  1. It sure has been fun reliving this game. I've been to hundreds of sporting events over the years but none better than this one. Watching drunk fans try to scale the fencing once the comeback started to unfold is a great memory. I had an opportunity to talk to a few Oilers in preparing my story for the NYT and this is still a bitter pill for them, even 20 years later. Chris Dishman told me that w/o the Beebe play The Comeback never would have happened. But I looked back to the record and noticed that it was a first down play at the Houston 38. Who is to say that if that call was reversed that they still wouldn't have scored on that drive? The Bills were unstoppable in the 2nd half. The other thing I noticed in looking at the play by play is how often Houston was throwing the ball in the 2nd half. The Henry Jones INT, for example, came on 1st down at their own 15 yard line. Easy to Monday morning Qb 20 yrs later, but they (obviously) should have been trying to eat more clock! But the run and shoot offense wasn't about TOP.
  2. Hahaha! Hilarious. Funny thing is, if you did bring all those guys back I doubt they'd be any worse than Chan and all the other losers we've had. I think Kelly could lead the team to a 6-10 record.
  3. Take a look at the coaching resume of some of the best head coaches in the league and you'll see that some, if not many of them got fired from various gigs and/or coached a bunch of lousy teams before landing the gig were they were dubbed a great coach. Reich is one of many guys they should consider, but again, some of the very top guys might not want to be part of turning this franchise around. It's not like the Bills can simply pick whomever they want.
  4. As I said, not sure he's ready to be a head coach, but I think he could fit in a couple roles. QB coach would be an obvious choice but he was WR coach in AZ, so I suppose he could fit in there as well. Or as a scout. Looks like he and everyone else in AZ got fired today too.
  5. I don't think Reich can be blamed for the fact that AZ wasn't good this year- not like he was their head coach or OC. Steve Tasker is another former Bill that is a very astute football mind. I think the thing that some of you are forgetting is that many top coaches who have never lived in Buffalo have a negative opinion of the place and don't want to move there. Guys like Reich and Tasker know that it's a good place to live and might actually accept a job there if offered one.
  6. Reich is on the coaching staff in Arizona. I don't know if he's ready to be a head coach but I've always thought of him as a super bright guy who would make a great head coach one day. Why not bring a guy like this back to Buffalo now? We certainly need some new blood.
  7. Good stuff, guys, thanks. After the Bills won that one, I remember how we were called a "team of destiny." I also recall how some people wanted Frank Reich to continue on as the starter, even after Kelly was ready to go again. Looking back, it was a total team comeback, but the fact that they were missing Kelly, Biscuit and Thurman for most of the second half makes it even more remarkable. Reich was a great guy and a pretty darn good QB too. He could do no wrong in the 2nd half of the game.
  8. I don't think that's strange at all. We live and die with the Bills in WNY and it's easy to see how a game like that could have helped you through a really hard time.
  9. It's depressing to talk about the current team, so let's turn back the clock in advance of the 20 year anniversary of "The Comeback." I'm writing a story about this game and would like to incorporate some stories about how fans experienced the game. Everyone in WNY old enough to remember this game has a story about that day. I was at the game and almost left at 35-3- Thank God I didn't! What's your story?
