  1. It’s simple: due to the history of this country, people will always be more sympathetic/willing to look the other way if a black man calls a white man a “cracker.” When a white man calls a black man a “n!gger,” there’s weighted history there. A dark period in this nation’s past. A slur is a slur and neither one is right, but since the white man has never been oppressed like their colored counterparts, the derogatory slurs will never receive the equal reaction you’re looking for.
  2. I wonder if the Bills are having any buyer’s remorse. Star is strictly a “space eater” and a small one at that (6’2” 315). He averages about 1 tackle per game. His backup, Harrison Phillips, was much more productive, stats wise, in fewer reps. Mount Washington, all 6’5 365 pounds of him, was truly a space eater and managed to average over 3 tackles per game. I heard the Bills are starting to group Jordan Phillips more often with Ed Oliver. He is actually a bigger body than Star. I wonder as the season progresses if Jordan proves to be more valuable than the 7th highest paid DT. We shall see!
  3. Belichek isn’t throwing those clutch passes on the field. There’s only so much a coach can do, the players have to execute and he has arguably the greatest of all time at the most important position on the field. Some will point to Belichek’s 13-6 record without Brady and I’d say that sort of success wouldn’t be sustainable. I’d use his record as head coach prior to Brady taking the field to support my argument.
  4. You’re thinking of a young, 20 something year old elite OT rather than the older, expensive one who now has an injury history. EDIT: oops, that was me who made the comment! ?
  5. Only unless we can fleece Washington by offering Dawkins and a 2nd.
  6. Anyone else hear the report about the Ravens failed trade up? Happened during the draft where Minnesota missed their pick. Two teams ran to the podium and selected players, the Vikings picked a couple slots later than they were scheduled. The hang up? Minnesota had worked out a trade with the Ravens, the Ravens intended to take Byron Leftwich. Some complications nullified the trade, so Minnesota was late to the podium. The Ravens had to stay at 10 and draft a player at their original slot. They missed out on Leftwich and “settled” for Terrell Suggs. Moral of then story - don’t trade up! Especially for a non QB.
  7. For what it’s worth, he was graded as “below average” by PFF. The #37 center. https://www.profootballfocus.com/nfl/players/spencer-long/8713
  8. At 6'3" 260 Terrell Suggs ran a 4.84 forty. Straight line speed is overrated for a DL. I'm not advocating we take him at 9, but this guy looks like he bends the edge extremely well.
  9. Just tuning in - When did they eliminate tackling in the Pro Bowl?? Just do away with the game already!
  10. I think that’s all DA ever wanted to be. He was tired of getting beat up behind that Bills OL and decided to leave the field for good after this “concussion”
  11. One of the following DTs is not like the others... https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/W/WillKy20.htm https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/L/LotuSt00.htm https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/P/PhilHa00.htm https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/P/PhilJo01.htm (12 games)
  12. He’s coming along. What I would like to see in the offseason is for him to add 10 pounds to his frame. You look at others who are similar in height - Hopkins, Watkins, Julio Jones, they all go about 210 pounds and up. He looks so slight on the field at his size. I’d also like to see him develop a meaner/nastier edge.
  13. Haven't been watching this game, but I just looked up the box score. Good god. One of these days the Bills will stumble into a really good QB. And here's the thing - the best QBs have ALWAYS been available without any extra effort on the part of the franchise: Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Kirk Cousins, Patrick Mahomes, Deshaun Watson. They all fell into the Bills lap (or would have fell in the case of Rodgers). One of these days, guys. One of these days. Sure, we may all be dead by then, but it's gonna happen. We're gonna find a blue chip QB.
  14. When I heard the Browns were deciding between drafting Allen or Mayfield, I actually felt sorry for Browns fans, thinking that organization would screw up by taking the biggest question mark in the draft. I didn’t like Allen and it wasn’t because of the often referenced accuracy issues, I didn’t like him as a prospect due to his decision making. He failed to look like a man among boys in the Mountain West conference and often struggled to throw for 200 yards. He’s a Buffalo Bill now, so I’m going to continue hoping he miraculously turns into something he never was, but if he doesn’t, the Bills deserve to toil in mediocrity.
  15. The slot wasn’t the preferred read on that play. There’s a safety playing robber and if NP threw to Zay, the play would’ve ended in a violent collision or potentially a tipped pass/interception. Where NP should have gone with the ball is the TE, Charles Clay. The 11th defender was over the top of Benjamin, so if that pass went to Clay, it would’ve been a huge gain. Problem is, NP makes a decision where he’s going with the ball presnap. It’s why he looks decisive, but is also why he throws so many INTs. He never progresses through his reads post snap.
