  1. IIRC, the argument against that, is that a defender knowing he's going to get beat and is close enough to whack the receiver will do so...the idea being that its' better to give up 10 yards and a 1st down than a potential long, possibly td scoring play.
  2. Not enough room at the inn... The difference between Paul Brown, and his son Mike, is breathtaking...
  3. Wasn't that the game where Houshmanzedeh barked at Ocho Dinko for his short-arming open passes? Anyone yearning for #85 ought to watch the replay...
  4. That would be very respectable. Speaking for myself, I'd be hard-pressed not to have taken one of those 1st round OLs. But whether or not they painted themselves into a corner (no pun intended), IMO the need for a WR was there. I don't have much of an opinion on Hardy - about the only wr's I pay much attention to are the ones that play for these Ohio River Candy Stripers, and the local college teams, UC, OSU, Louisville, and KY. But the scouting reports, and posters here who have seen him play extensively, said good things.
  5. Was that when Bob globally warmed Hillary?
  6. Eh. I took a business flight from Pgh to Phoenix years ago, The rear door was ajar and whistling like crazy. The crank handle wouldn't close it - something was bugging up. The Captain came back, inspected it, then went into the commode and came back with a mess of soaked toilet paper, which he proceeded to stuff into the door cracks. It got immediately sucked into place, and that was the end of the problem. A perfect solution to the happenstance. Several years before, I was on a turboprop going from Latrobe, PA to the Pgh airport in late December. Terrible weather. Cumberland Airlines IRRC, affiliated with Allegheny that ended up being named US Air. They were coming from some point east, and stopped for me, the only passenger. As we approached Pgh, the Captain shouted back and asked me if I could swim, because they were running out of fuel fighting the westerly winds and the Ohio River would be the best option if the tanks ran dry. Sure I said...I can swim! Trust yer Captain!
  7. IIRC, slashed the guy ear-to ear because he was short of the agreed price. Sweet kid who got to grow up and murder somebody thanks to taxpayer cash...society failed her, eh?
  8. Nice picture. The A.B.A ought to adopt it for their official logo.
  9. I hope you get to meet Rose someday. It's a memorable experience that will make you think about the uncanny persistence and durability of the common cockroach. Not to malign cockroaches, at least in literature. I know you are of the bent (towards literature, not cockroaches ), so find some of the works of the '20's social commentator, Don Marquis, and his pals Archy the cockroach, Mehitabel the cat, and Warty Bliggins the toad. You are in for a great treat. Marquis' commentary, writing is wry, hilarious, biting, and true...and still applies.
  10. There was a huge push during the Clinton Administration for natural gas fueled turbine power generation facilities. It is clean, but costly. This redounded favorably to the three big players in the business...ABB in Sweden, Rolls Royce in England and GE, based in Lynn, MA. And GE has a powerful friend in Sen. Teddy Kennedy. See also his roadblocks and delays in defending GE from forking over big $$$ for the removal of their decades of transformer manufacturing and the PCB oil that leaked into the Hudson River. http://www.nrdc.org/water/pollution/hhudson.asp
  11. No, not at all...I'm saying that your odds of losing are no less that 20 to 1. And there are few horse races that put 20 of tomorrow's gluepots in the starting gate. I'm not aware of any lottery game that gives you a 1 and 20 chance to at least recover your initial bet.
  12. Thank you for lobbing me a softball... There is a strip of roadway that goes by the Cincy ballparks that is named "Pete Rose Way". A number of us locals refer to it...as the "Cooperstown Bypass". BTW - I heard through the grapevine here that Mr. Personality got blown in during Grand Jury proceedings by bookies who he told to shut up because he was a big shot and they would have to wait for their dough until he was da*n well ready to settle up. I met him once, in one of his loyalist gin mills, in Addyston, OH on Rt 50 along the Ohio River west of Cincy. You could slam a 2x4 through his skull and he still wouldn't get it...
  13. Think back..way back...to your teenage years...
  14. Yep...same to whatever degree, for shale and oil sand extraction, and coal gassification. Unfortunately, our western low-sulfur coal reserves were declared off-limits in payment to James Riady and his Indonesian company, the Lippo Group, to protect the prices of its' low-sulfur coal in exchange for campaign contributions to the Clinton camp. Those Democratic Senators that obfuscated the corruption hearings, and the Republican Senators that laid down and didn't raise h*ll were a slap to our Constitution they claim to respect and follow, IMO.
  15. Does it contain oil?
  16. Well then - give us details as to why it's not cost effective.
  17. BS. GG and me have crossed swords in the past. However, his posts are well-thought out and stated, and they always get my full consideration. Disagree with the man's posts, if you like, but please stop this falling back with chronic belittlement when you can't argue your case...
  18. Jeeze, that was a lot of work, BlueFire. No need to worry - Hillary or Osama will solve this energy issue pronto, just like Nancy Pelosi said she would. I seemed to have missed the Dem energy solution - can you find us a link about it, and how it is progressing?
  19. Here ya go, criminey pete. http://newsbusters.org/node/5120 Taxes. And don't forget about the Feds holding up the States for return of that tax money extracted from your hide for road building and maintenance unless they submit to whatever non-Constitutional whim Congress wants to keep their fancy as*ses in office. Most American voters are thicker than the elk sh*t lying on the ANWAR ice and tundra...
  20. Nice. That puts them at the top of the rankings among the other 11 clubs who were 8 - 8 or 7 - 9 and missed the playoffs last season.
  21. Not needed. Flip a penny to halve the field, flip again to get five, flip again and arbitrarily eliminate one, then flip twice more to winnow down to one. Or go to a harness track and put your dough on the season's favorite driver. Horse betting beats any State lottery. You have a better chance at recovering your $$$ even with a 20 horse race. Most aren't. You can even win.
  22. He did - in a roundabout way - perform a public service. The young gal that accused him of raping her got charged and convicted of false charges. While she was in the clink, the Cincy police dug a little deeper and got evidence that she murdered one of her johns. She got convicted and sent up for life.
