Next year. Big changes but nothing radical.
Ray replied to Max Fischer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Be careful what you wish for--remember in GW's first season this was the usual game. -
Very good pick at that time in the draft, but he has regressed. People loved him his first season. He would routinely come up with key catches in traffic. His demise started when he dropped a wide open ball in the season opener when we beat NE 31-0 that opening day in '02. He seems to have confidence problems since. We have more capable people now so I agree he has to drop a few spots on the depth charts and stick to special teams.
-
I aagree he was a poor gameday coach for the most part, but he prepared the team well and they played hard for the guy. He also understood the importance of strong Dlines and Olines. He was a major reason Ted Washington always stayed. When we purged Thurman, Bruce and Andre keep in mind Washington was often mentioned as well but he understood the importance of stopping the run.

I agree! In the trenches is where you win. Do you know the Pats OL salary cap total is about 7M---but you can do that when you have the best QB in the league. But I agree. Ted Washington, Pat Williams---there is your all-star defense. You can fill in with capable LBs and safeties if you have a great defensive line. Also the same with the Oline. Unfortunately our one chance a t a stud OL in the draft has blown up in our face.

wade, aj, and the ghost of john butler

AJ wanted to go with Butler. -
Who'd have thunk that at game 10 our QB
Ray replied to Max Fischer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That is the bright side. JP actually played capable ball. Too bad he had to play flawless because the D was going to give up points every time it was on the field -

Butler left the team in a salary cap mess, but he at least knew how to pick players and coaches who win. Look at us. How many games have the Bills won in 5 years? -
How many losing seasons did Wade have coaching the Bills? Oh yeah, none! And none with the Broncos. Much better than we can say under the TD era. He has brought in good players, but his coaching decisions have been awful. He outsmarted himself, and should have taken the safe choices.

When will Mularkey start crying that the Chargers are running up the score?
-
Wade's defense is having its way with us. Hard to believe many idiots in Buffalo criticized the guy and ran him out of town for not wearing a headset. Well the guy NEVER had a losing record with the team. Seems to me since he left all we've had is losing records except for that stellar 9-7 record last year.

Official Nate Clements is not a shutdown corner
Ray replied to JoeFerguson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dumba### I agree that he is not worth what he wants, but just realize you have to be content with Eric King or Jabari Greer as your other CB. That's the name of the game. Some team will over pay for his services, it probably won't be Buffalo. He will get 8-10M/year as crazy as that sounds. -
Official Nate Clements is not a shutdown corner
Ray replied to JoeFerguson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He is one of the best 10 corners in the league. If you watch other NFL games you see that other corners get beat all the time. Nate is not a shut-down corner, but I can't think of any in the NFL. There are none! Champ Bailey gets beat constantly. Nate is nowhere near as good as he thinks but he is one of the better in the league. -
How about dropping 8 into coverage, flooding the passing lanes, and generating as much rush with 3 as we do blitzing every down!
-
Why are we punting down 4 TDs? So you give them the ball at the 35 other than the 15? The defense can't stop them so who cares the offense needs to keep the ball.
-
Yeah, I thought we'd lose by a couple TDs but I thought they at least would be somewhat in the game.

I think New Orleans has a decent shot
Ray replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Do you think the Bills could beat anyone in the league with 7 of their 11 offensive starters out, Milloy, Clements and Mcgee injured and their best defensive lineman? That's how good their coaching and Tom Brady are! They still will win the AFC East even though they are vulnerable. -
He has brought in good talent. I have no real problem with the players. His decisions on coaching have been poor. No question about it. I liked either Cottrell or Fox originally because I thought they would fit in best with this team/city...etc We'll never know about Cottrell but Fox has certainly turned into a great coach. I know everyone says Marvin Lewis should have been named coach but he didn't want to come here and was very happy to stay at Baltimore over coming to Buffalo.

Wow are we bad--really bad. Granted not as bad as this game, but pretty darn bad!
-
51-3? What will the final score be? This is pathetic. This shows you how bad a team the Bills really are and how far they have to go to be a good team. AJ Smith vs Donahoe--not even close.

Mike Gandy considered for Pro Bowl??
Ray replied to Orton's Arm's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Do you ever think that when you compare some of the Bills players to the rest of the league they actually fair pretty well? People and fans complain constantly about their O-lines in every NFL city. Maybe comparatively Gandy is not that bad. Look at the Jets, Pats and Miami. Who are their starting tackles? -
I hope they tank, but I don't think they will. With Belichick as coach and Brady at QB they will always be competitive for a playoff spot.

TD has done some bad things but...
Ray replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think everyone on this board would be very happy if Mike Williams ended up like a Larry Allen and a dominant LG. I'd take that. His contract goes with him being a top pick. Look at any high pick--they are way overpaid for their value. McKinnie was supposed to be dominant as well. Well, the Vikings fans are saying the same thing about him being a bust. There are plenty of LTs in the NFL better than and making much less money than Robert Gallery a top pick last year. MW has been a good OL. He has not been a top 3 OL but he has been good to very good in the running game. I think guard is actually a great place for him. Having his 360+ lbs in the middle of the line is great to move the big interior DL. -
Big Mike Williams should be #1 on this list!
Ray replied to NavyBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Any college offensive lineman drafted in the first round in the past 4 years is overpaid. It is the nature of the game. Face it, he is a good offensive lineman--not great like we'd want him to be, but good. If you're drafted in the first round you are way overpaid for not playing a single down. How is Phillip Rivers doing by the way? -
Keep Wire on ST and that is it--he can't cover, can't catch and is out of position half the time. Milloy stays. With his one asrm he is still about 50X better than Wire who is just bad as a SS. Nice guy but a bad SS.

Having awful calls against you on critical plays certainly doesn't help! That was an awful call. What happens if the Bills have 1st and 10 at the 25? The game may have turned out differently so you can't say it was not a factor! It was!
