OLine/QB Unforced Error All 22 Review - Wild Card - Dolphins
Brand J replied to Bocephuz's topic in The Stadium Wall
Good question, because up until the Patriots game I remember the broadcast saying we hadn’t hit on a long ball in something like 6 games. We hit a couple on the Patriots and against the Dolphins that’s all we were trying to do. I know, I know, cover 0 and all that, but the answer to all out blitzes isn’t the long ball. It’s screens, slants, hitting the RB in the flat, other quick hitters. With the Bills up 17-0, it felt like they wanted to put on a show. Maybe a (false) message to the Bengals…? -

Josh is hardheaded, for sure. His past coaches have said as much. It’s just something we’ll have to live with as fans. I know McD criticized Josh on that John Brown pass and Josh also took ownership of it, but looking back at the overhead view of the play, the throw was absolutely there to be made. It was just a bad ball. A terrible one actually, thrown against the direction where Brown was headed. One could say the QB and the WR weren’t on the same page, but Brown had nothing but green grass to his left and only X back there, not really in position to stop anything. If Allen threw it more towards the middle of the field and not a floater that drifted towards the sideline, it could’ve been an easy uncontested TD. Josh should’ve read that blitz and looked for his hot man (Singletary). Didn’t even see the defender coming until late and then tried to fight his way out of it. -
Curious where his brother is. For as close/combative as they were growing up, he doesn’t seem to be around much. I know everyone has their own life, but his sister and parents are prominent. Could he be… resentful? 😄

One fan over there was calling Damar “Deadmar.” I don’t know if there’s a lower class of message board than CP.

Dawkins was beaten on the Chubb sack/fumble. (14:05 mark) -
If the Fins had played the Ravens on a neutral field this past Sunday, which team wins?

If this interview took place today, Cris would immediately be canceled, placed on leave from the network (with a divorce impending), and sued from women claiming to be his underage victims. None of his words would pass in today’s society.

Hadn’t put those two together, he didn’t want to be on that field with “the others” throwing check down passes. You may be on to something there 😅

Excellent story from ESPN that gives you a deeper dive into the making of Josh Allen. Includes accounts from friends, family, coaches, and former teammates. Co-written by Bills beat reporter Alaina Getzenberg: Untold Tales on the Making of Bills QB Josh Allen

How confident are you the Bills beat the Bengals?
Brand J replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall
Just got back from the CessPool message board. Probably will have to bleach my eyeballs. Anyway, about 90% of them will be pulling for the Bengals to win; not because they think the Bills are a threat, but because they believe the neutral site is BS and it rightfully belongs to them since the Bills “quit” on MNF. They bemoan the suicide of their own Jovan Belcher and the fact the league made no concessions for them, but it’s not striking they can’t tell the difference from a player voluntarily taking his life at a field house, versus one who’s heart stopped on the field in front of millions, playing the game he loves. Oh and the fact the Bengals didn’t want to return to action either is also lost on them. They believe the Bengals are the better team, Burrow is a bigger threat than Allen, and they have no fear of Buffalo without Von Miller. They want to avenge the 0-3 against Burrow at Arrowhead and then punch their ticket to the SB. My dislike of KC is up there, it’s not quite at the level of NE during the Brady years, but I reallllllly want that team to fail. And I want us to be the ones to beat them. The arrogance among that fanbase is ridiculous. -
Andrew Russell @Andrew_Russell7 · Follow With Von Miller, the Bills ranked 4th in the NFL in pressure rate (34.4%) with 4 or less pass rushers. Bill's offense highest graded of the weekend Games. Defense second best.

