We got cute with EJ and moved down, got our man and Kiko pick for free. There is no way they would take Carr at 4. Plenty of trade down partners in that scenario. I would give up our 2nd round pick to get Watkins.

Jake Matthews will be the pick.

Russell wilson hit only 19 passes and lynch got 39 yards in the superbowl. It wasnt their O line that won the game for them it was the D front 7. I still hope we go O-line heavy in this draft though. I would only move up for Watkins or Clowney. If Manziel falls to us it might give us a trade down opp like last year that got us Kiko for nothing. -
One thing about Schwartz that is surprising is that he hasn't brought in any 'sleeper' type players from Detroit with him in free agency. Usually a coach has a few rising stars in his backpocket. Havent seen anything from Jim yet.

I dont mind the idiot part. Seattle is full of them and they won the ring. But I agree on the overrated part. He simply wasnt that good when he played here.

what concerns me the most here is that I think the OP (my man Kirby Jackson) is really Whaley's cousin and he posted this because he knows that WE KNOW where the talent is out there and he has no idea who to pick in the late rounds. Doug you should be ashamed of yourself. We were counting on you...... I guess I can change my Whitner jersey to Whitlock without too much trouble......

Hates: The Patriots. Kraft, Brady, Billicheat. All of them. Not winning close games that we deserve to win. It happens to all teams, and we sneak out the wins here and there, but we're due for a team that has a knack for winning. Ralph not handling the sale before he died. Seems like a big burden to let his wife handle. All of this bidding and sale stuff could have been taken care of and lined up prior to his death and then executed afterwards. Love: Our new young guys that weren't on the team last year at this time. kiko, goodwin, woods, EJ, robey.... we did great last year getting fast talented guys with good attitudes. draft day. no matter who we pick. i even loved the ed wang pick. I ordered more wangs. i mean wings. the wisdom of the stadium wall

I always thought Buddy Nix was a good football guy. He had 9 picks in 2010 and the only one that made a significant impact was #9 overall CJ Spiller. He would have been better off trading away the other 8 picks for a hot cheerleader (which by the way, we could always use.......) Drafting is one of the most maddening and esoteric things not just in sports, but in the entire world. It's almost as if a track record of success and proven physical talent somehow mean nothing. Gut feel and logic start fighting against each other, and the only certainty is that you are gambling. Sometimes you will win, and sometimes you will lose big. It's like hearing someone claim they know which way interest rates are going to go, or what stock is the best one to buy. My 10 year daughter has exactly the same chance as a stock analyst, just as she has the same chance as you to win in roulette. So the odds of this board will always beat the GM's because we have more players. Last year's draft was very impressive with the trade down move to get a free pick and add Kiko Alonzo to this team. We aren't sure about EJ or Woods yet, but we know about Kiko and so does the rest of the NFL. They already get an A in my book because that was SOMETHING they did that wasn't pure gamble. It was adding a high pick to your team, pulling it out of thin air and hitting a home run with the guy you got for nothing. That's more impressive to me than getting lucky on a guy you think will be a good pro, it's SKEWING the odds in your favor. There's a huge difference there, and what i love about the new regime here. In the end it's still luck. tons of luck. Speaking of which, imagine the massive difference in the NFL today if Andrew Luck would have gone pro his junior year like many had anticipated. He goes to carolina, and Cam Newton goes to Denver or to us. Probably to us. If Denver takes him, Peyton Manning probably goes elsewhere and the domino's fall from there. Denver might have taken Dareus and we take future HOF Von Miller or AJ Green (assuming they stay healthy). I love the draft. Still waiting for the year we take all O-line and QB's. Then I get my Bills tattoo.

Ej's main injury was that hit as he ran out of bounds. Not related to LG as far as I remember, although he was scrambling which could have been due to a line breakdown. Maybe not. I re-watch all of the plays on DVR, and remember how glaring our lack of LG play was (both brown and legursky) where we simply had no pocket for Thad or EJ despite Glenn and Wood doing their job. Most times it was 2 seconds and they were unable to set their feet so the throws were suffering and the plays were broken and even with Freddy in there chipping it was simply awful. It was strange that so many people on the board were saying it was good we didn't re sign levitre and that our running game was OK so it was better to save the money. It was like they weren't watching the games or something. Go watch either Jets game and see how Richardson and Wilkerson just steamroll us up the middle. Embarrassing. We can't go through that again.

I agree its unlikely that a rook would ever come in and win the LT job, Glenn will be even better this year if he stays healthy. I still take a tackle high in this draft though, start him at RT. Most importantly WE NEED A LEFT GUARD PEOPLE. Forget the free agency fodder we picked up, last year it was a turnstile and it needs to get fixed asap. The best offensive weapons and gameplanning in the world mean nothing if your line has holes. We are in for another 50 sack season and injured qb's if our LG is not adequate.

Hmmmm. I was thinking we'd get an undrafted rookie or two in camp and see if they pan out this year and then draft one next year when we know whats happening with CJ. If we dont extend him we might burn a high pick on a runner. Not sure why but I feel like we're going to let CJ walk when his contract is up. I love the guy but......

