Wow1 I wish Drew could have performed like that for two more years. Great year by him then--too bad that's when our defense and ST sucked.

There are no free agents available to upgrade over Pat. Pat is the best one out there. The others are either re-signing with their teams or franchised. Williams is the BEST DT available in free agancy. His replacement if he leaves is coming from within--Edwards or T Anderson.

For the Nugent fans he was 12/15 but
Ray replied to The Jokeman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
But even if he was 5 for 8 from 40 and beyond he'd be better than Lindell. How many did he kick from beyond 40? Was he 0 for 3 or 9 for 12? Big difference! -
Bills could make the deal sound better than it is 5 years for 25 million but back load the salaries and give him a generous signing bonus 7M. I think he would take that--I can't imagine the Bills not wanting to re-sign him. Especially what Ralph was saying about him after the last game.

I think we all love Pat Williams and want him back----for the right price. 3M/year would be a generous salary and I think quite fair for a 32 yr old DT. Pro Bowler S Adams is making less than that. I really think if you took the agent out of the process this would have been done long ago as Pat really likes Buffalo, wants to stay, doesn't want to move his family as he has been with the Bills for like 8 years. But some other team will pay him 5M/year but it really wont be that much as he will play for 2 more years and be a salary cap casualty. I hope he just tells his agent to strike a deal with the Bills!

Shelton deal NOT immenent, Wahle could be a LT!
Ray replied to JP-era's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just because he starts on another team with an average line at guard won't make him a good LT for us. Shelton is still the best deal you will get for TH. A third round draft choice is like flipping a coin whether the guy will play let alone make the team and contribute anything more than as a special teamer. -
Rather Coles than Moss.

If you took his agent out of the equation I bet he stays for about 3M a year. His agent will find him more than that, but is it worth it to him? I don't know, only Big Pat can answer that. Agents have a way of doing that. You can't begrudge him for taking more money but it depends how much. 2-3 million total over 3-4 years is about 1-1.5 million after taxes, agent fees etc... Is that worth moving the family and away from a team you like to play for and has a real chance to do some great things. If it is like 10-12 million more that is different.

Pat Williams was in a contract year
Ray replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
34-78 is right. Pat played his role great for the Bills. He was absolutely dominant the last game of the season. Stats for DL are very deceiving. Big Ted had very average stats when he played for us, but I think we can all agree he was vital and dominant to our defense then. -
Bills prepared to let Jennings, PWilliams walk
Ray replied to nodnarb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
PW will DEFINITELY get a contract worth at least 3M/year. Some team will overpay for him. The Vikings need a defense and they are 25+ million under the cap. I would pay him 3M/year for his value to the Bills--but not more for a 32 year old DL. 8-9M signing bonus for a 4 year contract you hope he plays 2-3 years for. Make it incentive laden beyond that. Teams will overpay! -

5M/yr for a guy 32 years old next season? We would miss him big, but another team may overpay him. I would pay him 3M/year but 5M??? -
Tom Donahoe Traded a First Ropund Pick For ...
Ray replied to San-O's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Relax and let it go. At the time it was a great move. Also at the time we were 3-13. Your choices for QB were AVP, RJ, Jeff Blake, Drew or a rookie. By the way none of those rookies have done anything. Now does that put it in perspective for you? Drew had a Pro Bowl year, threw for over 4000 yards, made the Bills respectable again and generated excitement again for a team that looked like it was destined for 3-13 for a few seasons. Great move at the time and one that had to be made. This is the right move right now to go with JP. We knew where we could go with Drew (maybe to a playoff game but not further). Let's quit whining--it was the right move at the time!!! -
I think he is going to realize he may very well need to be a backup. Either that or retire.

That is good news for us!

