  1. One thing I don't like about Shanahan, Shotty, Pollien, etc is if you hire the father, for the most part you get the son to. That's OK in itself, until the son stinks up the place and you want to fire him and still keep the ol man. It just ends up being a bad situation all around. Anyone think of any examples where it's worked out well in sports? In fairness Marty didn't wor kout too bad with his son, he was one of the better fits.
  2. When I first read your post, I was shocked that 69% of 1st rounders were successful, then I saw you labeld David Carr a success and realized why the number is so high. Here's where I see a fatal flaw in your logic. First rounders, i.e. David Carr are given much longer rope to prove successful. so it took three years for enough people to see him before they finally gave up on him. Where as a 5th round pick, you may give a few games to and then pul lthe plug if he doesn't look like the next Peyton Manning. Just curious, did Jamarcus Russell pass the three year test and is he labeled franchise?? He had to be close. Using your logic, one could argue there's no reason to even consider another QB as by the end of the 2012 Fitz will have three years under his belt starting, so therefore he'd make your list.
  3. He can't bolt, he's under contract. Typcially NFL won't stop a person from interviewing for a position that is a promotion which in this case GM would clearly be. However if the Bills can show that come May 1st, he'll be their next GM, I doubt the NFL would force the Bill's to let him go. Or the Bill's may allow him to go, but Indy sends the Bills some draft picks (and no I don't expect it to be the #1 pick)
  4. Kind of the same reasons why RW canned him.
  5. He didn't hire Edwards Galley did. FA who sign the first day sign typically at elevated salaries, so unless Buddy knew he had the $$ to spend, sleeping wasn't such a bad thing. Extending Fitz wasn't a bad move. The way he was playing he showed he was worth it. The way he played the 1st half on Sunday again shows he was worth the $$. I'd like to see how he'd do for a full year with a good team around him with minimal injuries. Everyone say's he's a great backup, OK assuming he doesn't work out as a starter, unless you get a Manning type guy in here, whomever you bring in will likely take a couple of years to prove he's a capable starting NFL QB who should be handed the starting job for the next ten years or so. By the time you have someone else here as a QB, Fitz salary as a backup won't look all that bad anyway. Salaries go up so much what looks like a huge contract today, in two years or so becomes an average deal. Granted, not certain with the new CBA how this may change, but my guess is owners will continue to throw money at the one player they think they need to win the Super Bowl.
  6. I thought it signaled the opposite. Bring in someone new with no loyalties to Manning and he can clean house and start over.
  7. What I really think sucks about rule is say the offense is 1st and goal at the four, the defense jumps off sides, half the distance puts the ball at the two, then offense has a false start and you move it back the full five yards. I think there should be some type of adjustment where as if there was a half the distance penalty in one direction, you then can't turn around and assess the full five yards in the other direction.
  8. Don't be greedy! Assuming Kyle Wiliams is healthy and Darius, one pass rusher will do. Chandler at Tight End is OK too. I'd cross those two off your list. I don't think their offensive line is in that bad of shape assuming Woods is back. Hairston looked pretty good for a rookie, give him a year, think he'll be OK. Bell while he's played OK is too much a health risk to count on. So I think ther'd be fine with one O-lineman.
  9. Basically that players should be benched for being selfish and unprofessional. And he wasn't limiting his comments to just Johnson, but more in general to the many it applies to.
  10. You know when I wrote that I kind of thought it didn't sound right. At least his name does start with a "J" I was close, kind of!
  11. So Lynch ran for 100 plus yards as did McGahee; A fumble return for a TD by Youbody; a couple sacks by Maybin; a win by Justin Leonhard. Whitner is playing on the team with the second best record in the league. Am I leaving anyone out! Go Bills!!
  12. Add all the suburbs in that receive NYC TV stations, you're likely up to around 13 million, plus another 2 to 3 million across the river in NJ. The station is ESPN New York City, they just don't officially call it that!