  16. I didn’t realize the Browns found a starting LT from the UDFA pool. The Austin Proehl pick really irked me at the time, especially after having selected Ray Ray McCloud a round earlier. Would’ve been nice to take a swing on an athletic freak of an offensive tackle with that 7th round pick.
  17. I’m not sure he has a single tackle in 2 games, meanwhile our 3rd round rookie DT has 6. Star doesn’t plug up the middle or free up LBs to run, he’s just a warm body making $10M per year. The warning signs were there, he had 16 total tackles last season for the Panthers. The drop off from his rookie season can’t be ignored.
  18. Reminds me of the time the Bills tried to sign Titans backup QB Billy Volek and he declined the chance to start in Buffalo to remain a backup with the Thumbtacks.
  19. I’m not trying to lead anyone down any path, nor did I come to a hasty conclusion. Perhaps you didn’t read the original post in its entirety.
  20. I tried finding the original article by Michael Silver, but it doesn’t seem to exist anymore. Anyway, I haven’t heard similar stories from other QBs, so hopefully Daboll’s mistreatment of Colt McCoy was a singular incident. Josh Allen mentioned his coordinator was very energetic and always in his ear, but he welcomed that style of coaching. Perhaps this is a non-story in 2018, or maybe it’s something to keep an eye on... “There were times I had to pull my helmet off to call a play in the huddle,” McCoy recalled in an interview earlier this month. “Guys could hear him yelling, and they’d say, ‘Just take it off.’ People said to me, ‘Man, I ain’t never seen anything like that. Just hang in there.’” Brian Daboll was an a-hole in Cleveland Daboll’s rough treatment of Colt McCoy And then there was this, from an interview with a KC reporter... Q: In the last week, we've talked to a lot of people in Cleveland and Miami in the media that worked with you, and really high reviews from a lot of the local people. However, when you Google Brian Daboll, one of the first things that comes up is a Mike Silver article about harsh treatment of Colt McCoy. Can you maybe talk about your relationship with Colt and if the article was fair and if so, why there was that dynamic? DABOLL: "The relationship with most of the players that I've coached, I have a very, very good relationship. Colt and I have a good relationship. It's not a bad relationship. I think there are certain times when you're a coach and sometimes emotion can get to you that maybe you step back and say, 'Boy, I would rather have handled it that way rather than this way,' but I think the job as a coach is to tell the players what to do, show them how to do it and really not accept any excuses. It's an emotional game, and just like certain things in my life, not just football, some things I wish I would have done differently here and there, but I have a lot of respect for Colt as well as the other guys that I've coached. I'm a high energy, up-tempo guy. I expect perfection. I know that's not possible all the time, but I think we need to all hold ourselves to a high standard of really setting the tone and expecting the highest detail and the highest execution from all of ourselves." Q&A with Brian Daboll
  21. Even after getting Allen, Beane still won't give you the order of how he ranked the QBs, which is fine. You want everyone to believe you got your guy.
  22. Denver was rumored to be very high on Rudolph. I can't blame them for passing in the 2nd and taking WR Courtland Sutton, but they had a chance to nab him in the 3rd, but opted for RB Royce Freeman. For their sake I hope Rudolph doesn't pan out... Actually, screw the Broncos, I hope Rudolph does pan out so their fans can lament the fact they took a RB over a starting QB. Shades of TJ Graham over Russell Wilson.
  23. Yeah, Boat, that was my question earlier - are teams given an opportunity to counter an offer? Or is it a blind bidding war? I'm inclined to believe it's the latter, because I don't believe AZ was offering more than a 1st and a 2nd for pick 7. Our picks were higher in both rounds, so 12 and 56 should've got the deal done. The fact that Tampa could backtrack from their request of both firsts tells me that offers are made blind. Beane didn't know what AZ was offering, so he capitulated with a deal he could live with, one that would secure pick 7.
  24. According to Peter King, AZ wasn't interested in spending a 2nd round pick to move up. How serious were they about moving up? And then there's this quote from Giants GM Dave Gettleman: Oh well, what's done is done. I just found it interesting the Bills parted with more draft capital than what was (likely) necessary.
  25. Oh yeah, I agree. The most expensive chart - Jimmy Johnson's - says it should've only taken 12 and 56 to move up to 7. I realize things are inflated because it is a QB's market, I'm just wondering if the Cardinals were offering a sweeter deal than their first and their 2nd. Is it a blind deal, wherein the best offer wins even if it means you're giving up too much? Or would the Bills be allowed to counter whatever offer the Cardinals had on the table? Didn't sound like Beane was bidding against the Cards, it sounded like he was proposing whatever deal he found necessary to move up.
