Eric Wood's Contract Status: Explained
Estro replied to KevinMassare's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think there's more to it than just that. The hold up, in my belief is the signing bonus. You are right, his 2018 base salary is guaranteed, however I'm not sure the Bills can't go after 2/3's of his signing bonus. He received a $6.5M bonus over the course of the 3 yr. deal......and while most teams don't do it, I believe if you retire teams are able to recoup the prorated portion of the signing bonus. We know the '18 base salary is guaranteed for injury, but I'm not sure signing bonuses are guaranteed for injury. BTW, this was an awful break for the Bills.......if they are unable to recoup 2/3's of the singing bonus which amounts to a little over $4M they would've paid Eric Wood over $15M in cash for 1 year. Bad break for both sides. I think Eric and the Bills will find a compromise. Bills did him a solid by offering a healthy extension and guaranteeing an entire yr. in case of injury, which is over $5M. I think they need to find a compromise on the SB. -
For Josh Rosen I would because I think he has a chance to be a very good NFL QB and I don't particularly like Mason Rudolph. And we all know without a superior QB you live in no man's land in the NFL universe. Now if Rosen is gone at #2 or #3.....I would not trade up for Josh Allen, who I think is going to be an absolute tire fire in the NFL. To me, the most important attribute to be a successful QB in the NFL is deadly accuracy. Allen's accuracy is horrendous. Like really, really bad. I've seen the excuse.....well he played for Montana, the talent around him was weak.....you know what else was weak the inferior defenses he faced most Saturdays. It was bad in college and it'll be just as bad in the NFL, where the windows are even tighter. And remember the thing that Tyrod was really bad at? Throwing with anticipation or what they now call throwing a WR open. Guess who has the same problem? Josh Allen. EJ Manuel was the same way....he couldnt anticipate a throw for his life. You either have those traits as a QB or you don't. I think Rosen does. His concussion scare me, truth be told, but I like him. Allen will flop.

Sal .C: Giants Really Like Darnold
Estro replied to Jamie Muellers Ghost's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If this happens...and the Bills see the guy or 2 that they really like go off the board...their contingency plan, if they can find a partner should be to try and move down with 1 of their first round picks and pick up a 2019 1st round pick, essentially putting themselves in a similar situation as they were this yr. Keep setting yourself up to have the draft ammo to make a jump up the board. DeShaun Watson went #12 overall last yr., the Browns picked up #25 in '17 and what turned out to be #4 this yr. The Bills hold #12 this yr., it'd be amazing if they could pull off a similar trade if they can't get their QB this year. -
Calvin Ridley is a bad athlete. He'll fall come draft day. His combine was bad