  13. Unless he's due a big March 1st bonus payment, I'd say bring him back. Not much of a downside. I think I'd try to bring in some better depth though so if he doesn't work out, you have a better backup than we do now.
  14. I've heard this argument a few times before. It's usually made by some politician trying to make himself sound like he's all for the fans when he knows it something that will never come about anyway. The problem I have with it I don't see any way you can legally enforce this after the fact. I could see it going to court and assume the group wins, you certainly could change the rules that from now on if you take money you can't black out the game. But with prior money a team could argue that wasn't the rules in effect when I took the money. Had that been the case I wouldn't have taken the money, I just would have moved the team instead. There are plenty of cities who signed these deals where they agreed to buy up all the left over tickets, thus guaranteeing every games a sell out. That's a simple way to fix it if those are the new rules, you take the money, the city promises to the remaining tickets, now all games are sold out so the black out rule never comes into effect and team still gets money for the stadium. Again though likely only the larger cities can afford to do this.
  15. I'd also like to see both Williams and Darius inside at tackle provided you need to get either Shepard or Barnett to play OLB as both are looking too good to not be starting. Having Kelsey at one end also isn't a bad thing and Carrington at the other. I'd then sign a free agent OLB who can rush the passer and draft a CB in the 1st round. I'd then use 2nd round pick on a DE who maybe replaces Kelsey in a year. If Sheppard or Barnett can't play outside, then scrap it, leave Darius at nose and with K Williams, Carrington, and Kelsey at ends. CB's are then A Williams and rookie, with Florence as nickel and McKelvin as dime. I can stomach him as the dime!
  16. It's free because no one can rush and attempt to block, I believe even if there's no time left on the clock, but you call for a fiar catch, you can still attempt the kick. So with three seconds left, the other team punts, you call a fair catch, the clock has run out, but you can still kick it. I seen it used one time maybe 35 years ago by the Giants. (don't recall if they made the kick) Typcially would only work if the other team punts from deep in their own territory and it's not a great punt. I think the othe rteam can run it back so that's the one down side of it.
  17. Are some of those guys like Bell, Johnson, Pears restricted FA? If so, Johnson was a 7th rounder, would that mean a team would only need to give up a 7th? Not sure what rules have changed either with the new CBA??
  18. Totally agree, look how much cheaper Johnson, Losman and Edwards were
  19. People mentioned Benett and Lofton, but neither of them played a whole lot their first year here. It took a year and an off-season for them to figure things out.
  20. I don't know if the problem is George Edwards or the talent he has to work with. I think as the year goes on, guys like Darius, Sheppard, the DB who got hurt, will improve. Even Battern and Moats if they keep playing will improve. Add a 1st round CB in the draft and 2nd round inside LB, next season the defense could start to look pretty good.
  21. Well guess I was wrong!
  22. the only debate is whether the Bengel touches Scott while Scott twas down.
  23. Is this actually the first game this year that we're favored? I didn't recall us being the fav over Oakland and certain we weren't @ KC??
  24. Every QB and team in the league does the same. The difficult part is figuring it out. That's what make's Fitz different than many QB's, his smarts allows him to find the ope nguy.
  25. You want to not have people belittle and disagree with you, try getting you facts right to start with. He took a TO to prevent the clock from running which was smart thing and actually was rather impressive that after having a long heated argument with the official, he still had the presense of mind to take the TO. Many a coach oin that situation would have totally forgot that the clock was running. As was pointed out he shook Chan's hand and even spoke a few words. BB is certainly dull to listen to, but as was stated part of his dullness is due to never throwing anyone under the bus. so he pretty much says nothing. I've never seen a team make less "bulletion board" material statments. So tell me what should BB have done to make him be a better sport in your eyes. Should he not have argued with the official. Well yes that would make him a better sport, but he clearly is far from the first to argue a call. At tthis leve lall coaches argue, Well maybe not DJ As far as the cheating comments go, the only difference between him and other NFL coaches was that he got caught.
