Good Lord....did any of you watch any of the first 4 games this season? Trent had a slump that he couldn't shake out of in the middle of the season...ok, fine. But he took the team on a game-winning drive against Oakland, brought the team back from behind against the Rams, and led a game-winning drive and threw a game-winning TD against Jacksonville. He has it, if you ask me. QB is not the problem right now. Coaching is the biggest difference. Both plays that Whisenhunt challenged & won would have never been challenged by Jauron.

Near OT game in Super Bowl got me thinking
BuffaloWings replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Of course, I'd rather play offense. But you can't assume that just because you lose the coin toss and don't get the ball first that you have no chance to win. You have a defense for a reason....to stop the opponent's offense and get the ball back. Yes, they have been rare, but there have been games won in OT by a team's defense. If Nate Odomes didn't pick off a Warren Moon pass, would the Bills have won the Comeback Game? Matt Hasselbeck opened his mouth against Green Bay and then threw a pick-6 to lose in the playoffs. I think we're all too focused on how OT games have ended on the first possession and we're way too "politically correct" (I don't have a better word/phrase) in thinking that it's not fair to the other team. It's not as if the loser of the coin toss gives up. -

Way too gimmicky for me and hard to follow for the average fan. Jim in Anchorage jests that we imagine McNabb trying to follow this, but if there are fans & players who don't realize there can be a tie in the NFL, how do you think we'll all be able to follow this complex scheme? I still say go with a full quarter and play it like it's the 4th quarter. Do the coin toss and play. Not hard at all to me. -

But the defense can return an INT or fumble for a touchdown, or at least force a turnover. It's less likely, but it still is giving them a chance to score. Tony Dungy commented on this after he lost to SD in overtime...his defense didn't do their job to stop the Chargers, so they deserved to lose. I don't mind the way things are today and don't think there's really a need for change, IMO. That said, if they *must* make a change, I'd rather see them just play another quarter w/o it being sudden death, like nucci said. It's just like playing another 4th quarter to give both teams a chance. The "extra innings" format you described would be the next preference for me, but there's no need to go further than that. -
Ten thoughts on Super Bowl 43
BuffaloWings replied to lets_go_bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It wasn't a forward pass....Warner lost control of the ball and his hand pushed it forward. I thought at the time that you could make a case for challenging the play, but it was clear to me that it was a fumble. No sense in delaying the inevitable. It's too bad Warner didn't get that pass away - imagine winning the Super Bowl on a hail mary??? -
Why not review what was called a Kurt Warner fumble?
BuffaloWings replied to LGB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Al Michaels said they confirmed it with a booth review, but I don't know if that was announced by the referee or how he got the word. It doesn't matter, anyway. It was a fumble. No need to throw conspiracy theories out there on this one. -
And even bigger than that, without Ralph Wilson, there is no AFL....or it fizzles away like the USFL did. The NFL would likely not be what it is today without Ralph's efforts. As for Bruce, first ballot was a no-brainer to me. He was one of most dominating DEs ever and always had to be game-planned around. That's a Hall of Famer in my book.

You're not the only one with that pet peeve.

To me, it's kinda hard to say that someone with zero NFL experience can be considered elite. Also hard to say....Ngata looks good in Baltimore, but would we expect that our defense would be so much better with him?

Best Super Bowl team you ever saw
BuffaloWings replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Of the teams I *remember* watching, this team was the best....by far (first SB I remember was XIV). The 49ers of Super Bowl XXIV probably come in second, but not even close to the 85 Bears. -
Well, that same supporting cast won 4 out of their last 5 to get in the playoffs (albeit with some help) and then took them to within 7 minutes of the Super Bowl. I love McNabb and I've always been a fan of him, but there's no sense in trading for him right now. He won't be the veteran backup to help Edwards and because he's in his early-mid 30s, I'd fear it would be another Bledsoe situation all over again. Perhaps McNabb would work out better for a little bit longer because he has some mobility, but eventually, his physical skills will decline. Edwards is the man. Someday, we're all going to have to realize that.

Which is really the main case (IMO) for Marv, Kelly, Thurman, Bruce, & Andre....and possibly Tasker. There were members of those teams that played huge roles to fill in, but the core of the team (those I listed above) should all be in the Hall.

Some funny & not so funny stuff from Graham's chat
BuffaloWings replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd be pi**ed if I was Tim Graham. Looks like nobody took that chat seriously. -
I think it's more of a "cautious pessimism" for me....I'm afraid that nothing significant will happen during free agency or the draft. I'm more concerned about the team we'll have going into training camp, so I'm just curious to see what will happen. If we get a player or two in free agency and the draft yields something I'd like to see, then I'll have some excitement going into the season.

The funny thing about this...Adam Schefter reported that Shanahan was not going to coach next year, period. Yet, ESPN kept reporting that Shanahan was close to an agreement with KC. This was according to Mike Francesa on WFAN last night. Lends a lot of credibility to Clayton, Mort, et al, doesn't it?

Who Wants to be a Dallas Cowboy?
BuffaloWings replied to WVUFootball29's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As are most "reality" shows. What burns me about these shows is that they are labeled as "reality" because all the show does is follow the contestants' life throughout the duration of the show's existence. Then the kids who watch such a show think that's how things really happen (e.g., The Bachelor). Someone explain to me how any of this is close to reality.... [end rant] -
The Steelers are letting Baltimore hang around. I have a feeling we're going to see a Pittsburgh turnover that gives the Ravens a winning score.

I know its AFC championship
BuffaloWings replied to Jim in Anchorage's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Steelers are the superior team (IMO) and they're letting the Ravens hang around. If they lose this game, Limas Sweed should be the sickest man in America. -
What if New England landed up with TO if Dallas were
BuffaloWings replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's like mixing a gas leak and a lighted match. Although, it would be quite fun to watch Owens spread his "cheer" to New England. -
I get the feeling the Ravens are going to be one of these "every 8 year" teams....they're an ok team in between, but there's 1 year in every 8 or so where they end up in or winning the Super Bowl. I'm not ok with Willis McGahee even getting a sniff of the Super Bowl.

Looks to me like TD hired the wrong Pitt assistant

Not to mention, nobody knew who Whisenhunt was in 2004. He got the OC job when Mularkey came here. -
So Arizona is playing with their hair on fire...

Definitely the MVP of the Cards' playoff run. His agent is loving life right now. -