Sal .C: Giants Really Like Darnold
Estro replied to Jamie Muellers Ghost's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've actually thought Darnold is the reason the Giants aren't willing to trade out of #2 yet. I don't think they know for sure who the Browns are taking yet, and if they indeed pass on darnold they will run to the podium to select Darnold. All signs point to Darnold to the Browns at #1, but some people still think Josh Allen might be the guy at #1. Which brings me to a scenario, nobody has talked about. If the Browns are pretty even on Allen and Darnold, maybe if the Giants offer the 2nd overall pick and let's say their 2nd round pick or next yrs 2nd round pick, maybe the Browns entertain that idea. In order for the Browns to accept that trade down I thibnk they'd almost have to slightly favor Allen, which maybe they will come draft day. If the Browns go the other way, stand pat and select Darnold, I think the #2 pick goes to the highest bidder, and I'd expect the most likely suitors to be in order of likelihood: 1. Broncos 2. Bills 3. Cardinals I thinks the Broncos hold better chips than us because the Giants will love only having to go to #5, ensuring they get Barkley, Nelson or Chubb worst case scenario, and still picking up the Broncos 2nd rounder this yr. and probably an additional mid round pick next yr. Bottom line the Bills are going to have to sell the farm to get to #2, and yes it will involve both #1's this yr. and next yrs. #1. Anyone who thinks we won't have to touch next yrs. #1 is kidding themselves. It's why the more I think about it the more I don't want to do it. #4 and #6 which will be much cheaper spots to move up to, the question is will any QB's the Bills like be left at that point......maybe not. This draft is going to be insane! Pure entertainment and drama , thats for sure! -
Bills have private workout with Baker Mayfield
Estro replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Somebody has to paste Beane's face over this meme if we do move up to #2 and take Baker. For the record, not a Baker fa n in trade up scenaio. -
That's why you don't let positional coaches talk you into picks. All the talk that we had his college WR coach and how everything was going to be great. Now the WR coach is a goner and we're.ledt with a player who sucked in the field....And appears to have serious problems off the field. Hope the kid gets some help and never takes what he took that night again, but this one kind of irks me. We also traded a 2 and 3 to move up for him didn't We? Passed on Juju, too, could be just stood pat and selected him
-
Yes it sound like he was probably high out of his mind. The drug test won't be fat behind
-
Wow. What a freaking mess. Dude sounds like he needs serious help. As far as the Bills are concerned....Zays play last year on the field was a total disaster now this. Looks like we may have just flushed a 2nd and 3rd round pick down the toilet. This story is really disturbing, I honestly wonder if he'll ever wear a Bills uniform.
-
BTW Peter King make reference to the Jets perhaps having their eye on Baker, including the final haiku he wrote in the article: "Not sure it’s true, butmany around league see Jetsfocused on Baker." -Peter King Intersting, as I don't think Baker is the guy the Bills have their eye on. The next obvious question becomes what Josh do the Giants have their eye on.....Allen or Rosen? If it's Allen I think the Bills are in business to move up to get Rosen......if the Giants, otoh, like Rosen, I think the Bills miss out on their guy. I just don't think the Bills would like Allen as a prospect, due to his inaccuracy. Interesting about Baker and the Jets, though, as most right now seem to be speculating they traded up for Allen or Rosen. King thinks differently.

Colts just got three picks for nothing

It's nice to tank. The /colts tank yrs have paid off brilliantly considering their last one netted them Andrew Luck. -
If we cannot trade up for our QB
Estro replied to BBillsWestCoast's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Precisely. If we miss out on the QB we want this year, we will sell one of our #1's this yr. and walk away with an extra 1st round pick in the '19 draft. It's a smart contingency plan, have a feeling it won't come to that though. -
Is Jerry Hughes worth a swap of ones with Tampa Bay?
Estro replied to njbuff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Precisely. #22 and #7 is actually a little more valuable than the 3rd pick, so maybe the Colts give you their 4th or 5th back. The point being the Bills wouldn't have to touch any picks next year, or any of their multiple 2nd or 3rd round picks this yr. That's 4 picks in rounds 2 and 3 to find quality starters on CHEAP 4 yr rookie deals. This is how smart teams build rosters. -
Bills Have a Standing Offer for LB Preston Brown

