Free Agent Lull.... are we done minus bit players or more to come?
DapperCam replied to JP51's topic in The Stadium Wall
Hamlin literally looks like he's running in mud. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. -

We’ll see if Cole Bishop starts. I hope he does, but the combo of Rapp/Hamlin was slow as molasses. Cam Lewis isn’t a starter. Elam wasn’t a starter. Benford ran a 4.53 which is slow for a boundary CB. Taron Johnson ran a 4.5 which is slow for a boundary CB (which is why he’s in the slot). If we can have Bishop at SS, Forrest at FS, and we can find a CB2 with wheels then we’ll have some decent speed in the secondary. -

Ability isn’t determined by draft round, but speed usually is. The fastest guys with ability get taken high (they don’t all work out). We have one of the slowest secondaries around. -

I think Dane Jackson was that veteran CB. -
Matt Milano agrees to pay cut, 2025 becomes final year of his deal
DapperCam replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall
I see two possibilities: - The Bills told Milano he will be released if he doesn’t agree to a paycut. He knows he would end up with less money if released so he agreed. - Milano feels like he has a better chance next offseason at one last good deal than two off seasons from now. He swapped a year shorter contract for $3m. He’s feeling healthy and betting on balling out, hoping for one last payday. Probably the first one, but I hope for the second one. -
Different sites have different values, but they all seem to agree he allowed ~120 passer rating when targeted and he wasn’t good in run support either. Especially for a contract year he was very bad. I suspect Father Time has caught up to him. I was exaggerating a little bit, he will eventually sign for a team looking for veteran depth. I really doubt he will be a starting boundary CB this upcoming season though unless the starter is injured.

A couple years ago maybe. Douglas was terrible this past season. He hasn’t been signed and might not even be on a team this season.
-
If the cost to extend Benford now and after the end of next season is approximately the same, it benefits the Bills to have him play this season and prove he can do it again. They risk losing him to UFA, but that’s just how it goes sometimes. We could also franchise tag him at that point.

2 years $21m is still pretty rich for what Palmer has shown. But you always pay a premium in FA, and we had to do something to replace the production of Cooper/Hollins. Hopefully it’s a home run.
-
AFAIK Diggs was saying Allen was great and deserved MVP during the season. I don’t really remember any beef during the season.

Interesting take on the new FA signings by Greg Cosell

This is my concern. What if they are terrible once they stop taking the juice? Who remembers Merriman? -
Hoecht and Ogunjobi 6 game suspension for PEDs
DapperCam replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
My concern is how are these guys gonna look having to play clean? I assume they won’t risk another cycle this offseason. They’ll probably suck! -
I think small LBers can still succeed. Just depends on their ability to get off of blocks and willingness to tackle. Those require skill just as much as size IMO. I guess you could say undersized LBers are more injury prone. His height/weight are identical to Milano. I wouldn’t say his injuries were related to size (getting leg caught up in a pile and torn bicep).

MAC defensive player of the year, led the nation in tackles, led LBers in tackles for loss and INTs. Consensus first team All American. Somehow he wasn’t a Butkus award finalist, and then gets snubbed by the pros due to perceived lack of athleticism (which doesn’t even seem to be the case).

It was a sham that this guy didn’t get invited to the combine. Hopefully our gain.

Cooper out, Palmer in -> push Miller out, Bosa in -> upgrade A. Johnson out, Ogunjobi in -> upgrade Smoot out, Hoecht in -> upgrade Forrest in -> too soon to tell They are mostly upgrades on who they replace on the roster, but only small upgrades. I don’t think anything that will move the needle a lot. We also have: Douglas out Hollins out Jordan Phillips out Q. Jefferson out Martin out Elam out On paper we might be slightly worse than last year. We still don’t have a 2nd starting boundary CB, we appear to be running it back at safety which was our weakest positional group, and we could have a RB holdout on our hands. But we do have a great offensive line and the reigning MVP.

Hope he goes to the NFC
-
Hope he can figure it out. Seems like he has the talent to be an NFL CB, just couldn't quite put it together with our scheme and coaches.
-
I feel like there are 2 reasons for this: 1. Bishop was pretty bad his rookie season. There is a chance he'll improve, but we need to see it. 2. Bishop is a box safety. That is the role he played in college. We need a free safety. Bishop is a more natural replacement for Rapp than Hamlin.
-
The bolded is what everybody said last offseason. I wouldn’t be so sure. If they don’t bring in real competition and Bishop falters we could be running it back with the same pair of safeties.
-
Our safety play was pretty bad all season. It’s not a mystery why fans were hoping for an upgrade. Was there a worse pair of starting safeties in the league than Rapp-Hamlin? Neither of them would start on most teams. More evidence for that is Hamlin just struck out in FA and is circling back and re-signing probably for near vet minimum.
-
Really hope he doesn’t have to see the field. I suppose he is uniquely qualified for spot duty. One of the strangest moments of last season was when Tua launched his head into Hamlin’s chest, seriously concussing himself.

Kind of sounds like all DTs except for the top 5 or so. That could have easily described Oliver.

Joey Bosa signs with Buffalo. 1 year, $12.6 million
DapperCam replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
People here were whining about not getting elite talent. We can't really afford elite talent without maxing out our cap credit card. This is a move that is a gamble. Bosa has elite upside if he can play healthy. He also might be a swing and a miss, but the cap at one year isn't a terrible gamble. -
RB Ty Johnson Re-Signed - 2 Year Deal
DapperCam replied to BillsFanForever19's topic in The Stadium Wall
Just sayin’ if Allen’s desperation heave at the end of the AFCCG was to Ty Johnson instead of Kincaid, then we’re probably playing in the SB.
