What is White’s dead money cap hit if he’s traded/cut/retired?

I was going to come here and say the same. Jordan’s teammates used to talk about how competitive he was and it didn’t matter what he was competing at, he just had to win. And would keep playing whatever it was until he won. Josh’s teammates say the same: Josh is ultra competitive and hates to lose. But the biggest difference between Jordan and Allen’s personalities is that Jordan didn’t care if he was likeable, or wasn’t your friend. I get the sense that Allen wants to be on good terms with everyone in the building. Lastly, if Jordan’s killer instinct and refusal to lose was a 10, I’d put Allen at a 5.

He’s not a quick twitch WR, but if Davis was faster and more explosive, he would’ve got away from #32, but #29 will catch just about every guy in the league since he had a head start. Maybe a freak like Tyreek Hill could run away from everyone there. Maybe. I think even he gets caught though.

I’d like to know what it is about McD that deserves such belief from Pegula? When he was first hired I heard he suddenly had all the power and was the one making the picks for the Bills in the 2017 draft with the help of Whaley’s staff. New coach coming in should’ve picked a new QB as well, right? But no, didn’t trust Whaley’s staff well enough for their QB rankings so he traded the #10 pick to KC and picked Tre White at the back of the first round. This despite Terry reportedly being absolutely enamored with Mahomes. Why the contract extension when it was clear the Bills were showing signs of regression since the :13 second debacle? That game alone would’ve raised my eyebrows as the owner of the team. “Can’t coach well enough to stop a team from getting into FG range in only 13 seconds??” That game in many ways was more devastating than home run throwback because it required a multitude of bad decisions for the Chiefs to get into FG range. McD is not a bad coach, I think he’s a better version of Marvin Lewis, but he’s absolutely not a championship winning leader as I type this message today. Maybe he figures it out with his next team, but I think he’s ran his course in Buffalo.

You’re missing the point. I’m not comparing Josh to those QBs, he’s accomplished so much more obviously. My point was that the offensive personnel he has to work with is superior to what those guys are working with as well as others not mentioned. We’d love for Josh to be protected by an impenetrable oline, to be throwing to two #1 wide receivers, to be handing the ball off to an all world RB, the offense should be easy in that setup but if he needs all of that for the offense to be counted on game after game, then we’re in trouble. If Hopkins was the intended target on that Harty INT last night, we’d get the same result. Ditto for the last game where Allen tried to throw to Davis in the honey hole. The Jets INTs? I mean we could go on and on. If he was sharper mentally and dedicated himself to really breaking down defensive film and tendencies, to the point he knew where his answers always were in any given coverage, I’d be shocked if the offense didn’t look much better. I wasn’t excited by the Dorsey firing, because I don’t expect the offense to suddenly improve by leaps and bounds. Throws were available in Dorsey’s offense as well, but the execution was lacking. I would’ve been far more excited if I had read that McD had been relieved of his duties. We’ll see what happens under Joe Brady, but I surmise we’ll have many of the same complaints.

He’s already said this was his fear in watching too much film. That he’d rather play on instincts and react to what he’s seeing than overindulge in film. Well, that approach hasn’t been working against the decent teams and lately hasn’t been working against the bad ones. I do agree that coaching changes are needed, I think this staff and Josh have already peaked and are now on the downslope of the mountain.

I’ve already been saying that. I struggled to put all of the blame on Dorsey because the throws are there to be made, but the execution is lacking. There’s a reason Brady never really fell off as a carousel of offensive coordinators cycled through the Patriots. “A great QB can make an average coach (and the players around him) look better than they are” is true more often than the inverse: “a great coach can make an average QB (and the players around him) appear better than they are.” I’m not saying Josh isn’t a great QB, he is, we’ve seen it… but he’s not playing great football right now.

I don’t agree. He’s not surrounded by Mac Jones, Bryce Young, CJ Stroud type of no name talent. And while it would be nice to surround him with more game breakers and a wall of an oline, he does have enough now to consistently move the ball and score points. Many of his strange INTs come without pressure in his face, which suggests that he’s not reading the defense correctly. If he was more of a student of the game he’d know where to go with the ball when the defense gives a certain look. You’d see less double clutching and plays that take over 3+ seconds to get rid of the ball. More importantly you’d see less turnovers which are an absolute killer. If he spent every waking moment studying film in the offseason, I’d say it’s a good bet that we’d see a sizable jump in his mental processing the very next season.

