those poor coaches who signed with the colts already. This move ensured that owners won't trust him to hire him and coaches won't come work for him.

It behooves the Giants to sit on this as long as possible to maximize their leverage and get as much as possible in the draft. Some teams may only like 1 of the top 3 QBs, so the pick is more valuable to them if their guy is around at 2, but there is no way to guarantee that before the Browns pick.
