  1. 19 plays, 92 yards. Ugh.....
  2. It's not pretty...roughly 34 minutes to 22.
  3. Thanks for the thoughtful answer, Dean. This channel "shifting" has been also happening here in the SW Ohio area...T-W. The F.C.C. sent letters (fwiw) to cable companies and to Verizon about this: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27538936/ I think your "roll-your-own" idea has good merit. I can't see it being a technical hardship for the companies; in T-W's so-called digital variety tier here, you can already purchase individual channels.
  4. Sounds like the big-city youth summer employment programs that were in vogue a few years back. They were ghost towns here in Cincy, until they started to dry up and the yapping mouths saw some political hay to be made. There has been publicity here for free kid food during the summer the last 2 years. Before, that, the lack of participants was irksom - hawking free federal food having a nice profit cut for school systems. Anybody remember C.E.T.A.?
  5. Your link works now. Good write, SATM. Spelling, syntax, usage, case agreement - well done. Good, topical subject, nicely expressed.
  6. I have a 3 dollar under-sink plastic trash can that has ears on it that allow for use of these bags for my wet garbage. I also use them to capture my metal can recyclables that I dump into my recycle bin (I pay 35 bucks per year for that recycling service). I also use the bags to load up with shoveled-out soiled cat litter. I keep them in my car to clean up trash and dump my ashtray into. And if you are a youngster, partying at night, on the weekends, they are excellent vomit receptacles. Hey - it happens!
  7. Yes, there's something said for pushing the mute if there is a radio broadcast available. At least you won't have to listen to the 60-year-old guy with dyed hair and the nice big house with the spiffy car in the driveway, go and wax on for 20 seconds about his incipient hard-on, trotting upstairs with his 32 year-old 2nd wife who is leaving virtual puddles on the carpet on the way up, or the noises from the my-discount-beer-is-best-of-all booty shakers. Or the Shh! Shh! Lie-to-the-Boss chain restaurant spots, or how tough trucks really, really are are, or how Only You Can Save Your Family with This...yes, This...Phone...Plan. But there is risk. Serious risk. You may not be Saved By Zero.
  8. JMO - the value of whole lot of #1 round picks is the result of a manufactured media event by agents and fans alike.
  9. I say raise the voting age to 30.
  10. Give a break and pay more attention to him now. He does the "B" grade games - so he's done numerous CIN games. He's become good at commenting on the way the game is developing, what this or that club might do to change their fortunes in the game at hand. No kidding...I though he was a Class A clown when he started out. He has a quick eye, sharp on infractions, strategy, and formations.
  11. Wow..those are the big channels... You've been in the biz. The NFL wants the larger exposure on basic cable to sell their advertising deals at higher prices, and has "energized" sports fans and somehow has successfully developed an Apologist Cadre to pimp for their bottom $$$ line. Mr. Spock: "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.". Mr. Spock the NFL fan "The needs of the few outweigh the needs of the many...and I want the many to pay for my rocks! ". How many times does it have to be said? The cable biz has no problem with a sports tier offering - for those that want to dig into their own wallet to see every fart, burp, game, 12 month's worth of blather, whatever, that the exclusive Gang of 32 can hawk one's way. Dean - you've given insight on the LIM - cable - WIBV Ch. 4 thing. Much appreciated. If your contention is that NFLN on basic cable is even close to a win-win situation for both the Gang and the cable outfits, it would have been a fait accompli some time ago. The NFL owners have a problem - they face an equally canny entity who also sees the bottom line. Most everybody can buy dish service if they choose. I see no justification in sticking all cable subscribers with increased charges for the benefit of a minority. A Sports Tier for folks that want NLFN has always been on the table, AFAIK.
  12. NYC tax increases. http://www.fiscalpolicy.org/critique.pdf
  13. Congress has "oversight" over the SEC. You don't seem to realize what branch of government calls the shots...
  14. Yeah. Being within striking distance going into the 4th quarter in those games, being 5 and 3 at their halfway mark, being 6th out of 16 in overall AFC standings, is real step backwards...
  15. It's that old quantity vs. quality conundrum...
  16. And if the NFL agreed to let NFLN be aired on a sports tier on cable, for those that want it, instead of sticking each and every subscriber with increased cost - there are people who don't give a flying F about NFL football - it would be there.
  17. How? Two years ago, unemployment was at an historic low IIRC. The Dow was booming. Do you think Bush, Clinton, any President just waves his arm and the world-wide economy comes up roses? The world-wide screaming demand for petroleum just stops? If they had such power, they would...all of them...do so. Take a hard look at the 535 tin gods that collectively go by the name of "Congress"... Poor Obama. He, his Administration is going to go nuts dealing with the numerous self-aggrandizing, self-serving whack jobs that populate a meaningful share of his majority.
  18. I thought him terrible his first year, but IMO he's improved a lot, and I've come to appreciate Rich Gannon's comments now.
  19. That's a quotable keeper !
  20. Jumpin' Jim Jefford. Conveniently forgotten.
  21. That's Italy, my friend! In one of Tom Clancy's novels, a KBG character remarked that "Italy has the most profoundly disorganized society on the planet. That's its' great charm.".
  22. LB - it can come and go. Mine started last year with an occasionally painful left heel. It eventually afflicted both heels and soles. I have a bit of it returning recently, so I've started using my stretch boot device again..1/2 hour per foot per day. It holds your foot at an angle that stretches the muscle, tendons, etc. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/plantar-fasciitis/DS00508