O line all the way. I want two O line NFL starters for this team in the first 3 tounds. One tackle one guard. Mike williams and stevie johnson on the same team probably means trouble so i dont mind seeing them grab evans first, but the O line needs serious help and it really didnt get any in free agency.

Its his responsibilty to deliver a competent GM
-
Meh. Nice person by all accounts. Tries hard, loves the Bills. I have trouble with him when he gets into his corporate speak and his secrecy crap on stuff that really doesn't belong to be kept from the public considering how many millions of dollars in public funding go to the organization. His interviews are a total waste of time because he's afraid to say anything of substance. Ranging from questions like "Who has the final say on who we draft or what deals we make on draft day" to his exaggerated claims of what the Toronto series did for Buffalo fans, he always seems to have that Tom Donahoe politician-like elusiveness that rubs me the wrong way. If they financed their own stadium that's one thing, but the second you start taking large taxpayer subsidies in a time when we're cutting educational programs at an alarming rate, you have a responsibility to be reasonably forthcoming with the public regarding the inner workings of your business. I think a GM's job is to be honest with fans, love your team for the right reasons, and put players and coaches in a position to succeed. And not be a dick (Matt Millen, Belichick) which everybody knows Russ isn't. Not sure I would say a GM is doing a good job unless your team makes a playoff run every 4 or 5 years, though. That's like saying you think a guy is a great sales rep but he's never once met his quota.

Now I LOVE Brandon Spikes. I'm not a man....

I appreciate the support fellas. A guy like Spikes who has an axe to grind with his old team can be the difference in our games against New England. -

Spikes was my MOST loathed guy in the NFL. Not only because of the helmet incident with Fitz, but he's had several plays against us that have made him look like he's doing nothing out there but trying to hurt people. After the helmet to helmet hit on Freddy when he was basically defenseless, he became the consummate NFL villian for me, To make matters worse he's good and he plays for the Patriots. I even remember telling my kids: "that is NOT how you play the game kids. There's a difference between hard nosed and cheap" Sadly, within 5 minutes of learning that he was going to be our starting ILB I was excited and jumping up and down now that we finally have a beast run stuffing LB. "Maybe that helmet thing was just Fitz just being a Harvard baby" I said... "and anyway Freddy can take hits like that in his sleep...." I'm not a man. Not a real one anyway. A man would have stuck to his principles, his disdain for the cheap players should be unwavering no matter what color they wear, even if it's his own team's.. But the truth is, Brandon Spikes has shown me that I'm a waffling, spineless guy who really just hates everyone in the NFL until they become a Buffalo Bill. Does this mean I'd like Pete Carroll or Harbaugh or PacMan Jones if they could help us win? I probably would. I'm getting rid of all the mirrors in my house because I can look at myself anymore. I'm pathetic. -
Good edge rusher for a LB Hughes outplayed him in preseason, won the job and notched 10 sacks for us on limited snaps. Can't say we didn't give Moats a chance. As bad as Buddy's draft was that year, I still consider Moats a good pick despite the way things ended up. He might surprise them down in Pitt. Good luck Arthur !

Why draft a LOT to play ROT?

me too. gotta have a killer O-line or we go nowhere. -
Ryan Fitzpatrick is a Houston Texan
Webster Guy replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good for Fitz. Probably a little tough on his kids moving so often but he'll do fine in Houston. Perfect backup for a rook QB to help him learn the ropes. Fitz will get you 200 yds a game, mid 70's passer rating, one or two INT's and is a helluva tough scrambler when he needs to. -
Hey maybe we should only have stars at EVERY position !!! Genius. Three back to back 1000 yard seasons with below average qb's must mean you're only a number two or three receiver. We have a great running game, who's our 'number one' there?
-
The best thing for our team right now is to have a dominant O-line. For EJ, for the runners, to give our defense a rest, to score points and win games. Consider teams like the Jets who we play twice a year that have a very strong pair of DT's in Richardson and Wilkerson. (Richardson is already the best in the league after one year) Our guards are both going to be helping Eric Wood all game handling those two, which leaves our tackles all alone on both sides. Look at what Miami just did with getting Houston DT Earl Mitchell to play alongside Starks and Cameron Wake. If our tackles can't play well, that means a TE or Freddy or someone will have to help out blocking which means less effective offensive weapons. Picking a versatile stud tackle in the top ten makes a ton of sense to me. It's insurance if Glenn gets hurt, and in order to run the ball in this league consistently you need to have a beast at right tackle. There are many examples of high draft picks playing RT and staying there permanently because teams see what an impact they can have (San Diego, San Fran etc) It occurs to me that the teams with great O lines always seem to go far into the post season, but not all teams with great skill players do. This game is about the trenches and it always has been, always will be. We had 3 D lineman in the pro bowl this year, lets give our O line the highest priority in this draft and get setup for years to come.

By reinventing you mean fiielding a relatively weak defense every year, drafting like crap and relying on your HOF qb to bail you out.
-
He's talking about free agent pickups. Last year we got two LB's in free agency that were game changers for us and people were saying the same things they're saying here about Rivers when we signed Lawson and Hughes. This is like bitching about a draft pick-- until you see him play on your team in your system with your personnel and coaches, all griping is meaningless. We could have underpaid for all three guys we got today.
