Wait WHAT? MLBs should be judged on the ranking of the defense they’re in? Since when does a defense’s ranking depend on the quality of its middle backer, literally the least important position in a defense? Good coverage MLBs don’t get to make many INTs? This is mind-boggling. You’re saying Edmunds’ lack of INTs is a result of his reputation for being such a ballhawk? Now I’ve heard it all. Edmunds would’ve been better off in a MORE instinctive position? The guy’s biggest problem is his LACK of instincts. Even when the Bills had him blitz he was epically unproductive. These are some really odd takes.

I did like watching him in college and thought he had a chance to make it.

I just can’t get too excited either way about this. It happens. At least they went for a premium position in Round 1. They hit on Benford. The process is correct just like SF can’t be too ridiculed for missing on Lance and hitting on Purdy. It’s the rest of that draft that really irks me - Cook (no need for that pick in around 2), Benard (can’t play), Shakir (can’t play), Azeria, Tenuta, Spector. Benford salvages it a bit but man - Beane ate dirt in 2022.

Not a lot of tough decisions at WR for Tuesday. Isabella and Shavers and maybe Shorter have played themselves off the roster.

I think this is close to the answer. The Bills are just really, really good at scouting CBs. There are CBs drafted and released by the Bills still playing for other teams (Wildgoose, Seymour, etc.). They have trouble scouting other positions like WR and RB and maybe MLB but they know how to evaluate a cornerback like maybe no other franchise. Way too early to call Elam a “bust” but it’s certainly fair to question whether it was a smart pick given his skillset and their ability to find corners late who can fit what they want to do.

It may have been bound to happen but the timing of a completely crap draft couldn’t have been worse - the entire 2022 draft is looking like a throwaway. Benford and maybe Cook can partially salvage it, but considering what the Chiefs pulled from that draft class (and the Jets who took 2 likely All Pros in Round 1 alone), the Bills lost a major opportunity to capitalize on the end of Allen’s cheap window.

Again, am I correct that he’s on a one year deal and can’t be extended?
