  3. I had the same conversation with him more than once - drinking too Then there was the whole Bills Booster stuff ! Ask SDS about Scott Berchold. Many of us tried - and thanks to Denny and Alicia Bratten (sp ?) I was able to get a lot of info and access back in the day - but the Bills mindset was very anti - technology How else would you explain the ticket office - to this day ? Who remembers when the Bills actually tried to sell tickets in ATM style kiosks at local malls - rather than the Internet ?
  4. Prodigy was pathetic - I was such a neophyte - but it was Ground Zero and it was fun There was BBML - wasn't sure about that and then the great Rochester D&C meltdown And then some (RIT) guy from Pembroke, NY came along - stuff happens BTW - I paid for my Chargers season tix today - I wish they were Bills ones There have been so many contributors but I nominate Deborah
  5. Remember when Danny Neaverth and the gang at Oldies 104 did the parody songs during the Bills' Super Bowl Years? I heard "Red Rubber Ball" by the 1960's boy band, Crykle (http://www.sundazed.com/artists/cyrkle.html) last night and it triggered the memory of one of my all-time favorite parody songs. To set the scene, on December 27th, 1992 the Bills lost the season finale 27-3 to the Houston Oliers in the Astrodome. This was the first time in five years the Bills were not Divsion champions but they did qualify as a wild card team. Lo and behold the Oilers would have to travel to Buffalo the following weekend for the wild card matchup. As things happen, this truned into a memorable game - but I like the song too: Flashback to January 3, 1993 Sung to the tune of "Red Rubber Ball" "We've should have known they'd do it the hard way, We've got the Oilers once again and Houston's gonna pay. This game will be different because it's here in Buffalo, Oilers, you can't run and shoot here in the cold and snow" Chrous: "And I think we're going to blow them out Yes, the Bills will get revenge We're going to beat those Houston Oilers in Buffalo" "We've never cared for Houston all along They wear those sissy uniforms and sing that stupid song. When they play here their defense will be leaking like a sieve, A Buffalo Bills' style butt kicking is what we're gonna give." Chorus "Now last week's in the past and it's time to play football, The Bills are getting serious and their backs are to the wall. At Oldies 104 we know the Bills are gonna roll, They'll beat the Oilers on their way to a third straight Super Bowl. Chorus I'd like to credit the writer/band but no information is given
  6. Must of been those years as a Bill in the 1960's! No Photoshop - right on the front page of the SD paper this AM ! Right after I tell the bandwagoneering Charger fans that Marty was a LB for the Bills from 1965-68, I then make sure to reassure them that he will break your heart with some version of Marty Ball "After college, (Pittsburgh) Schottenheimer was selected in the fourth round of the 1965 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Colts and in the seventh round of the 1965 American Football League draft by the Buffalo Bills. He signed with the Bills and spent the next three seasons with Buffalo, including the 1965 AFL Championship season. In 1969, he joined the Boston Patriots and spent the next two seasons with the Pats. He was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1971 but was traded again to the Colts before the beginning of the 1971 season. He retired from football in 1971 and spent the next several years working in the real estate industry. Schottenheimer credits his NFL career as being his inspiration for coaching." From Wikpedia
  7. American Express / Costco Combo 1% on anything (including gas at Costco - usually 5-7 cents cheaper than the street) 2% on travel / hotels 3% on dining out Adds up nicely and also paid at the end of the year - should be about $320 for 2006

  10. Try & hit the aforementioned Busby's in Santa Monica on Sunday. I'll be there with AKC and the Losman family clan. Even when the Bills perform badly, we can still party hardy Come by just for the spicy chicken wing dip
  11. It's hard to say what is bigger - Junior's Ego or The Farce of the ceremony held Monday when he retired (The Chargers even made him an instant member of their HOF) - no four year wait I'll be surprised if he is still a Patriot on October 22nd
  12. That Was Then - This Is Now On August 17th, 1996 – the Buffalo Bills played the Carolina Panthers in an NFL exhibition game. This was the second game in the Panthers’ new stadium, Ericsson Field. Both teams were 1-1 in the pre-season matches. The Bills had finished the 1995 season with a 10-6 record and two playoff games (lost at Pittsburgh) while the expansion Panthers finished their inaugural season with a strong 7-9 record. The seven victories represented a NFL record and were aided by a hard hitting Carolina defense that finished the 1995 season ranked third overall. The Panthers looked to be the Bills Jr. in their first season as GM Bill Polian signed Frank Reich, Don Beebe, Pete Metzelaars, Carlton Bailey, Eddie Fuller and Nate Turner. Only Bailey made it to the Panthers’ second season. The 