As in your earlier posts about Joe Brady, you have a tendency to use vague language and then change the meaning to suit the moment. It takes the form of "that's not what I meant."

Who do we want, who do we need as our next OC/DC?
Sierra Foothills replied to Sierra Foothills's topic in The Stadium Wall
That may or may not be the case but let's just say that it is the case. Now we can move onto the question of whether McDermott can change his stripes when faced with the fallout of clear and public offensive failure... 1) He's not stupid 2) He probably cares to preserve his job Do people really think he'll stick to his guns in this scenario? -
And even more elementary than that, you should understand the difference between the meaning of the words, "would" and "could." Also, you should understand the importance of owning what you say instead of weaseling out of it through equivocation and rationalization.

I think most of us would settle for standard, regular chess. And just in time for the season! -

Out of curiosity, what makes you say that? I know of no hotels in Collins... or even North Collins though I agree that's a helluva long way to walk. -

Davis Matthew Webb (born January 22, 1995) is an American professional football coach and former quarterback who is the Offensive Pass Game Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL). He played his first three seasons of college football for the Texas Tech Red Raiders and then the California Golden Bears, before being selected by the New York Giants in the third round of the 2017 NFL draft. In his seven seasons in the NFL, he was a member of all three franchises representing cities in New York, spending the most time with the Buffalo Bills. On February 23, 2023, Webb was hired by the Denver Broncos as their quarterbacks coach under head coach Sean Payton. Webb had expressed interest in transitioning to coaching duties, having been previously asked by the Bills to be their quarterbacks coach. Prior to the 2025 season, Webb was promoted to the position of offensive pass game coordinator following the departure of John Morton to the Detroit Lions. He retained his position as the quarterbacks coach, holding both roles simultaneously. Here's the guy who should be near the top of the list... he and Alex Tanney. And who thinks that these guys wouldn't jump at the chance to coach Josh Allen? -
Thank you. No. You were unequivocal about it.

And here comes the obligatory "two things can be equally true" post (probably for the 10th time today). You're welcome! -

That's an interesting suggestion. Are you aware of the heavy criticism of LaFleur's offense currently taking place in Green Bay? I'm not sure it's justified because they've had great offenses in the past. Also it's a legit question of whether guys like LaFleur or (below) McDaniel or Stefanski would accept a coordinator position. Head Coaching salaries are guaranteed so they do have the option of smelling the roses for a season or two as they mull their options. Further, these 3 might get HC offers without having to rehab their reputations... it's hard to say. It's also hard to say if they're such football junkies that they'd rather coach than sit at home... maybe something like a "Senior Offensive Assistant" or "Assistant Head Coach for Offense" position. McDaniels is a twice failed Head Coach and he failed hard... 20-33 (.377). No way the team sell him as a Head Coach and he wouldn't make a lateral move over to Orchard Park unless the money was ridiculous. Schwartz strikes me as the kind of guy who still harbors HC aspirations. If Stefanski is gone after this season and the Browns pass over Schwartz, he could possibly be amenable to a DC position here although (and here's the big thing) McDermott would have to check his ego (insecurity?) and defensive philosophy at the door in order for it to work. -

You get a gold star and this is what I was hoping for. Realistically established coordinators don't make lateral moves unless they're on the hot seat... and if they're on the hot seat they're generally not considered prime candidates. So really for the most part, we're looking at those position coaches who are flying a bit under the radar of the average fan. Great mention. -

There was definitely tension between the two and the belief is that Daboll left at "just the right time." Maybe they could patch things up. They did lose Schoen and Gray and they also lost Dan Morgan which I think was a big loss. That said I'm really liking the looks of the 2025 draft aside from not drafting a viable wide receiver prospect. With regard to personnel, I think the biggest mistake the organization has made is under-prioritizing wide receiver. Other than that, the roster is as solid and has as few holes as most teams... IMO. Realistically that's our best hope, I believe. And if it gets us to where we want to go, who cares? To me this isn't personal... I don't hate McDermott, I just don't ultimately believe in him so maybe if there are better people around him... -

There are a lot of Bills fans who believe as you guys believe, that McBeane won't change. But what if the Bills are eliminated in the Wild Card Round? Faced with a fan and media mutiny, that might change... no? I think McDermott has tried to change though I don't know what degree of change he's actually capable of. For instance, would McDermott be capable of approaching Brian Daboll this offseason and saying, "Hey it didn't work out the first time as well as it could have. I need you and you need me. Let's see if we can lay down some ground rules and try this again." Awaiting the one-word answer... 😆 I love the idea of these guys because I believe the organization lacks enough guys like Fitz and Kyle who aren't afraid to speak up when things need to be said. But the Bills are a very conservative organization, top to bottom. I don't think it's realistic. -