Didn’t know that at the time. All I knew were the numerous deep shots the Bills were taking and failing to pick up, then here we are with a 3rd and 1 and throwing deep again. That’s why I couldn’t get excited when I saw him launch the ball. I was numbly angry if that makes any sense.
-
When the Bills need 1 or 2 they might go for 30 too 😂 When it was 3rd and 1 and Josh uncorked that long one to Shakir that was completed, I was so numb to the attempt that I couldn’t even celebrate that it was caught. All I could think at the time was “he better have completed that.”
-
It’s who he is and we’ve gotta hope the good outweighs the bad and that he’ll bring home trophies in the process! Correction on his amount of turnovers: he’s had 32 turnover worthy plays, but has turned it over 22 times. 10 fumbles weren’t recovered by the opposition.
-
Have I ever said otherwise?
-
Fumbles are fumbles, whether lost or retained, they keep stats of this. They don’t keep stats of “almost” INTs so that’s a silly argument. If Josh fumbled 32 times but the defense recovered 2, we’d still say “Josh needs to stop fumbling, lucky for us we’ve recovered almost all of them.” There’s nothing misleading about listing the number of fumbles and INTs combined, they’re stats in the record book. And Josh has a combined 32 in the regular season and the playoffs, most in the NFL. It is what it is, despite what you only care about.

The first INT was not on Brown, I don’t know how or why that became the narrative here. Even McD put that on Josh. You also have to see the overhead view of the play to see what’s going on. I didn’t like the throw at the time, but looking back at the overhead view, it was there to be made… if Josh had led him properly. Brown had a field of green in the direction he was running (which was like a deep post), but Josh threw the ball towards the sideline, which got Brown all twisted up. There’s no way that INT was on Brown. The second pass hit a Dolphin’s arm, not Beasley’s chest, but that’s a bit on Cole for not driving back to the ball. Perhaps equal blame for Josh and Cole on that one. It wasn’t all that open of a route, which necessitated coming back to the ball. I would agree that Shakir should have caught that pass, but it wasn’t perfect. If you see the overhead view id the play again, he absolutely roasted his man and got on top of him quickly. A better (or perfect) throw hits him in stride for a TD, not one he had to slow up for. There was not another DB back there, it was a layup deep ball, but not the best throw. Still, Shakir absolutely should’ve caught it. The throw to Gabe deep along the sideline was also not the best, he had a step or two on his man and a better throw goes for 6. It was another ball he had to slow up for and it gave the defender a chance to break up the pass. You’ve absolved Josh Allen of blame on all these passes, everything was perfect or dropped in your eyes, but that’s not the case.
-
I agree, he believes he can get out of any sack and it costs him. Fumbles happen a lot of times when players fight rather than go down. On the same token, we love it when Josh gets out of a potential sack and throws a laser when the rest of the defense lets up, so it’s a catch-22 of sorts.
-
What purpose would I have to intentionally mislead? Why would your mind even consider that? It’s not like I’m an opposing team’s fan trashing on Allen. If anything it’d be that I got the numbers wrong - not intentionally - but just being careless, like the Bills are with the football 😅 I kid. Anyway, he had 14 INTs and 13 fumbles in the reg season. That’s 27. He had 3 fumbles and 2 INTs against the Dols. 27+5, there’s your 32.
-
Didn’t realize how open Shakir was on his drop, a better ball there and it’s an easy TD. Same with the go ball to Gabe up the sideline that was bobbled in the air. No QB hits them all, but the Shakir one should’ve been a layup. Oh and the John Brown INT was a curious throw. Brown had nothing but green grass in the direction he was running but Allen threw it towards the sideline and he got mixed up. For those who say that INT wasn’t on Allen, listen to McD’s presser, he disagrees.
-
Josh has a combined 32 INTs and fumbles on the year (including playoffs) most in the NFL. He always says “I’ve gotta do a better job protecting the ball,” but then the game starts and well… The offense often feels like it has ADHD and can’t have that surgical focus for an entire 60 mins. How much more dangerous would the Bills be if they seldom turned the ball over? Hopefully those gaffes won’t be our undoing. Beane did say the playoffs are often a microcosm of the season, exposing what ails the team the most.
-
Well, I said before it was effective in getting sacks (7), turnovers (3), and a defensive TD. The Bills don’t score 34 if the opposing offense can sustain drives and we know the Chiefs can. If you tell Spags he can get the sacks and turnovers Miami produced I guarantee he’d take them. You can play a boom or bust defense if your offense is a threat every time they touch the ball.
-
Well, don’t lose perspective. If you told the blitz happy Chiefs they could get 7 sacks, 3 turnovers, and a TD on defense if they modeled the scheme Miami played, they’d take it in a heartbeat. As we know the KC offense is nothing like the Skylar led Dolphins that couldn’t sustain a drive, so there’s no way the Bills would have time to score 34 against that team.
