Used to say Edmunds was an above average linebacker based solely on his measureables, not his instinct or ability to read plays, but now I think he is in fact average. If Beane can trade him for a 1st he truly is a wizard.

It is interesting to think about where the team would be if another QB, say Mitch Trubisky, had played all 13 games. I disagree with those who say we’d be a 3 win team and in contention for a top 5 draft pick. There’s still enough talent across the board for this team to beat up on lesser ones like the Texans and Jets, BUT I don’t think we blow out WFT, KC, or NO with Trubisky. I still think we win at least 2 of those games, but may split with the Dolphins. At least two of those one score losses wouldn’t be by one score, but likely double digits (Bucs, Titans). I count 5 wins with Trubisky, the two games I’m undecided on are KC and the second Dolphins game. Could Trubisky have won any of the one score games Josh lost? Sure, JA was off in a few of those, but the rest of the team also played poorly. That’s to say we didn’t lose any of those because of Allen. I think with Trubisky we might be looking at a 6-7 record right now. Josh is more than a +1 difference in wins compared to Trubisky, but with this schedule and how the defense dictated terms in many of the Ws, I’m sure we’d still have 6 wins with Mitch.

One other thing that needs to be addressed is WR
Brand J replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
If Sanders walks after this year, I think Hodgins will surprise in a good way when he’s on the field. Supposedly he has some of the best hands on the team and is just as smart as Gabe in terms of knowing all the positions. His downfall so far has been availability. -
His lack of awareness in zone is one of his biggest problems. If he’d just recognize routes coming into his area and jump on that receiver, he’d be far more impactful than standing in a spot and running to the ball after the catch is made. He’s a coverage linebacker who isn’t great in coverage. His length and athleticism are his greatest attributes but he hardly uses them.

Week 14 Gameday Bills at Buccaneers Second Half thread

Wasn’t it McD who punted in the snow game a couple years ago with the playoffs on the line? This is who he is. -

If the Bills knew Parsons would be this productive, would they have mortgaged the future to move up from 30? -
Primary Cause of Bills losing to Patriots/Colts/Titans/Steelers
Brand J replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
I feel like - and I may be totally wrong here - if the Bills had picked up the yard on the QB sneak and beaten the Titans, they most certainly would not have lost to the Jags and would be playing better football than they are currently. They were dominating that game against the Titans before McDermott declined the holding call on 2nd and 10. Very next play on 3rd and 10 was the bomb to Julio Jones that bounced off Hyde’s helmet and everything changed after that. Or maybe they are what they are: a wildly inconsistent team that essentially gave away the first game of the year. In hindsight it was a bit of a microcosm of the season thus far. -

It’d be sweet if the Bills defense had an emotional leader (like Ray Lewis/Takeo Spikes/London Fletcher/etc) whose play on the field backed up their persona. There’s not one guy on this defense who instills fear or causes the opposition to game plan against. Tre White is closest to that, but even he can’t stop the upper echelon WRs alone. In fact, no corner in Goodell’s modern day NFL can truly take away an entire side of the field. The defense needs a heartbeat, the offense needs dogs along the offensive line. Feliciano is closest to that, but his actual talent is subpar. Back to the drawing board, Beane. Do better with your resources. There needs to be an option for “self inflicted wounds.” -
[Edit] The Obligatory Edmunds Thread (was: Edmunds name-only title)
Brand J replied to beacon's topic in The Stadium Wall
Edmunds is who he is at this point and I don’t see a substantial jump coming at any point in his career. I would absolutely try to trade him this off-season if I were Beane, but I know he won’t because he’d be concerned about team chemistry and would be admitting a mistake. Edmunds doesn’t impact the game enough for me to worry about who’s going to replace him. Put a JAG in there. Could’ve claimed Cunningham for pennies and went that route as well. -
They don’t make many like Mt Washington. He alone would solve many of the run game woes. Dude was immovable.