Obviously this would be daring and unconventional... hiring two men who have not yet coached at the NFL level... it reminds me a bit of when the late Jim Irsay hired the recently retired player, Jeff Saturday as the Colts interim Head Coach. As for Fitz, he's now a prominent media star and it would be years in the coaching grind before he could make anywhere as much money as he already does, making the easy money on national broadcasts. Regarding Kyle, I see where he was hired this year at his alma mater, LSU as their Defensive Line Coach. Maybe he's another year or two away from being a viable candidate. -

We can get Dorsey back here to smash some clipboards! Seriously though, that's maybe what this team needs is some creative tension and not just disciples following orders. Does this coaching staff argue and debate or is it just top down directives? I wish I knew. -
It's like watching an NBA team which can only attack in the low post and doesn't have the ability to spread the floor by shooting from the outside... the defense can pack the paint.

As most of you accept, Pegula will not likely terminate McBeane any time soon, if ever. These are the two individuals responsible for ending the 17 year playoff drought and turning the program into a near-model franchise with multiple and consecutive divisional titles. In addition the team is opening a new stadium next year and stability and proven track record are infinitely more important than the unknown quantity and uncertainty of a new administration. Moreover, Pegula enjoys a strong relationship with McBeane and works with them on what seems like a daily basis... he might even view them as the sons that he never had or at least, he might feel that he is a mentor to the younger men. So realistically, the only hope for those wishing that we can finally get over the hump and win a Super Bowl are based on who the Bills would hire as OC and DC to move on from the underwhelming performances of Brady and Babich. I think back to Buddy Ryan's defense making Mike Ditka a "Super Bowl-winning coach" and hope that improvement at the Coordinator level could pull us over the finish line in a similar way. Who will realistically be available for the Bills to recruit into what are really plumb jobs? What are the ascending programs? Whose coaching tree can the Bills harvest from? Who are the next hot coordinator prospects? Go Bills!

I agree with your points but I would add that these things aren't binary (I know...). There are QBs (Manning, Rodgers... Brady?) that can disregard their OCs and QBs that wouldn't dare. Then there's probably a healthy medium somewhere between those extremes and we don't know where Josh is on that range. Because we don't know, we can't say if it would be better if he took more ownership of the offense.

You're right. The Patriots trajectory is looking good but they haven't actually accomplished much yet. "December football" and the playoffs are the only real test. Well the above two posts are it in a nutshell. Is this team in this current situation able to bounce back as they have in the past or are things more dire than they've been since the beginning of the McBeane administration? What in the actual f is that? 🤣 We're all irrational, excitement or not. We're Bills fans. He's guaranteed to play, 50% of the time. It depends on if the passing game shows signs of meaningful and permanent improvement. In many respects the victory over KC was a liar. So you admit it then! Seriously, I disagree with the regime "settling for mediocrity." I'm not even in WNY anymore but I feel like they're feeling more heat right now than ever before... am I wrong? If that's the case they're looking for answers. The question is whether they'll find them but I'm certain they're trying. McBeane's work ethic and diligence have never been questioned. And Marv had the credibility and respect of the entire organization to right the ship and command the crew. With all of those alphas, you need strong leadership. Regarding this edition of the Bills, I don't know how many alphas they have which to me requires that the Head Coach is the alpha. Unfortunately the manifestation of him on the playing field is Terrel Bernard. Unless the Head Coach who appears threatened by coordinators who don't have a subordinate mindset is secure enough to give him another chance... for the good of both men's careers. -

I think it was on Amherst St in Black Rock but there used to be a dive bar called "The Pistol Dawn Tavern." 😊 There... now you've gone and done it... I hope your interest goes beyond the scripted opening drive. 🙂 Mayfield is the ultimate gamer... he plays hard always. Recall his scramble in Fayetteville, Arkansas when the cop crushed him against that concrete retaining wall... Baker never stopped fighting on that play. The problems of this team will not be solved if we lose to a banged up Tampa team just sayin -

I don't believe that. Unless I'm mistaken I'm pretty sure the Bills haven't thrown on 1st down this year. For the record, Josh's hand size is 10.125 inches whereas Baker's is 9.25 inches... if anyone cares. Not sure I agree. As others in this topic have pointed out, after the Houston game would be a logical time to make coaching changes because they'd have a long week to prepare for the next game. And I'll repeat something I've pointed out a few times now... Ken Dorsey was fired on November 14, 2023. Today is the 15th so there is precedent. You're right... I'll go back and delete my posts! 😀