As a young pup, Josh worked relentlessly to improve. Mostly from a physical and fundamental standpoint. In 2020, the pandemic year with empty stadiums, he came in on a tear, surprising us all. I remember being absolutely “wowed” by him in that SF game and thought at the time “this guy is gonna be scary good.” Even after the 13 second debacle, the team rebounded the next season and looked to be a force… then the MNF game against GB happened and nothing has been the same since halftime of that game. When Josh came into this offseason saying he had never been as focused on football as he is now, I thought it was an interesting comment and didn’t know what to make of it. Some here speculated that when a player makes a comment like that, the inverse is often true - the player is not all in, but is saying so as to convince himself and others. Josh has never been great at reading the field, knowing where to go with the ball immediately after the snap, and getting it out on time, but I haven’t seen him look this lost since his rookie year. Quote all the stats you want to tell me how much I’m wrong, but Josh looks like he’s going through some things on a personal level. This offseason he needs to shut it all down, all the extra-curriculares, and become a film watching junky. Really dive into the complexities of defenses to see how coordinators are defending you, what’s working, what’s not working, where his eyes should be based on a given look, etc. become a real student of the game. Aaron Rodgers said “if you want to have sustained success, you need to know defenses as well as your own offense.” I don’t care if Allen doesn’t want to lift or focus on his body, the improvement needs to be upstairs, between his ears, if he’s going to see his vivid dream of the Bills having a Super Bowl parade come to fruition.

I was wondering at what point do we tune in more for entertainment versus hoping for a W? At what point do we start rooting for a high draft pick? They have a murderers row of games coming up and no chance at winning a championship this year. Is 5-5 too early to start rooting against Ws like I did during the drought?

It can’t have a title because the game wasn’t big enough… UNLESS McD is canned tomorrow which we know won’t happen. It’s just another inexcusable loss on the season.

Yep, coaching has officially lost the players. You fumble and then get benched while others make mistakes without consequence? Selective doghouse.

Should be the same 11 out there every time so I don’t get it… actually, Cam Lewis got hurt and was probably part of that unit, so somehow two players must have gone in for him.

Impossible. I believe it was @GoBills808 who said that no other QB in the league was playing as well as Allen.

The draft is a total crapshoot. Even the most optimistic Ohio St fans wouldn’t have told you that Stroud would threaten the annals for the best rookie QB season ever. I’d be upset if I was a Panther fan. It’d feel like having your choice of Aaron Rodgers or Alex Smith and your franchise opts for Smith. The NFC is due to hit on some good QBs. The wealth needs to spread to that conference.

Everyone moves the ball at will against the Chargers. If we struggle against them…

I’ve never “trashed” Allen, but if a post doesn’t always paint him as a Buffalo savior you have an issue with it. It’s fair to critique his play objectively. How about you give it a rest and let me have an opinion on a message board?

I guess you’re just around for the negative things I say 😅 I’ve said plenty of positive things about Allen and will continue to do so when his play warrants praise.

What he’s doing as a rookie QB is unprecedented. Last week I said I’d entertain the idea of trading Josh for Stroud and a 1st, but if Buffalo went to Houston and wanted to do a straight up trade, Houston would say “no thanks, we’re good.”

Oh, so we were arguing the same point. Allen is not playing on a higher level than ALL other QBs in the league, but then you asked “who’s playing better?” as if to imply the statement was true. Shouldn’t have asked if you were in agreement. Also, again, I didn’t say Allen’s play was the core problem with the offense, I said it contributed to part of the problem. He is missing reads, he is missing potential TDs, he hasn’t always been patient in the pocket, those are all true. As to what would move the needle? I’d like to immediately look at “coaching,” but seeing open receiving options that are being passed up gives me pause. Maybe that is a fault with the coaches, they’re not teaching Allen properly, who knows. None of us are in those meetings. I think the obvious answer is your last bullet point. If resources over the last four years had gone to that side of the ball AND Beane had hit on the picks/signings, they’d be so good it wouldn’t matter if Allen missed reads or TDs. They’d get it on the next play. Or the one after that.

Allen is an all star, Edmunds was never close to that status. Obviously. The back and forth about who’s responsible for the lack of production (or struggles) is what was giving me the Edmunds vibes. I criticized Edmunds when he was here and was given a myriad of excuses as to why he was coming up short, or not making plays. I criticize Allen’s play when it’s warranted as well, but others here want to blame everyone but him. Allen shares blame for why the offense is struggling, he’s the guy who touches the ball on every single play. It’s that simple. He’s not entirely to blame and those around him can do better. That’s also an obvious take. That’s the parallel between the two players, Edmunds and Allen, discussion wise. And if you think Allen has been playing on a higher level than Kermit over in KC, that’s a strong disagree. Allen may be ahead of him in stats, but to my eye there’s no other QB doing more with a worst supporting cast. Those WRs have failed him time and time again, they probably lead the league in drops. He has that special sort of magic that Allen has, but with even more consistency. I wish we could play out the entire season with Allen and then play out the season again with Mahomes. Same opponents. The only way to do that is in Madden, but for those who believe Allen is a superior QB or has been playing better than Pat, I firmly believe they’d be in for a huge awakening.

They’ve both played 8 games and have 40 and 43 receptions respectively. Unfortunately for Kincaid he was injured and didn’t suit up for the NYG game, so Laporta has a chance to distance himself even more once the Lions play their 9th of the season.