Is Jerry Hughes worth a swap of ones with Tampa Bay?
Estro replied to njbuff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Moving up from #12 to #7 is worth 300 points on the infamous draft value trade chart. That 300 point value is equivalent to pick #60 in the draft, so a late 2nd rounder. That might be what I'd consider a fair value for Hughes, a good player. If he's not in the Bills long term plans, which after the signing of Trent Murphy, could be a possibility, I'd be okay with this trade. Another way to inch up in the draft without having to touch a draft pick. Keep in mind, Jerry Hughes cap hit for '18 is $10.4M, and by trading him pre June 1st we'd incur a $5.8M dead cap hit. So we'd save $4.6M against the cap in '18.........which might be enough cap space to wiggle in 1 more FA like Preston Brown or E.J. Gaines. I think what I like the most about this scenario, though is getting up to #7 without having to touch any of our draft pick ammo, which we have a lot of. That means the Bills could ship #7 & #22 to the Colts for picks #3 and their 4th rounder, #103. That would leave the Bills with both of their 2nd rounders & both 3rd rounders (not to mention 2 4th rounders if we pulled off the trade I mentioned above) so they could start building this roster with some quality rooks. Yea.......I guess I've talked myself into it....I really like the idea of shipping Hughes to the Bucs to move up from #12 to #7. ? is would the Bucs make such a move? It's fun to think about. You know something we don't or are you just draft fantasizin'? -
Bills Have a Standing Offer for LB Preston Brown
Estro replied to sven233's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Preston is a replaceable player. His durability has been his best asset, but his lack of speed and poor angles in pursuit are problems. He's also a liability against the quick pass game. It's safe to keep him and not create a hole, but it might be smarter to look to upgrade for a lot cheaper in the draft if they think such a prospect exists in the draft who'd be available in rounds 2-4. -
Josh Allen one of the most overrated QB prospects this decade
Estro replied to Yeezus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. I've watched every throw from 4-5 of his college games and I don't like Allen as a prospect at all. Does he have a strong arm? Yes. Does he have the accuracy or pocket presence neccesary to play at a high level in the NFL? Not even close. I will be incredibly disappointed if this is the guy the Bills bet their future on. After loving Mahomes as a prospect...to pass on him for someone as weak as Allen would be a total let down. Darnold. Let's hope he's the target. -
KC to Sign LB Anthony Hitchens to a Contract with $9M AAV
Estro replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Let's hope Preston finds healthy $$$$$, just not from the Bills. I'll take a 5th round comp. Pick! He'll need to find about $6.5M per for that to happen -
Worst local media commentator on the Bills?
Estro replied to VeryWeakPassword's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have noticed the politics. Jeremy, Bulldog, and Schopp are all raging liberals. They do let it seep into their sports talk shows, which IMO isn't a great idea, because your likely alienating about half of your listeners. Bulldog in particular tweets some far out there left wing, nutty stuff. Like, I said I personally think it's a bad business decision to alienate half your auduence.....but he thinks he's some type of social justice warrior.....So whatever. I don't really get caught up or offended by differing political opinions. That's something liberals do! -
Worst local media commentator on the Bills?
Estro replied to VeryWeakPassword's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I actually like Schopp. I get it, he can come across as a bit snarky at times, but the show is smart. I actually have trouble listening to that show when Mike is out and Bulldog has to carry the show by himself. The morning show doesn't move the needle for me. -
Like the fit, hate the price. Has there ever been a player that's rode out the hype like Sammy? Hats off to his agent. That's a helluva price. Let's hope Jordan Matthews can find some crazy FA $$$ to help out with our comp. Pick formula. Maybe he can fetch $7-$8M per, himself.

Not for nothing......but John Murphy was harping about the fact that he thought there was a chance Drew Brees could maybe just maybe hit the open market, on his show on Friday. Normally, I wouldn't have thought much of it, but he was also cryptically hinting Tyrod Taylor was about to be traded a couple of hours before it happened. He clearly was talking with someone in the know at OBD. Other hints dropped: Bills interested in AJ McCarron Bills likely letting Preston Brown walk Murph kept referencing he thought the Bills were likely to pull off a big trade possibly this weekend and he thought Tyrod was a prime candidate, boom, then 2 hours later it happened. It was much more than just a "good" guess. Donald Jones interestingly followed up Murph's suggestion that something funny might be happening in New Orleans with a thought that maybe the Saints would throw their hat in the Kirk Cousins "sweepstakes" , which is possibly why a Drew Brees deal has not been done. John didn't laugh that idea away, so it got me thinking

Is Josh Rosen really the QB that the Bills covet?
Estro replied to PIZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, it's Sam Darnold they covet. That's why all you hear is they love Rosen, that's the narrative they're happy to have out there. If Darnold is not the #1 Pick he will be a Buffalo Bill
