  1. The wisdom of the Electoral College is that it gives all the States, and their populations a say. It's been discussed endlessly - without it, the Presidential election would be decided by the selfish interests of the residents of large cities, large populations. And then no candidate would not ever have to broaden his views to accommodate the view of the Americans in the smaller towns, the rural Americans and so on. They would be ignored. The President would be elected by the residents of the large-population States. The Founding Fathers penned the Electoral College into the Constitution as a check&balance, to guard against a tyranny of the majority. There was a deadlock - the Hayes - Tilden contest of 1876. The deadlock was ended with the election of the Republican, Rutherford Hayes...the compromise the Democrats extracted was the cessation of Reconstruction, and then began the implementation of the Jim Crow laws throughout the South.
  2. I know you meant 3rd trimester. It's my understanding that he voted "present", repeatedly for an Illinois bill, that mandated that a fetus that survived an abortion, was to be placed on a table, given no care whatsoever, and allowed to die. http://mediamatters.org/items/200712140004
  3. That, or the fact that unlike the competition, they pay out pensions and health care money to millions of former workers and their families, and have to on a daily basis deal with union bullsh*t...
  4. How come I haven't heard the usual Dem rant against the unfairness of the Electoral College system this year? Did I miss it? Or did it get thrown in the same trash heap as "disenfranchisement" ?
  5. Eh - less than most. Here's the team-by-team of players on IR: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/injuries
  6. http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archiv...t_polls_wil.php No surprise. Liberals like to run their mouths, Conservatives more likely to say "Bug off...who I voted for is my own business".
  7. Thank you, Captain Obvious.
  8. Yep. I didn't like it when some folks labeled Mularkey as a quitter when he left the Bills. They stripped his staff - he just saw the handwriting on the wall and left with his honor intact.
  9. Plenty of bargains out there, these days. If this is a long-term keeper, consider an extended warranty. For under 2 grand, you can get the top, bumper-to bumper warranty for 7 years/100k or the like. There are multitudes of plans. The top level warranties cover everything except the usual wear items, so anything that goes wrong - little or no repair cost. I'm talking about factory warranties, not those 3rd party ones. If you're interested, decide on the coverage and hit the internet. Dealers all over the nation compete on price for these things...you don't have to purchase from your dealer. But odds are they'll match whatever low price you come up with.
  10. Mularkey seems to be doing OK as ATL's OC. They're 5 -3, and their offensive numbers are decent with rookie Ryan at QB. Certainly aided by Michael Turner's fine season so far.
  11. I remember when pols used to hand out useful stuff - rulers, pens and pencils, yardsticks, matches, pot holders and the like. Now its bumper stickers, which I never used (and certainly not on today's painted bumper covers if I were so inclined). And those cheesy plastic film signs over wire - can't even salvage a piece of cardbord and a decent wooden stake.
  12. Happy B'Day, Gents !
  13. NYJ had 8 qb hits on TE. BUF had but 1 on Favre. http://www.nfl.com/liveupdate/gamecenter/2...UF_Gamebook.pdf
  14. They were in a tough spot. But 5 of Anderson's tds were in a week 2, 51 - 45 shoot-out with CIN. In a must-win game in week #16 at CIN, he choked, tossing 4 ints.
  15. Maybe not. AFC West to date doesn't show any wild card possibles yet. AFC North has PGH looking to win the div. crown, but that conference still has numerous games against the hot NFC East. My guess is that BAL doesn't make the WC cut. TEN has a hold on the AFC South lead...last evening's IND defeat of NE* muddles things.
  16. Er...hate to be inconvenient... http://www.snopes.com/politics/war/wmdquotes.asp
  17. Unlike a Democratic Congressman enjoying a page, a President (how obscene, how disrespectful of the Nation) getting head in the Oval Office, or some such...
  18. Political conventions, car vandalism, union strikers, college shout-downs, the Wellstone funeral, etc. C'mon, 99. I was being realistic. Surely you can't say that GOP supporters have anywhere near the record of violence, verbal hatred as Democrats? It goes back a long, long time, and still continues.
  19. For quite a while, the rules favor the pass game. Seems like 3, 4 wide-outs is half the offensive formations these days. The Bills aren't the only club with low rush numbers. My feeling is that it's pretty much league-wide. Dunno...
  20. I'll assume your Rove comment was a tongue-in-cheek. It certainly was childish.
  21. How did they attain such powers? Divine intervention?
  22. Sure. Violence by Democrats is as American as apple pie. Makes for great TV. Republicans are as dull as it gets.
  23. DID the Bills fake a punt on their own 24? Give me an answer, people!!!