1996 Bills still had many of their star players from the Super Bowl years. The starting offense read; Jim Kelly, Andre Reed, Steve Tasker and Thurman Thomas behind a front “O” line of Fina, Brown, Hull, Ostroski and Parker with third year man, Corey Louchiey expected to see a lot of action. Darick Holmes and Eric Moulds were ready for future starting roles. The Buffalo defensive front looked formidable and featured Phil Hansen, Ted Washington, Bruce Smith, Bryce Paup, Jim Jeffcoat and newcomers Chris Spielman with draft choice Gabe Northern expected to provide depth. Weak spots on the Bills’ squad were TE (Lonnie Johnson), fullback (Tim Tindale) and a secondary (Burris, T. Smith, Henry Jones & K. Schultz) that had actually improved to a 16th place ranking in the league for 1995 while giving up more yardage (3,864) than in the previous four seasons. Ted Washington anchored a rookie laden (preseason) defensive line consisting of Sean Moran, Shawn Price, Tim Colston and Juan Hammonds along with backup Ed Philion. Sam Rogers was the leading candidate for the ROLB position. John Holocek (IR) is out of the picture and Cornelius Bennett is gone so Marlo Perry, David White and Damien Covington are all vying for starting positions. The Game: The Bills achieved their first preseason shutout since 1980 and handed the Panthers their first shut out in 24 games. Despite Jim Kelly’s tipped ball interception on his first pass the Bills first unit looked good scoring on their second procession (Lonnie Johnson – 29 yards) for the third TD drive in four preseason drives. Bard Van Pelt (10-12, 108) and Todd Collins (10-11, 138) both put in solid performances and Collins seemingly lost the “happy feet” that have been plaguing him up till now. The Bills led 7-0 at halftime. Bills scoring in the second half: 1. Brad Van Pelt led a seven-play, 58 yard drive capped by a Christie 37-yard FG (10-0) 2. Todd Collins led a 6-play, 49 yard drive ending in a 2-yard TD run by Carey Bender. (17-0) 3. Collins followed up with a 36 yard pass to Henry Bailey (FA) (24-0) Cary Bender led the rushers 12-37 as the Bills only rushed for 94 yards of which 25 was on a scramble by Todd Collins. Eric Moulds caught 4 balls for 82 yards; Lonnie Jonson 3-38, Robert Coons 3-19 and Jay Riemersma 2-24 as the tight ends got a workout The Bills defense consistently stuffed the Panther’s running game while Shawn Price, Sean Moran (1 Int) and Gabe Northern kept Kerry Collins (13-22, 175, 1 Int) under pressure. John Kasay missed two field goals (47, 36) Post Game Observations (by the author back then): Corey Louchiey had an off night – OK for him – bad for his QB. Louchiey gave up two outside rushes that Todd Collins felt – including one sack If Henry Bailey doesn’t make the final squad – someone has screwed up. (he didn’t – went on to the NY Jets – to no effect) Jim Kubiak, a former Hamburg player got a few snaps as the Carolina mop-up but will return to Annapolis. (Later Arena League QB) Phil Hansen (shoulder) played his first game of the preseason while Bruce Smith sat out with a sore groin.
  13. Will Rogers said something to the effect 'I like one newspaper towns - why be bothered with a second opinion ?' I couldn't find it - but there was this one "I read about eight newspapers in a day. When I'm in a town with only one newspaper, I read it eight times." For a nice list of Will's quips & quotes - http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/w/will_rogers.html

  15. Is this common in pets nowadays? Are there any risks to waiting and letting it fall out on its own? Or should I just bite the bullet and shell out he cash for the kitty dentist, no matter how ridiculous that sounds? CW 729144[/snapback] It's common for vets to sell you add-on services to make you think you are a better owner. I had many a vet tell me I should be brushing my dog's teeth. None of them died of tooth decay or from incessantly gumming kibble. What do you pay for your, personal teeth cleaning ? (without deductible) Your choppers - with proper care will last 60-70 years - a cat (under elightened care) may last 8 - 10
  16. My grandfather was a Civil Engineer for the State of New York - helped electrify the Adirondacks in the 30's and '40's - after he retired from the US Army. He was percise, proper German in all respects (he fought in WW1 with Pershing) and as an engineer he was an exacting master - the simplest home repair became an excerise in percision. But every once in a while - he'd let slip his version of humor into a situation http://www.workjoke.com/projoke27.htm The fourth joke down (about the telegraph) was one of his
  17. That used to be Hammer's "signature" Something about Don Julio and zippers - sounds painful
  18. Not only is it accurate - but very representative of my neighborhood. Then again, we get a lot of activity in the area because of the many condos - but even the stand alone home prices are reasonablly accurate. Maybe the broad data base of many sales helps their averaging. My immediate square mile probably sees 50+ sales per year. And, no - to my knowledge - people are not moving because of me (although there was that dead cat head thing )