(OT) (LAMP) New Wegmans in Fairfax, VA
Ray replied to Richmond_Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It amazes me as well how average grocery stores are even around big cities. I wish I lived in DC when a Wegmans finally arrived in the area. Boston could really use one. Luckily I'm in Rochester and Buffalo about 10X per year so I get to go to the Wegmans Superstores--you're right, they are unbelieveable! -
I think TD overall has done a very good job in Buffalo, especially given what he inherited. His one big mistake was GW, but one other big one was skimping on kickers. I remember him saying you could get a kicker plenty of places and easy to replace. Well, as we have learned quite well--you cannot get a reliable kicker many places and they are actually quite difficult to find. A good kicker can win or lose a few games each year for you. How much more competitive would the Bills have been with a kicker who made FGs consistently from over 40 yards--especially with the limited red zone offense we had. There were plenty of games over the past couple years the Bills would have been ahead or tied going into the 4th quarter had their kicker been reliable. Vinatieri wins 2-3 games a year (including 2 SBs) over the past few years. Also a playoff game in horrendous conditions.
-
I would love if we got him. I just don't see NE letting him go. He is THE most clutch kicker ever to play the game. AD is right--that snow bowl kick was one of the best kicks if not the best FG of all time. He kicks well in bad weather which is key playing in the AFC East.

Where does all the money go???? Medicaid is a huge drain on the county and state. Best prescription plan in the state. I did my residency there and we always would be amazed at all the benefits they received and it is the best prescription plan in the state. They have to rein in the costs of medicaid. If they did that they would not have to nickel and dime all the parks etc... I miss Buffalo and think it is a great area, but reading and hearing all of this makes me wonder about ever moving back. How come states with equally as bad climate etc(all of New England, Ohio, all of the midwest) tax half as much and don't have nearly all the problems of NYS--simply amazing,....and sad.

A 31 year old can have a stroke for a multitude of reasons. Most likely in his case would be a traumatic dissection of an artery or an aneurysm.

They could use just a little more cowbell!

House passes class-action tort reform

Does this mean I won't hit the jackpot by suing Peter Pan PB for almost dying when I has a peanut allergy? -
I live in Boston. The Pats have about 10,000 less seats than the Ralph. They also have about 4 million more people to draw from. The stadium is actually closer to Providence than Boston. It's analogous to the Bills playing in Batavia. The Pats can draw from Boston's 4+million (counting the suburbs, Cambridge etc), Providence, Worcester, Hartford, all of New Hampshire, Southern Maine, and the rest of Eastern CT. All to fill 65K seats. Shrink the Ralph to about 20K seats and it would be a comparable situation. The Bills do quite well for a city and stadium its size and for a city with a depressed economy.

Raise taxes in Erie County and drive the rest of the businesses away. It is already one of if not the MOST taxed county in the country. You would think that Buffalo would be the most clean, crime free, and best place to live by the amount of taxes you pay. Raise the sales tax to 9.25%!!! Okay go buy a $30K car and pay close to 3G in sales taxes or go to another county and save a few hundred dollars. The tax rates are punative already.

TD has assembled a lousy team and lousy defense. Milloy, Adams, Williams, Spikes, Fletcher all suck. Moulds, McGahee, Evans are lousy as well. How come we are the only team in the NFL to have a different QB every few years. I mean the NFL is full of teams with McNabb and Brady as their starters. Also, why would TD get Bledsoe in '02 when we could have just kept that awesome QB we had when we went 3-13. Yes our QB options were Bledsoe, RJ, a rookie (and none of them from that class have done anything), or Jeff Blake. The obvious choice was certainly not Bledsoe.

Here Is What I Fail To Understand.....
Ray replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am very worried about JP as well. He could absolutely stink--like against the Pats this year. But we know where DB gets us. Although I still think DB would have given us the best chance for the playoffs this upcoming year. We just would not have beaten the Steelers or the Pats. I think that is where the decision was made. DB might get us to the 1st round but really no further. Face it, DB played well enough the last 8 games to get us to the playoffs. However, he will not do well against the teams with a great defense--I think that is where the decision was made.
