Micah Hyde seeking 2nd opinion on neck injury
Brand J replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Jaquan Johnson is limited by size and athleticism, but has good instincts and has impressed every time he’s stepped on the field. Ed Reed thought he’d be great at the NFL level, so the time to prove himself may start Sunday against the fastest pair of wideouts in the league. -
I don’t know why I go into McD press conferences expecting to learn something. I love hearing Brandon Beane speak, he’ll tell you some things. McD not so much.

How in the world do you stop this offense?
Brand J replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
I heard the Bills defense got the better of the Bills offense far more days in camp and that the main reason was that the DL was whooping the OL and not giving Allen enough time to cook. That’s how you beat the Bills offense, you have to dominate their OL. Easier said than done though, most teams aren’t super deep in the trenches. Oh and also hope Allen has an off day. -
I would prefer to see Moss moved before the trade deadline, but he likely doesn’t fetch more than a 5oz bag of Sour Patch Kids.

Edmunds…back to back good games. Facts. (Update: Another good game)
Brand J replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall
Then I have no idea why Taron didn’t immediately crash down. The bigger fault is rolling 5 DBs out there against that heavy package. Get some more beef on the DL, or more than two LBers on the field. -

The only way it was possible for Taron to get there is if he had zero responsibility from the WR lined up across him and immediately blitzed from the slot. Even then I’m not 100% sold Taron Johnson stops Derrick Henry. (1:50 mark) -

The puke emoji was for the personnel and the defensive call on 4th and 1. Not your answer. If the Bills run Nickel against goal line packages they’re asking A LOT out of their front 4. Too much even. Match goal line with goal line. Get a bunch of fat d-lineman in there to clog it up, don’t have your MLB playing back, unsure which gap to attack (and there were two that formed), because then you get that situation where he stays home and doesn’t fill either one. -
I actually thought about starting a topic on it and listing the starters on both sides to remind everyone. Figured it was much too early in the season to do it. But I would’ve if the Bills got to 8-0.

2022 Bills vs 2007 Pats. Who ya got?

I just know the Bills aren’t calling nickel on the goal line on 4th and 1 against Derrick Henry. Does someone have the All-22 to look at the defensive personnel on that play? -

If one player has responsibility for two gaps, that’s a flaw in the scheme. Especially in a short yardage or goal line situation. And if that’s the case, I can see why Edmunds just stands there in the endzone rather than attack - he doesn’t know where to go because he has no one specific responsibility. With that said, because it is impossible for one player to cover two gaps on a running down, I wish Edmunds would just make a decision and shoot one of them. Fire through and attack. It looks much worse when your unblocked MLB is standing flat-footed in the endzone while the RB runs right through for a relatively easy 6. I don’t remember which game it was last year (Patriots #1?) but I recall our coaches being frustrated with the linebacker play and openly calling on Milano and Edmunds to shoot a gap and make a play. Not long after Milano had two solid TFLs doing just that. -

But you’d still like to see him attack an open gap on a 4th and 1 at the goal line. We don’t know his assignment, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t “stand flat-footed in the EZ while Henry rushes through uncontested.” I’d rather a guy go all out in making the wrong decision than get caught in no man’s land and make no decision at all. -
I’d be willing to bet their offense will run a lot of WR screens to try to negate our rush and get the ball into the hands of Hill and Waddle as quickly as possible. If I was Frazier, my entire focus this week would be cooking up something to stop the quick passing game.

This is true. But it’s also true that if Edmunds attacked the gap to his right with violence, there’s a good chance Henry doesn’t score (assuming Edmunds puts a hit on him). But I’m not here to whine and complain about the plays he didn’t make after a 34 point win. Solid showing by him and the rest of the defense all around. -
I’d love for Knox to get more. If teams have to start fearing TE production, that’s just too much to think about defensively. Brady loves the TE, Allen has never really thrown to that position as much.

Would like to see Josh target him more, even if there’s only one football to go around.

NFL fines Diggs and Jackson for Unsportsmanlike conduct
Brand J replied to Steel City Mafia's topic in The Stadium Wall
I get policing the game so the optics don’t look bad to children (never mind that athletes aren’t role models), but players should only be fined if it’s an egregious display of taunting (props/sexual/over the top acts). The players should be allowed to trash talk, it’s a grown men’s league. -
Brady always used to be on the injury report with a shoulder. The designation would go on like that for an entire season. I think Belichick was making a mockery of it because one time he didn’t put a player on the report and got in trouble for it.

‘It’s Over!‘: LeSean McCoy Rips Patriots Head Coach
Brand J replied to Scott7975's topic in The Stadium Wall
Belichick is one of the greatest defensive minds to ever coach the sport, but he’s only had two winning seasons without Tom Brady (someone correct me if I’m wrong). Having arguably the greatest QB to ever play the game will elevate any coach to a higher tier and to rub salt in the wound, Brady won the Super Bowl on an entirely different team the very year after he left the Patriots! As great as Belichick’s contributions are to the game, he owes Brady his “god-like” status as HC. I think Belichick is a much better defensive coordinator than he ever was a GM or HC. -
As illustrated in The Athletic, Cook’s first carry had the potential to go for big yardage if he trusted what he saw and followed Singletary through the outside hole. Bills had it blocked great and he only would’ve had the safety at the 45 to beat.

GR reporting both Tim Settle and Ed Oliver not practicing today
Brand J replied to richNjoisy's topic in The Stadium Wall
Settle is a promising player, but seems to get nicked up quite a bit. -
Interior OL is arguably the Bills biggest weakness going forward, but if Bates continues to progress as a player, then that only leaves Saffold to replace and he’s not a bum. Bates gives us more stability at guard than Cody Ford ever did (at least so far). It’s great not to have any glaring roster weaknesses.
-
Wow, a 9 for pass blocking? I mean, there were a few times when Josh held the ball longer, but Bates wasn’t a tire fire. A 9 would suggest he had an outing like Colin Brown, but I didn’t think he was that much of a liability.

Anyone have feedback regarding his play going against arguably the most disruptive DT in the history of the game? I thought he had a pretty good outing. In the highlight package the NFL put together, I zeroed in on him and noticed he was singled up with Donald quite a bit and #99 didn’t embarrass him. Bates held his own for the most part. He was beaten cleanly for a sack, overpowered on that play, and had a couple other miscues where it looked like he didn’t know who to block, but all in all “not bad” for a player who used to ride the bench up until the final stretch last year. I have high hopes for him going forward, the entire OL gave Josh plenty of time throughout the contest, not that it mattered when Josh was getting the ball out in under 3 seconds. Kudos to Kromer.