Zach Cunningham released (Update : Claimed by the Titans)
Brand J replied to billvernsays's topic in The Stadium Wall
Doesn’t surprise me that Cunningham wasn’t claimed. Beane seems to not make any of the obvious moves that could potentially help the Bills succeed (Ertz for a 5th?!) Plus, claiming Cunnigham means cutting someone else and putting Edmunds on notice and we can’t afford to hurt feelings. /sarcasm -
The '21 Bills are sleepwalking to the playoffs
Brand J replied to Hermes's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Bills are 0-4 in one score games. I don’t remember what that record was last year, but it was among the best. They’re just not getting it done this season and I’ve seen too many lethargic attitudes about it - Dawkins, D Williams, Morse, Edmunds, and a few others. Those dudes just seem like they’re collecting checks, doesn’t feel like losing eats at them. -
Could be that Moss and Singletary have been over-coached to get north and south because neither has wheels. Seems like a rookie Zack Moss before the coaching and dog house issues would’ve bounced that run outside and got the TD from 6 yards out.
-
Not only the whiffs on Ford and Teller (and even Spain if you want to add him to that group), but Beane is on record saying they would’ve traded out of this year’s 2nd round pick if Basham wasn’t there (and even wanted to trade UP for him!) Meanwhile Creed Humphrey goes to KC after getting selected later in the round (next pick?) and proceeds to become the highest rated center in the league… as a rookie. Yeah, their IOL evaluations are trash.
-
Also, the last lineman on either side of the ball I remember improving even AFTER he got his big payday was Kyle Williams. We need more of his type on the LoS.
-
Star has been overrated by many, but did begin this year on a tear, consistently making plays in both the run and pass game, but his hot start slowly petered out. Not sure why, it was weeks before his COVID case.

Beane needs to spend serious resources on the OL
Brand J replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Creed Humphrey miss was inexcusable in my eyes. There had been talk about Morse retiring and his concussion concerns, but even forgetting about that, we had a real weakness in the interior OL last year and on paper it looked like Humphrey would be an immediate upgrade somewhere on the line. He tested as an athletic freak. At the time Basham was picked, the Bills DEs were Hughes, Addison, Rousseau, Epenesa, Obada, and Daryl Johnson. Inexcusable double down pick which is further exacerbated by how often Basham is inactive aand/or how little he contributes while on the field. And to make matters worse, had Basham been selected Beane says they had a deal to trade out of the pick. That’s just poor evaluation on his part. -
I wouldn't trade Allen for anyone in the league
Brand J replied to Success's topic in The Stadium Wall
There are a few QBs that are still ahead of him in the mental part of the game, but his physical attributes are second to none. You gotta hope next year good decision making will be further amplified by a better supporting cast. Next year could’ve been this year though, but Beane didn’t make those moves, he just decided to “run it back” with the same roster that failed in the AFCCG. -
[Edit] The Obligatory Edmunds Thread (was: Edmunds name-only title)
Brand J replied to beacon's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’m shocked that none of the usual Edmunds defenders are around in this thread. Never thought I’d see the day where they were silenced. It’s been said over and over, doesn’t matter who’s playing up front to “help” him, he simply lacks the instincts to play the position. I don’t even want to revisit his stats regarding impact plays, or lack thereof, but when an offense runs the ball over 40 times and your starting MLB doesn’t have at least ONE tackle for loss, there’s a problem. Trade him after this year and see what you can get, if Beane is a shrewd GM he’ll do just that. If Edmunds goes into next year without someone else on the roster to challenge his position, this franchise deserves to dwell in mediocrity, and that’s unfair to us fans. -
I wouldn’t say terrible, but he has definitely burned capital trading up for players that either haven’t panned out or are JAGs. I’d categorize his selections as “solid.” His main shortcoming is that he’s only drafted one difference-maker. At least that difference-maker plays the most important position. His upcoming decision on Tremaine Edmunds will cement his player evaluation abilities for me - which to this point has been lacking.
-
Meanwhile Ertz is playing very well with his new team and likely would’ve caught one or both of those passes Knox dropped tonight. He’s also savvy enough to draw a flag in the endzone when a defender is draped all over him. Knox has to sell it better, he was more focused on the pass than drawing a penalty, but the penalty is what he should’ve been after given the DBs aggressiveness.
-
Incorrect. You can either take the ball, choose the side to defend, or defer your choice to the 2nd half. If they took the wind as you suggested, Pats would get the ball first half and would likely decide to have the ball again to start the 2nd half rather than choose which side to defend. If I were the Bills and won the toss on a day like today, I’d choose to receive, the Pats would then be forced to either choose to receive in the 2nd half, or choose which endzone they’d like to defend. It’s likely in this scenario they would’ve taken the ball and Bills would’ve had the wind at their backs in the 4th Q.

Picking up Edmunds Option a Rare Beane Mistake
Brand J replied to Billy Zabka's topic in The Stadium Wall
I knew Edmunds was a poor run defender based on his lack of instincts and ability to get off blocks, but wow, he gets pushed around rather easily. On one play it was either the center or a pulling tight end who pushed him and he went flying about 10 yards out of the play. He’s charmin soft. -
